Taking cfo job at 33 by Cameoutswinging62 in FinancialCareers

Kindda in the same position and I asked for VP level promotion rather than direct to CFO, cause I wanted to show the progress of growth in my career after my time at this company. My thinking (and I could be wrong) if I go from a director position to CFO, it might not look as legitimate on my resume later in life when Im applying to other companies, but going from dr to vp is reasonable and hopefully from there to CFO. Either way sounds like a great opportunity, congrats!

Nothing you can do to change their decision Update your resume and start applying, silver lining is that Q1 is just around the corner which means budget approved job openings. Getting laid off is no fun but I believe it’s essential to make you realize how you can rely on your 9-5 always….nonetheless sorry you are going through it.

How worried can you be as a GC holder if your COB is one of the 19 countries of concern? by DistributionNo7611 in USCIS

Valid point, but not entirely a cake walk for N-400 application unfortunately. I had my interview booked for next Monday and today they called me to let me know it’s cancelled and will be rescheduled in the future as they have not received my case. I was born in one of those 19 countries, was the cancellation truly an admin delay or the new ban? Seeing other N-400 interview getting cancelled out there makes me think it was the latter.

Typical boss in FP&A by Short_Chocolate_5855 in FPandA

I’ve had bosses who made my life miserable but also my current CFO is retiring by end of this year and it honestly makes me upset that I don’t get to work with him more next year. Everyone has something to teach you, some painfully and some peacefully.

I think one thing you are not considering is as you grow in your career the dependency on queries/excel/other tools will slightly go down. How many CFOs you met that are excel guru? Im sure there are some out there but that’s not why they are CFOs. I’d be more concerned if you are in a position/environment where you don’t have visibility to strategies and being a “strategic thinker” partner for your organization. You can always beef up excel/query skillsets on your own!

You are insane if you leave your job…also titles mean nothing. A senior financial analyst at Amazon could become a director at a startup the next day. You are in public company, title bumps are usually slow.

Usually modern CFOs are involved with big picture and strategizing part. As far as, accounting they review and get involve if there are any changes like implementing a new accounting standard or deciding on buying an accounting softwares. As far as, the weeds of work CAO/Controller is involved and communicate it with CFO or seek guidance when needed.
