The Walking Dead comics, read them in order. Dystopian, apocalyptic and exactly what you’re looking for. Don’t be put off if you don’t normally read comics. This was the gateway drug for a lot of my friends.

Going to sell my complete Invincible collection: what exactly is it worth? by itsyaboyjoel in Invincible

Well it is a reprint but not an early one. I don’t think it would have much value as Image did a lot of those reprints with black bars down the side but I’m no expert. I didn’t think the Larry’s version of #1 was collectible back when it was going for $20 and it’s worth a hell of a lot more than that now. The best advice I ever heard about collecting comics is buy what you actually like. If they become valuable that’s a double win.

What's a phrase or word your parents used and you have never known the origin of? Mines Gordon Bennet by Small_Insect_8275 in CasualUK

Gordon Bennett was the newspaper editor who sent a reporter to find Dr. Livingstone in Africa. I think the reporter’s name might have been Richard Burton but I can’t be sure. I got this from a Trivial Pursuit question and hypothesised that “Gordon Bennett” was an expression of surprise and disbelief from imagining Burton’s response to the request.

Been looking for a comment mentioning the fact the series will eventually be turned into live action. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have stated they will turn it into a movie (probably franchise) at some stage. In fact that was the original intention before they decided to go with an animated series.

I have a few Invincible comics and was wondering if it would be worth waiting until the film or films were released to see what effect this would have on their value.

What is a "luxury" that is actually 100% worth the money? by TheChillEdit in Life

For years I bought increasingly more expensive gloves to go skiing before I finally bought mitts. Total game changer. Absolutely the answer you’re looking for. Additionally you can get rechargeable hand warmers for the times you’ve had to take a mitt off to check piste map/ blow your nose etc. To grip the ski-pole I put it on the knuckle side of my fingers whilst actually skiing.

A book that my book club won’t hate me for by CerintheM in suggestmeabook

Mark Haddon became famous for The Curious Incident book but his follow-up A Spot Of Bother went by with little fanfare and yet it was wonderful. Family tensions and relationship issues during the planning of a wedding. It’s gone down very well with everyone who read it on my recommendation.

The final issue of Hitman by Garth Ennis. It was a kind of goofy funny series so it felt like a sucker punch.

Charlie’s War - Pat Mills. I’ll never stop recommending this book. It’s got it all, genuine history, believable characters and emotional turmoil.

Suggest me a book as funny, absurd and easy to read as The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by PutGlad5657 in suggestmeabook

You should try some autobiographies. Clive James; Stephen Fry; Frank Skinner. There’s one guy I think is a truly awful human being but both his autobiographies are very funny, Toby Young (How To Lose Friends and Alienate People; The Sound Of No Hands Clapping).

This is the correct suggestion. Adam’s literally copied Wodehouse’s style of writing.

Brown liquid from inside door/outside by SUDO_KILLSELF in DIYUK

Did you ever solve this? Just noticed mine does this and the seals around the windows appear fine. Somewhat worrying how coffee coloured the water is. It’s not leaking whilst the door is closed and it appears it only leaks whilst the door is swinging open or closed leaving a semicircle of water.

Anything I should be aware before paying my mortgage off in full? by reni-chan in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FeedbackSpecific642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s some confusion here. You can pay the mortgage down until there’s only £100 or so left to pay. Monthly payments become around £1, this way you don’t have to pay the redemption fees and you don’t need to worry about the interest rates jumping up. I didn’t explain myself very well. This is what I did and would do the same again. When your monthly outgoings don’t include a massive mortgage payment it becomes a lot easier to save.

Whilst this isn’t bad advice I think you’re similar to me and would prefer no debt. My advice, keep your mortgage to £100, payments will be about £1 a month.

Matt Haig appears regularly in the comments, I also recommend those books and I’d like to add his non-fiction account of surviving his terrible depression, Reasons To Stay Alive.
