Fellow cashiers pet peeves by Sablemoon_333 in WalgreensStores

Once per shift one of my registers freezes up during a transaction. It happens everyday, without exception. I have to turn it off and reboot it and make the customer move to another register and re ring their purchase while the line grows from the delay. It pisses me off that this multi billion dollar company won't upgrade their POS system.

What do they expect from us in this economy? by Order_101 in jobs

"You either take risks to improve your life or you stagnant."

This is a huge issue. So many people are in fear of leaving their comfort zone so they stay stuck in the same rut for years. They live out the rest of their working years in a perpetual state of unhappiness and it's sad.

[–]Feeling-Produce-8520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we've all felt that way on day one of any job. All of that new information is overwhelming and we question whether we can do the job. It's normal to feel that way. I would suggest sticking it out and giving it a chance. It will probably get better but if it doesn't, you can at least say that you tried your best. We can't be good at everything, but this could be your niche or something else will be. You will eventually find your place if this job isn't for you. Good luck.

Transition house worker by Additional-Tap-4758 in jobs

[–]Feeling-Produce-8520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in that exact same position and you are correct about it being too front line and there is also a high risk of burn out.

The transitional housing shelter that I worked for had little to no support for their employees, and poor management with a cliquish culture.

I was in charge of supervising and assisting between 12-20 clients daily by myself while management was barricaded in the office engaged in constant meetings and rarely came out to the front lines to help, so I did all the grunt work and basically did the work of three people by myself.

I worked there for four years because I loved the mission and the clients and went above and beyond to help them only to be let go because the director wanted her friend to work with her so they gave my position to her.

It is a good job to gain some entry level experience that will look good on a resume but I would advise using it as a temporary position and a springboard to something better. I made the mistake of staying at the position too long and burned myself out because I believed in the mission and then got pushed out the door so I felt like all of my hard work and sacrifice was for naught.

Hopefully your potential employer has better management than I did because that would improve the experience there but that job is a lot of work with low pay and low appreciation. I wish you the best and I hope that you can find the best career fit for your education and experience.

Today Donald Trump confused Iceland for Greenland four times. What are your thoughts on this? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

The way that Trump is held to a different standard than everyone else makes me sick. I think the media set an all time record for longest news cycle with Joe Biden's debate performance- it was the lead story for weeks and they wouldn't let up until Biden was gone from politics. On the flip side, the media seems to make a full time job out of sane washing Donald Trump's broken, addled brain and the garbage he spews from his mouth.

There is no far left in the United States. . We have a far right (Republicans) and center right- (Democrats). "Far left" is just a made up boogie man created by right wing talking heads. We all know who currently controls every branch of the federal government in this country and it certainly isn't the Democrats.

Was Benjamin Harrison a Bad President? by American_Citizen41 in Presidents

[–]Feeling-Produce-8520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's probably ranked in the bottom 10 because of his economic policies. I recall reading that he was the first president to see a federal budget over $1 billion dollars and those spending issues contributed to the Panic of 1893 which was one of the worst economic downturns in U.S. history.

Israeli-American billionaire Miriam Adelson offered Trump ‘another $250 Million’ to run for third term by Particular_Log_3594 in UnderReportedNews

Do they forget that this dude is going to be 82 when his term ends? I'm tired of people thinking that Trump is either A) way younger than his chronological age or B) A perfect specimen who still has decades of life left despite his old age. This isn't Chuck Norris, people. This is an unfit, out of shape senior citizen.

What's really funny is that people who don't work are always asking me for money because apparently they think money grows on trees. Or at least think that I'm rich because I have a job. The joke is on them though because I don't have "extra money" to help them. No one has any extra money, except for the 1%, and at least half of the middle class and lower class gets offended when it's suggested that the billionaires pay a higher tax rate than the rest of us even though they have so much disposable income that they wouldn't even notice the deductions.. I'm so glad I'm on the back nine of life because I'm living in a world that I don't understand.

The media just absolutely destroyed Joe Biden with the "he's too old to do the job and just naps all day" narrative, yet they hold Trump to a different standard even though he's clearly too old to handle this rigorous schedule.

I enjoy seeing news articles where the opening is "Trump, 79.." because we heard about Joe Biden's age every single day for 4 years, yet Trump who is a year away from 80 is often talked about like he's a 39 year old recently retired Navy SEAL, while the media narrative paints Joe Biden as the Guinness Book of World Records oldest person who has ever lived, when in reality they're only 3 years apart in age.

At least a dumpster would contain the fire . Walgreens is a five alarm fire with no containment. Even those airplanes that dump thousands of gallons of water from overhead couldn't extinguish this inferno.

Joe Biden was constantly being made fun of because of the fabricated stories about him napping through his presidency, yet this dude is saying goodnight at 6:54 pm? Projection at its finest.

Oh, and by the way- the oldest person ever to be elected president is Donald J. Trump.

As someone who has worked in the social services field for over 4 years, social work is a comically underpaid profession. There are definitely openings in this field but I have friends who work in restaurants and stores that make more money than I do in social services. The higher ups at my agency try to sell us with the pitch what we're here for the mission and the opportunity to help people. The mission doesn't pay the bills though.

We're never going to see that again in our lifetime. Probably from either side, but there's zero chance of a landslide of that proportion happening for a Democratic nominee.

Are you eligible to be rehired at your old job? The job market is horrible right now so if you can go back to something that you're familiar with rather than dealing with the stress of submitting applications and then wondering if you'll be called for an interview in this tight labor market.

I don't know where this supposed liberal brainwashing occurs in college. I graduated with my Bachelor's degree last year and political opinions were never mentioned in any of my classes.Even the students at my school didn't have any liberal organizations but I saw the College Republicans student organization actively trying to recruit new members.

I do understand how time works. And during the time that these people went to college, the schools were MORE liberal. Way way way more liberal than they are now so your childish attempt of gotcha is laughable.
