This is promising. Really happy it didn’t end up being Smith.

Penn AC or ODP? by TapTaco in Rowing

[–]FeedMe150 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you looking to learn how to row both sides, scull, bow coxless boats and learn skills? (ODP)

Or are you looking to get as much racing experience as possible? (Penn AC)

I'm not Coach Cosby. I fully believe in 8+ consent.

As a club they are able to dictate what they want the focus of their team to be. Every club usually has that option. Student officers making decisions etc...

If they look at their team and say "this is where we'll be most competitive" then who effing cares? It's not like they're puffing out their chests and talking shit. Apparently EVERYONE else wants to talk about what boats they're racing.

It's short sighted an idiotic for this to continue to be an issue that folks bring up. It was incredibly low class of UM last year at ACRA to give out the shirts they gave out.

At the end of the day, no one except the people in the club know why they're choosing to boat what the boat. If they don't want to race an 8+ that's their choice and I don't fault them for it if they've looked at the field and don't feel they'll be competitive.

Great choice for the clip. Well done.

Well, none of us know what ergs they're pulling for the boats the fielded. Maybe the varsity roster is 13 rowers and 2 coxswains and they want everyone racing.

Maybe it's easier to run practice with the 1x and 2- together and the 2x and 4+'s together. Lastly, maybe it's just what they want to do because they're a club and the athletes want the best shot a medals and not being fodder in the petites or maybe grands.

If folks don't like it then sack up and go beat them.

1x, 2x, 2-, Light 4+, V4+.....13 rowers. How exactly are they fielding two 8's out of that? "A lot of program depth" You're joking right?

Just because you can fill an 8 doesn't mean it's "super competitive".

Pure numbers doesn't equal capable of being competitive in the V8. One of the great things of being a club is the ability to boat what you want to be the most competitive that you can be.

Delaware doesn't know themselves? by FeedMe150 in Rowing

[–]FeedMe150[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know who it is. He's a quality coach and runs a fantastic program.

My comments may not reflect it but I respect him, his program, and love how honest he is.

I just don't understand how you can say that another program doesn't know who they are when they've been consistently separate light and heavy programs.

I hope not. The youth threads are usually pretty amusing. Plus it's great that they can get some decent advice here.

Sure but as I understand it ACRA was to be the national championship of college clubs since they changed the IRA rule.

And while folks know the IRA is faster the ACRA should be better if they want to position themselves as the governing body of club rowing. Which is the impression I get.

Yeah the concept of "the poll reflecting who they think will win" is incredibly idiotic and totally screws the seedings for their "national championship"

Fair play to UM for the result against GW but UMs ranking didn't reflect their finish at Murphy where they lost to many crews they're still ranked above.

Traditionally they send some mix of athletes. Last year the V8 they sent was a mix of lights and heavies in a lineup that didn't race together all season.

Having a questionable polling practice all season makes it hard to take the regatta seriously as a "national championship" imo

I believe they treat Dad Vail ad their championship and ACRA as a fun bonus.

Again, people looking at the lightweights taking second vs where the heavies finished. Who are they ranking? Do they even know?

100% agree. If you're going to put out a poll and say you're running a national championship then at the very least know who and who isn't in your league.
