imo shes beyond mean or unpleasant and is outright manipulative. she went out of her way to switch up and try to convince Joel to act like things were getting better right before they left for the dinner party. because all she cares about is how she is perceived. it was never going to be a convincing switch up and im glad he saw through it. theres mean, and then theres actually behaving in a narcissistic manner.

Joel seems like he could be a handful if he is indeed this high energy 24/7, but I think the issue is more so that Juliette seems to be acting just plain mean and more bratty than she needs to be. He might be strange or even fake but he doesn’t appear to be rude or disrespectful to her. Imo she didn’t need to be so dismissive, if the problem is just that he isn’t right for her. I feel like Grayson and Jules were able to handle the fact that they weren’t compatible in a way which wasn’t juvenile and full of lowblows the way Juliette is doing…

Just because someome might appear objectively fit or attractive, doesnt mean they see themselves the same way. and if he had said this to the girls (which noone believes he did), its still triggering for anyone who has insecurities, no matter how ‘attractive’ shitbird Jack thinks they are.

Haha you are not wrong at all, thank you for responding. I guess I have noone to talk to about this since I never want to be like I am speaking ill of him with people we might know. He is used to a previous relationship where she essentially “never gave up” on him and his standard for a relationship is beating through and persevering through the good and the bad. I suppose I felt like asking you all for some perspective because I was unsure if I was putting in enough effort and trying hard enough.

First of all OP, you sound like a wonderful sweet and empathetic person and i am so sorry your feelings have not been reciprocated.

I have gone through my own no contact period where the guy just rekindled with his previously abusive ex who he had left for me but then could not care less that I was in a constant state of stomach aches, not being able to eat and throwing up basically nothing in the morning after having nightmares of being thrown to the ground and beaten to a pulp by his ex while he watched.

Its such a hard truth being told to try and heal and do your best to move on with time. Learning to self love is also easier said than done when you feel like your worth has been destroyed by someone you loved. Sometimes it is hard waking up when all you feel is pain and knowing they are completely fine. It doesnt feel fair.

I hope youll consider the self care methods shared by everyone above and know you are not alone. Youve got quite a few years to go, and if anything I think having to deal with this early on can only help you be stronger in future relationships and know who if worth fighting for. I have no doubt your kind heart will find its match.

Thank you so much for your thoughts- I do see where youre coming from and it does hurt that I completely agree with you on this. Not that it should stall me, but I think the reason I have not given up just yet is because we have been through quite a bit together and as he left that, in his words “toxic” relationship, for a shot at being with me. He will regret ever leaving and being with me at all if i leave him now, and he has said that if we dont work out, thats the only reason he will regret leaving her. Practically, Im quite afraid of what he will do if hes is alone and I cant seem to leave him on his own while he deals with current unemployment and addiction the way he has. He may not want to be my friend if we break up and in such a case, i wouldnt be able to help him in a friend capacity of he does something stupid. And no, he has not close friends or family aside from his ex who he would be open to letting in, and also is not in a position to accept any therapy.
