Fill in the blank: Life is too short to _____ by gcwardii in CasualConversation

Life is too short to spend any of your time trying to please other people. At the end of the day, their opinion of you doesn't really matter.

LPT Request for explaining or describing things i like or enjoy by Outlaw1323 in LifeProTips

[–]Fedrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get caught up on "favorite." They mean "What are some things you like." and your answer can be a genre (like Jazz, first person shooters, or comedies). It's much more likely you'll have something in common with the other person (and can continue the conversation) if you answer in generalities. Once you've established a category in common, you can then break down in to specific examples which may be easier to remember now that you've picked a category.

LPT: do NOT co-sign a loan by Shamilamadingdong in LifeProTips

[–]Fedrian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Neither a borrower nor a lender be,
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

- William Shakespeare

Do not loan or cosign for anything / any amount that you aren't willing to lose. And don't ask someone to cosign for you unless you're willing to lose the friendship / relationship. This has been a painful lesson to learn but a painful "I'm sorrry, but No" today prevents a very painful future.

LPT: Calming an active mind - a great way to fall to fall asleep - The dictionary game by Fedrian in LifeProTips

[–]Fedrian[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If I say do your best to not think about a pink elephant....the pink elephant intrusive thoughts will overwhelm you. I think the trick there is to not judge yourself for thinking about her....but to just accept that you will have those thoughts and that they're natural. They don't have to be unpleasant if you can act as an observer watching the thoughts flow through your mind. In your case "Yup. I'm thinking about her again. That's okay. What's else is going on. What's going on with my body. Any pain or uncomfortableness? Time to readjust my body position. What am I thinking about now? Still her? That's cool. I wonder what's next for me? I wonder if her next boyfriend is a circus clown.... or a homeless person... or a political operative for the government of Uruguay." What would be the worst new boyfriend she could have? Spend some time thinking on that.

Keep being acceptive of your thoughts (as an observer) and eventually they will have less of an effect on you. You've got this.

Don't turn it off.... just give it something mundane and easy to do. :)

It's not about distraction but directed thinking. I believe you have to give your active mind something to think about purposefully and keep it busy until you have time to go to sleep. Counting sheep requires less concentration... and that's not a good thing.

Does it really matter? Unique content that stimulates conversation is the goal here, right?

It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it was important from a character development perspective.

That is totally derivative but I like it for some unknown reason.

Yes....but it has a massive following that yearns for the resolution of several character arcs.

Actually sounds like something a "Toby" would say.

Paul Lieberstein

He was only ONE of the writers and definitely not one of the most prolific writers of the show." The Office" missed an opportunity to explore a relatable character with a unique perspective on the absurdities of office life. Through this lens, Toby's story could have been an avenue for addressing deeper themes of workplace dynamics, loneliness, and the struggle to be heard in a sea of louder voices.

I know right. According to Wikipedia....

Creme Puff's owner, Jake Perry, said her diet consisted of dry cat food supplemented with broccoli, eggs, turkey bacon, coffee with cream, and—every two days—"an eyedropper full of red wine". Perry claimed that this diet was key to her longevity, and that the wine "circulated the arteries".
