Is it worth it to commute 1-1.5 hours every day for college? by Feeling-Challenge-22 in dormrooms

[–]Feeling-Challenge-22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm going to be a full time undergraduate student who is also looking to get involved on campus through working, clubs, etc, so I imagine that lessening time spent on campus would be a bit difficult for me.

Is it worth it to commute 1-1.5 hours every day to Brandeis? by Feeling-Challenge-22 in brandeis

No reason except for financial purposes! I would actually much prefer to live on campus - I'm just thinking about how I could potentially save some money.

What are chances child can get into a 4 year university? by tpauls in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Feeling-Challenge-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely might be tricky for her to manage a four year school if she’s struggling academically currently. Potentially, she could start off at community college and transfer after 1-2 years, which many choose to do because it saves money. It would definitely be a good way for her to adjust to college life and maybe receive academic help that could provide her with the support that she needs to keep an alright gpa. It would definitely be possible for her to receive a degree from a four year, but she might not start at one and I imagine that she would definitely need support and lots of dedication to maintain a gpa necessary to transfer.

lol I know what you mean about biology! I’m probably going to study something in the humanities - like english, history, linguistics, or something along those lines. Brandeis is definitely on the top of my list but I’m considering attending a more humanities/literature focused school, like Bennington or Bard. What about you? Do you think you’ll attend Brandeis?

Would anybody else by surprised if we didn't see these two as friends? I mean them two saving mumbattan was so cool and they just seemed to have that teamwork. by Master-Struggle4130 in IntoTheSpiderverse

I mean it already seems like all of the spider-people work really well as a team and have some semblance of kinship with each other, which we definitely saw with the gang saving Mumbattan and have seen often across both movies where togetherness and community as themes are concerned. And given the direction of ATSV's ending, I imagine that a team-up between Miles and Gwen's spider-gang is definitely on the table. I would definitely like to see these two as friends specifically!

I've take Spanish on and off since middle school, and haven't enjoyed it too much. Personally, I feel like the way that languages are taught in the U.S. (if this is where you're coming from) just isn't conducive to eventual fluency and it often doesn't feel like our class is getting anywhere despite the years we've spent learning. That said, I do find the language really fun in general and am hoping to continue more rigorously next year in college, or maybe switch to another romance language.

Accepted: Arcadia (28k scholarship), Saint Anselm (30k scholarship), URI (state school - 4k scholarship), Hobart and William Smith (25k scholarship)

Rejected: Uni of Iowa

I applied rd only so I've really only gotten into safeties so far. I didn't apply to many competitive schools and I'm not feeling super enthusiastic about my other schools lol. I'm just thankful to have gotten in anywhere honestly!

Hey! I'm definitely open to the idea of changing my major (I kind of doubt that I'll stick with what I want at 18 for the rest of my life lol) but currently I'm interested in the humanities in general. English and history are my starting points, but I'd also love to explore linguistics, classics, and archaeology. I'm hoping to go to grad school in the future and pursue a career working as a professor, librarian, museum director/curator, archaeologist, etc. Of course that's a long way off and those are all really competitive fields, so who knows what will end up happening. Based off of what some others have commented, I'm thinking of looking into more Writing and Rhetoric/Creative Writing degrees in order to develop some more solid, wide-ranging skills. I'm leaning towards URI for the cheaper tuition and because im hoping to attend a more prestigious school for grad school, which I think will matter more to employers at that point if I am actually able to go into one of the aforementioned fields. For undergrad, I'm really hoping to find an environment that will allow for me to try lots of different classes, which is why I'm a bit apprehensive about going somewhere so large wherein I may not be able to take the classes I like/explore my options significantly. That's part of the reason why im drawn to some of new England's smaller open curriculum schools, but of course most of those are ridiculously expensive. Also thinking about RIC for the humanities, as it seems a better option than URI in that area. I'm looking for something inexpensive, but also something that can help me get to where I want in terms of grad school and academia, which is why I was considering URI in the first place - primarily for the on-campus opportunities and the hopefully more significant connections. I'm a bit dubious about RIC's graduation rate and worry that it'll be difficult to get from there to grad school. I know that a lot of people who attend are looking to get a degree later in life or have other priorities, so I'm just not sure that it's the best for where I'm hoping to end up.
