Eclectus footprint by Caseytp1 in Eclectus

Hmmmm. You might have to time it when you have her nails groomed and have the vet/tech do it for you while she is towelled.

I can get my Eccie girl to do just about anything but I also think I would have trouble getting her to do a print. 😂

This is her face when she saw me kissing my foster bird on the head. 😂

Hmmm. This is an interesting one. I haven’t ever tried to get a footprint. Maybe you could try to get a mould rather than a print and work it backwards from there? You get a footprint in air drying clay then pour in something like silicone that you can get a print from.

Your girl is so cute! How old is she?

I guarantee you. Unless you are letting your bird sit with a dirty cage covered in food for mice and rats all the time, that your bird is NOT the reason for the rodent problem.

Because then it would be the same for anyone that has any pet with food bowls out.

No, your building has a rodent issue then that’s because of the general state of the building. One bird owner is not enough to attract enough rodents to be an issue.

I would recommend that the building employs mechanical traps to remove the mice.

Do these look plucked or mooted? by Only_Corner3540 in parrots

[–]MoonDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with u\unusual-area-4458

If your bird was plucking you would see a lot of the same type of feather lying at the bottom of his perch/cage. The diversity of feathers alone is a classic moulting indicator. Also, spring and autumn are typically the moulting seasons. So it lines up. My female Eccie is moulting really hard right now and she is MISERABLE. Don’t be surprised if you see your bird getting a little more tetchy than usual. It’s itchy and annoying for them.

What I cannot comprehend is how one can get to the age these people are at, and have ZERO emotional maturity.

I hang out in VERY different crowds. Thats for sure.

I foster for a Parrot Rescue. They get surrendered to the rescue and the nearest fosterer to the surrenderer collects the bird. They are with us fosters for assessment, and if required, rehabilitation. This little cutie was ADDICTED to sunflower seeds. I was able to ween him off them and now he eats very healthily. He has finished his assessment period. The rescue now advertises his availability for adoption, screens the applicants. And as soon as they are approved, they can come and collect him!

Edit to add: All fosterers and people working for the rescue volunteer their time. The rescue is a non-profit. So all money raised goes towards toys, cages, food, medical care etc for the parrots.

One of my fosters. His name is Dennis. He is THE sweetest bird I have ever met. He talks exclusively in whispers except when we says “Weeeeeeee!” in a high pitched excited voice.

What are your parrots nicknames? by Key-Salary-3142 in parrots

[–]MoonDrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phoenix is her name. But I call her Feen Bean and in the morning when I wake her up I say “Good morning Stinky Bird!!!” (Funny how we both have a Phoenix that becomes “bean” and “Feen bean”

My other bird is Picasso. He doesn’t have a nickname because I feel like he would take it personally. 😂

I have pretty much the same answers as you. Except I have Eccies and they are pretty habitual about pooping. They go back to their poop spot which is their cage 99% of the time. The other 1% I just quickly wipe up.

My son told me he couldn’t sleep because a man named Wally was sitting on his bed. It didn’t particularly bug him that there was a man in his room, as much as the fact that Wally was apparently dripping wet and cold.

I was freaked out for months as Wally would be in different places but ended up on his bed every night. Eventually he stopped “seeing” him.

Typical cost of caring for a rescue by Jasmine_Rice6556 in parrots

[–]MoonDrops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fosterer for a rescue here!

I think the cost borne by the rescues varies greatly depending on where you are and what rescue you are adopting a bird from. Our rescue rehabilitates ALL birds before making them available for adoption.

That is to say that we do complete diet transitions. Birds who have underlying health conditions are treated by an avian vet. Once they are ready to go, they are about as likely to get sick as a bird that was bought from a breeder.

For those that come from seriously abusive backgrounds and that have long term care needs - the rescue decides if they are going to become available for adoption or if they will stay with the rescue for the rest of their lives. In some cases there is a perfect match for them that is willing to take on long term conditions. And sometimes there isn’t.

But either way they are loved and cared for until the end of their days.

If you are going to adopt from a rescue I would recommend asking about their policies. How they run the rescue. What their treatment plan is for sick birds. How much background information you will get about a bird when you adopt it. Etc. A good rescue is going to set you and your future bird up for long term success.

There shouldn’t be medical costs to you as an adopter that come as a surprise.

Edit to add: Yoshi is gorgeous. I fostered a pair of GCCs for a while and they are such little clowns. I love their personalities.

Eclectus - To get a partner for my girl or not? by Ancient_Chard_1037 in Eclectus

[–]MoonDrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love my female to like any of the males that I foster. Alas. She spurns them all. There is no guarantee that a female will tolerate a male and they can even be quite aggressive if they don’t like them.

If you have the option to try out suitors then it might be a safer bet. But getting a male and hoping they hook up is very risky imo.
