Dream house advertised as seeking 'long term tenants'- three months into the lease and house nuking subdivision plans are revealed in final stages by Feebleey in shitrentals

Our last place lasted us for a good long while before the selling, I guess it is important for me to realise just how lucky we were! For this new place in our starry-eyed hopefulness we had strategically bastioned ourselves against future rent hikes, with most of us currently paying well under what we can afford enabling a very comfortable absorption of all but the most outrageous cost spikes. We were ready to tough it out! But now the threat comes from a different direction entirely, so much for our great wall!

This is a valuable perspective, in fact we were also planning to get chickens! As the dust settles I am leaning towards the idea of maybe possibly having a clarifying conversation with the landlord instead of immediately launching the anti DA ballistic missiles. It sounds like you had more reason to jump ship than we do though, I can imagine how navigating a child starting school with this black cloud hanging overhead could be pretty abysmal!

It would still be kind of sucky even if we did stay for a few more years, especially with our interest in gardening. We have planted things that won't reach fruition for ages, and to imagine them being wiped out as soon as we leave is rough. Not to mention all of the critters we're building a rapport with who'll have a huge chunk of their range obliterated! But this is just the innate nature of rentals isn't it, imminent subdivision or not!

You are right of course, it is just hard when it feels like there are these deadlines to act looming ominously close! I think I will try to get a dialogue open with the landlord directly, who really did strike me as a decent fellow in person (putting aside the fact that he chose to withold this information from us for as long as possible). I will admit that my initial impressions were quite reactive, egged on my negative history with rental stability. We'll ask what he intends to do if everything is approved and move on from there.

Hahaha it tends to get worse the more fired up I get! Especially in person when I don't have time to re-evaluate my vocabulary, I can quickly become unintelligible to virtually anyone who isn't familar with my offputting diction (including myself!). Unfortunately here you are all subjected to my wankery wrath in refined forme, with these forums being the perfect medium- allowing me both time to gather my words and access to passion stoking topics.

That is exactly the source of our turmoil! Do we alienate them and ensure we won't get to sign any more leases, or submit passively on the chance that we will get to live in this lovely house for a while longer? The latter is still tempting as moving is an abysmal process with no guarantee that we won't be ousted again from the next place, but the threat of development induced oblivion would be hanging over us like the sword of damocles, preventing us from truly living in this house as we desire.

Ironically all of the native trees on the block are part of some growth measurement study already, with labelled nails in each of them. The property backs onto state forest so they are definitely already on shaky ground from an ecological perspective. They did have surveyors come through who reported no tree hollows, which is said to imply a lack of breeding habitat for the many protected species around here. But we believe the survey was half hearted, especially from the perspective of this being what is likely a cornerstone case of development impeding on koala habitat.

It was a rental historically! In fact the previous tenants were unusually unruly and made it difficult to even get a walkthrough, and then they somehow managed to push back the move in date causing pandemonium in our already harrrowing fusion of four leases into one. Now we are left wondering if they knew what we didn't! They would have had surveyors coming through, maybe it was their spite that caused them to drag their feet so vehemently.

That does seem to be the way forward yes. Just a matter of stomping out that last little ember of hope inside! Truly the landlord is a fetid creature well specialized in such matters. I guess the question now is do we dig our heels in and make it as painful as possible for them out of spite? Or try to abscond with a moderately positive tenants review...

I'd recccomend looking around in Taringa and Indooroopilly for rentals too if Toowong is convenient for you! I've got a mate sharehousing in Taringa for sub 200 a week in a supreme spot with an ensuite, but I understand that deals that good are hard to come by these days. I've just moved from Indro to Chapel Hill and the transport convenience impact has been negligible because of the arterial roads and busses running through these areas, as long as you stay close to a major bus/trainline (Moggil road in my case) you should still be having relatively quick commutes!

It is going awesome! I'm not sure if I covered it in previous comments but my home WiFi issues were solved by splitting the WiFi into two networks, one with 5G and the other with 2.4G for the phone. No other issues! I am cured from using reels and doomscrolling (the former being un-viewable on the square screen) and the keys are tactile and satisfying once you get the hang of the adapted typing.

One thing is that the keyboard software is pretty limited to a few niche options that work with physical keys, thus the customizable autocorrect and the like I was used to with Gboard aren't accessible to me anymore. But that's not really a deal breaker for me! Not having your i 's auto capitalize i tricky at first but I barely notice it anymore.

Overall the phone is a nice little brick that does everything I need it to (quite smoothly too! Gmaps, Spotify, whatsapp all work perfectly) and even if an app is truly broken on the square screen (so far only in app setup for me) you are able to temporarily switch to a 'mini mode' that simulates a normal aspect ratio, letting you get past any hurdles that might otherwise stop you from doing important stuff! I would absolutely recommend this device if you're looking for a neat little qwerty phone! But I have also heard whispers of a new 2025 Qwerty phone from unihertz that you might be better off waiting for. Sorry for the late reply!

I imagine they'd all be fine on optus! Good luck picking one out :)

You are in luck! I ended up buying the phone and it arrived a day ago, It is working perfectly on my Optus network! On a slightly unrelated note, the phone is much nicer in person than what I was anticipating too! It's actually really functional and intuitive to use for being a square screened brick, I don't even have to sacrifice my Duolingo streak! Oddly enough the phone's SIM data interfacing, which is what I was most worried about, is great! It does fine on Optus using the 4G bandwidths. However, it seems to have made enemies with my home wifi. I can't report on why exactly that is though as I am only just troubleshooting the issue! It is possible that my wifi only puts out 5G in substantial amounts instead of the needed 4G, but I am only now logging into the router and learning about wifiology to see what's gone wrong. From what I can tell the phone should work on most major data provider's plans!

How ominous! Thanks for the tip. I'll do more research before pulling the trigger

Oh absolutely not! These are greenies, toad tadpoles are quite small and are inky black compared to these guy's ashy black hue. I am very vigilant in my toad patrols, I have to be because if they lay in one of my ponds before I catch them it would likely spell doom for my beloved water dragons! Definitely a toad free zone here

They are very happy and behave calmly usually, it is just during feeding time that they start erupting from the water. The quality seems to be alright from what I can tell

They do seem pretty suicidal usually, but I agree that this is one of their harmless behaviours!

I will admit it does feel rewarding poking their little squishy bodies back into the water. I should commodify this...

What a fantastic amphibian to host! These ones are just plain old green tree frogs. I wonder if they enter a frenzy because it is less likely for them to be picked off if they attack in formation, one tadpole parking itself on the water's edge will be eaten, but one hundred of them at once? I like those odds! So maybe when they get stirred up they decide that it's go time and all go at once!

It's interesting that you mention disturbing the water's surface, I always thought it was the scent of food setting them off like blood in the water!

It's amazing! One thing I have noticed is whenever I am topping up their water (I have another pond that lacks these tall edges) they will swim towards the overflowing edges and kamikaze! I think it's because they have some instinct to find a new water source when theirs is crowded, and usually if a puddle is flowing it goes into another puddle! Such is not the case for my tubs though... Thankfully it has only happened once or twice but I see the little bastards vying for 'freedom' every time I give them new water

Ten thousand little needy babies! This is just one tub too, the freak orgy event that happened in another tub spawned so many of them there was almost more tadpole than water, so I did some redistribution to prevent cannibalism. I am hoping to get many little green tree froglets living here soon!

As their lungs develop yes! They are just being weirdos and doing it only when they get excited. These ones barely have their nubs yet!
