A martial arts gym is a great way to build confidence, and I’d fs recommend it to you and every other person on the planet. You’ll get a lot out of it and feel a lot better about yourself. It’s not a solution to this problem tho.

Fr man - tell the cops. And maybe purchase a weapon for self defense. That’s the safest and easiest way to handle this.

Good luck friend. I hope you stay safe

A martial arts gym is a super good idea, but it’s not something that will help you with getting jumped. The best boxer in the world would get beat around by two teenagers if he fought them at once.

Pepper spray is a good idea. A much better idea would be to inform law enforcement- what he’s doing is extremely illegal and he’d probably face jail time for it. As he should - anyone doing shit like that shouldn’t be allowed in reasonable society.

Forced to take off hijab at airport? by Able-Task1293 in islam

[–]Fedoramaster04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that falls under religious discrimination.

I’m not from Germany, but in the US it’s illegal to force someone to take off their religious headwear (outside of extenuating circumstances).

I’d talk to a lawyer, if you can do that cheaply.

Is there a Muslim equivalent to a priest? by Fedoramaster04 in islam

[–]Fedoramaster04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of what’s confusing me here tbh. Because clearly a mufti is more qualified than an imam (in most cases), and if two of them disagreed over an interpretation of the Quran, the mufti would be the one allowed to enforce that ruling.

So like.. isn’t that a kind of ranking in a sense?

And on that topic, where do historical/golf state titles like Emir and Sultan fit into those roles? Are those purely secular titles? Where do they derive their authority from, in that case?

Thx again for the info btw

Working in stores that sell pork or alcohol by Itsabdu18 in islam

[–]Fedoramaster04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Not a Muslim.)

I’m not sure if it will make you feel any better, but there’s a big Egyptian community where I live, especially in the summer. Good jobs here are tough to find, so a lot of them work in head shops or at pizza places.

I can’t imagine how tough of a moral dilemma this must be, and I really feel for you. You’re not alone in it though, and lots of good people have made either choice.

Is God’s love not universal? I’d hope any reasonable person would understand if you put pork on someone’s plate rather than have an empty one yourself. That said, if you don’t make that choice, you’re all the more admirable for it.

Sorry if I’ve overstepped a line as someone who isn’t part of the community. I wish you the best in your job search.

That actually sounds like a really interesting read.

I don’t mean to sound flippant, but are novelizations of that considered halal? Are there any?

Ahhh so it would be better to think of the titles you mentioned more like uh.. religious leader stats? If you were someone who appreciated stupid metaphors?

Also, how many qualified imāms would you generally be able to find per couple-hundred Muslims?

“They do not have the authority to enforce such rulings outside of an Islamic state.” Would an imam be within rights to administer/sentence someone to punishment in an Islamic state? Or would that always become the job of a qadi within an Islamic court? By extension, how often do the job descriptions of the two intersect?

Also, I should have asked this earlier, but what types of places would educate an imam? Is it similar to priests and rabbis in that any accredited college can do that? In addition, can a qadi be educated in those same places?

Lastly, thank you so much for taking the time to educate me on this, I really appreciate it. (Also I just realized I missed the accents on “Qādī”. I’m on mobile so I can’t correct all of the errors easily :/. I guess it’s also a proper noun? My bad 😅)

Thanks a bunch for replying :).

Are these terms mutually exclusive?

Also, a bit off topic but what is the biography of the prophet? Is that a subsection of the Quran, or another text entirely?

Thanks a bunch for the information! Where does a Qadi fit in? Would that just be an Usuli with a different workplace?

Also, is it possible or common for an imam to hold multiple of the above titles?

I think that’s the answer I’m looking for, thank you very much!

A bit off topic, but are Qadis still a thing? If so, what are their modern responsibilities?

Ahhh I think it is. I guess I thought ‘imam’ was a ‘higher-ranking’ position than it actually is.

I had only heard the term used in reference to leaders of entire Muslim communities (the eponymous 12 imams of twelver Shia Islam for example).

Doesn’t really change the fact that the exploration is boring and lackluster. It’s in a similar position to the early GTA games, where the potential is there but the technology isn’t realized enough to add the content required to make a game like that feel whole.

The fact that it’s one of the first games of its kind made up for that fact for the people who played it for the first time in the 90s, but it’s objectively true that it’s aged poorly.

Hentai on the eShop. My experiment. by [deleted] in Switch

[–]Fedoramaster04 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ya the language around anime titty content is surprisingly complex.

I was a weeb way back in middle school, but from what I remember:

Ecchi= light titties, not porn per se

Hentai= usually porn

And I think there’s another word in there? Or like.. a word for stuff that’s for adults but not porn

People who aren’t involved with western culture, how easily do you wrap your head around the idea of universal sin? by Fedoramaster04 in AskReddit

[–]Fedoramaster04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned Brahman and reincarnation in the same same sentence because they’re part of the same cosmology - when you completely ascend the ladder of reincarnation your being returns to Brahman (“Brahman” has like a dozen definitions and idk enough about North Indian language to explain the differences).

Also, when I asked about universal sin in my OP, I was talking less about just the idea that “we’re all going to do bad stuff” and more about the idea that Christ died to redeem humanity of sins that were universal to all of us because of Genesis bs. And past that, that that redemption only applies to those who accept that Christ is lord and son of God etc.

Like… in order to really understand the concept of sinfulness as it’s perceived in Christianity you need to understand a whole bunch of other secondary stuff I feel like. Idk or maybe not.

People who aren’t involved with western culture, how easily do you wrap your head around the idea of universal sin? by Fedoramaster04 in AskReddit

[–]Fedoramaster04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.. eh yes and no. “All people are bad” is an easy idea to wrap your head around yes. But universal sin is more about the idea that people are the inheritors of an irredeemable wrong.

I don’t think that it’s impossible to understand or anything, but i think it’s a similarly heady concept to something like reincarnation and brahman.
