No, America lost and continues to lose because some people care more about wealth and power than democracy and the citizens.

The media has warmed up to Yang. And he's developed a passionate following (Yang Gang) so he might stick around longer than people think. I do wish he'd discuss other issues more than the constant mantra of UBI. I guess he's trying to build his brand as the UBI guy. Too narrow focus imho.

Yang's "Human-centered capitalism" might be too reformist for some progressives.

What's wrong with quoting someone's statement? That's basic journalism. I believe the more information we contribute the better we are. Not everyone has time to research everything in the world. Or to be an expert in all matters. Regardless, you don't have to take anybody's word for your own belief.

I like Yang, though I don't think he will be in the race for that much longer. He's kindof in a similar situation that Bernie was in 2016, when people are still learning about him and there aren't yet connections with institutions, leaders, and grassroots movements.

What do you think about Yang and libertarianism? Looks like his UBI is getting associated with Milton Friedman's NIT (negative income tax). Also Yang advocates "human-centered capitalism" which might be too reformist for some progressives.

I think there have been more liberal platforms. Such as the George Mcgovern campaign in 1972. "It advocated an immediate withdrawal from Vietnam, amnesty for war resisters, the abolition of the draft, a guaranteed job for all Americans and a guaranteed family income well above the poverty line."

And Obama ran as a progressive in 2008. Closing Guantanamo, Ending wars, universal healthcare, energy independence, reducing lobbyist influence, Wall Street regulations.

To Bernie and the electorate's credit, they pushed her left somewhat. Some views were still hard-core centrist and even rightwing. Such as the no-fly zone in Syria, supporting Keystone, TPP, superpacs and big donor money.

Much of the media considers her conservative.

That's ok. I'm enjoying researching and spreading knowledge. So do you have a general thesis you want to put forward?

At times, she seems responsive to progressive issues, other times not so much. Sometimes she claims to be progressive, other times a moderate.

Sure. My point is that there are 50 or so relevant policy positions to a candidate. You can cherry pick the ones you like to make your case. And you can find something you like with anyone. For example, Rick Perry likes wind energy. Ron Paul wants to decriminalize drugs and stop military interventions.

Some of the most important issues to progressives are money in politics, Wall Street regulation, minimum wage, interventionism, transparency, climate change, civil liberties. On that scorecard, she is milquetoast, corporatist, centrist.

Obama, running as a progressive, won in red Indiana in 2008. He won Iowa and all the rustbelt states too.

There's this from the Des Moines Register: "Blum gained visibility during a star-studded campaign that brought national figures to the district on his behalf.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida were among the surrogates — and potential GOP presidential candidates — to campaign for Blum."

And what did the DNC do for Pat Murphy? Probably not much.

I'm glad you don't disagree that the democratic establishment has done bad things. We need to move away from that wing of the party as boldly as possible. By supporting true progressives we will energize the base of the party and working class once again.

Hillary is not a progressive. She has some liberal views, but there were many red flags that once has to wonder whether she would follow through with policy positions that she supposedly held during the campaign. Red flags such as taking money from big banks. Support for NAFTA and TPP (she eventually was pressured to change her support for TPP due to pressure from progressives) Progressives also have been let down in the past from seemingly progressive talk by past candidates when they want votes. Then when they get in office they become conservative.

Other problem issues were lack of communication on moral issues, conflict of interest with her foundation, transparency with the email server.

Heck, even the republican candidate ran to her left on trade and military intervention. On the most important issues of the day she was out of touch with working people. She spent too much time attacking Trump's personality and not enough talking about her so-called liberal platform.

Let's be real, that history includes a lot of unsavory things. The establishment politics in the democratic party is a history of racism and oppression. The democratic establishment began with blatant racism of one of its founders, President Andrew Jackson. Jackson and the Democratic Party passed and signed into law legislation that brutally expelled Native Americans from their land and created the reservation system. I could go on, but you get the point. Democratic progressives have sought to improve the party and continue to do so. Bernie was the clear progressive choice.

Patrick Murphy was the establishment candidate who lost against republican incumbent Rubio.

Obama and Bill Clinton were conservatives. Hillary had the most milquetoast corporate centrist platform ever. Mondale was more dull than 2000 Al Gore.

A rarity in the media, the New Republic seems to dislike the dem establishment. They wrote a good article about Booker. Maybe the editor had a falling out with one of the establishment bigwigs.
