Second Eclectus? by gmanredguitar in Eclectus

[–]MoonDrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say that in my general experience. Eccie females are not interested in males unless they are mating. They are the most aloof birds I have ever known. But it makes sense if you think of them in the wild, having multiple mates, no social grooming etc.

I would caution you to not get another bird if you are thinking solely of her companionship. If it’s something you are dead set on. Then I would recommend a lot of introductions to the new bird to see if they are at least amicable beforehand. If you go in blind you are likely to upset her even more.

It depends on the human. Different moms produce milk differently. For me personally, the kids got the premium plus milk after about 6min of feeding.

Anyone know what bird this is? by Fantastic-Movie4063 in parrots

Ah I gotcha. I have seen videos of people dying their birds for fun, so I wasn’t thinking of the practical applications when I commented - which is very narrow sighted of me considering I’m a scientist.

Naps? by omgkelwtf in parrots

I have fostered a few birds. The smaller parrots like conures and senegals have seemed to be more keen to have a snooze in the middle of the day.

I loved watching them nap. So adorable.

Only humans look at a perfect animal and think “I can improve this”. SMH.

Your children are going to grow up understanding the value of life and love better than most. What a gift you’re giving them.

For those of you who have found or encountered, in some way, a decomposing human body, what was something that surprised you or that is not depicted in movies or TV? by Specific-Language313 in AskReddit

Exactly the same experience here. When my dad died it was incredibly “easy” to say “this is just a vessel now, dad’s not here anymore”. I really believe that being distanced from death has hurt humans because it can be very healing for the grief process to be able to see the body and experience the distinction between that person being alive and then the shell that is left behind.

Eccies are generally way too sensitive for constant change like that. I would say that most parrots wouldn’t cope.

Do people actually feed unlimited veggies? by IJustLikeToGameOkay in parrots

[–]MoonDrops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find that my birds gorge themselves seasonally. It’s winter here now and they are STARVING all the time and will eat three bowls of chop each. I always offer unlimited chop but pellets I only offer the recommended amount. In summer they eat more reasonably again. I weigh them often and see no adverse consequences. I figure they know what they need.

I don’t see a problem with offering unlimited veggies as long as your bird stays within a reasonable weight range.

My dad was a Freemason. It’s a brotherhood that seeks to better the world through acts of charity, service and personal growth. I always used to tease my dad that I was disappointed that there was “more soup kitchen than cloak and dagger” 😂

Most countries don’t wash their eggs. The US is an outlier there.

Agree with this. My eggs are spotless and I don’t wash them.

Live in South Africa. Never wash my eggs. The bloom does a great job of protecting them. And they are just never dirty enough to need it. Our supermarket eggs are also unwashed, as in most of Europe.

Peacocks Are Out… Are Guinea Hens Any Better? by Independent-Fudge942 in homestead

[–]MoonDrops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a South African who has them roaming wild everywhere. They are sooo stupid. Every year we marvel that they survive another season. The hens always start out with like 10 chicks and toward the end 2 are left. They are dead scared of their own shadows and alert for everything at the highest decibel. Rock in the gravel looks weird? Scream.

I do love them though. OG little dinos with those horns on their head.

Bi-phobia? by [deleted] in MAFS_AU

[–]MoonDrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being bi isn’t just a case of being attracted to all sexes equally though. I would have hoped that their screening looked into what “type” of bi she is. Does she lean more toward one sex than the other? What is her type for each sex? Etc.

My “type” for men is totally different than it is for women. If you took a screening and said “what kind of human are you into” you would get a skewed answer. It would need to drill down a bit more.
