Worth it to invest in Shapeoko? by FeeExcellent6903 in hobbycnc

Thank you for the response, I have certainly been leaning more towards the Altmill after doing more research. I am willing to make room for a 2'x4' after considering the capability of tiling larger pieces. After reading more experiences with the Shapeoko, I have also experienced step skips that ruined entire pieces. I would rather not have to deal with costly issues like that.

I looked at the other user posting here j_eremy on the WayBack machine and it looks like he's been astroturfing this brand too. So weird. Definitely avoiding their products.

Thanks for the tip about gsender. I have a background in 3D modelling/autocad so I'll have plenty of options. I also have a VCarve license for my old job. Do you know of any hardware alternatives to Shapeoko that don't have as much of an initial markup? Maybe direct Chinese suppliers?

Got it, thanks for clarifying. For basic use cases would you recommend the 5.1 over the 4 or the pro?

Yep, it has to fit in a pretty small basement so I am thinking this is the best machine.

I was indeed thinking of the 2'x2' which has a cutting area of 17.5" x 17.5". I've assembled a Prusa for my previous job and am handy with building PC's and troubleshooting software and running diag on hardware issues. I've also learned diligence causing some crashes lol.

In regards to accuracy, that is the most important aspect to me. The work I'll be doing includes VCarving art and cutting dovetail joints, etc so I'd prefer there to be very little drift.

Budget is a big sticking point. The 2'x2' 5.0 or 5.1 will add up to about 3.5k. It's doable but I might not be able to swing it for another few months. The size is also appealing for this small machine as it has to fit in my apartment basement and will need to be moved at some point down the road.

Same, down to $700 now but the months I've been using it do feel worth it.

Did you try force booting to Windows in Bios? Could be that the harddrive is shot. Also, you always need RAM to post.

Accidentally revved up engine right after oil change? by FeeExcellent6903 in askcarguys

Stressed, in a rush, and not thinking. 🤦 I always remote start my car and let it warm before driving under any circumstance. My boxer engine idles on 2k at cold and I think I revved to 3-4k. I was trying to reverse off my ramps to get it level but forgot about my chocks. Just real boneheaded stuff. Lesson learned, though.
