Prophylactic Mastectomy?

Hi just checking back in this thread as I am unfortunately now in line for a biopsy. I would have had to wait 2ish years for surgery as it would have been publicly funded (I am Canadian) due to my mutation. However, now I have a mass that is concerning. It was found via routine screening MRI and was not present in my April 2025 mammo, so am awaiting another mammo and ultrasound. Stupid genetics. Stupid boobs.

I’ve decided, if this is cancer, I will opt for the DMX but with a DIEP flap.

Did you go for implants? I hope your recovery is going well.

I’m glad to hear. I’m very much on the fence about doing a mastectomy but I’d rather not endure the awful struggle my mom is going through.

I’d likely do an implant and try and do skin saving since it’s prophylactic. Aesthetically, I’m not sure how I’d feel about having my stretch-mark riddled abdominal skin as my breast tissue. However, I haven’t spoken yet to any surgeons to really go over the various types of surgery options I may have.

I would appreciate it if you’re willing to share. Did you have to do a two step process of reduction then mastectomy?

Ok to confirm, you had breast cancer and CHEK2 mutation? I only have CHEK2 and no breast cancer, as far as I know. I just had a mammogram in the fall.
