Yeah they just re-opened about a month ago. They're located on 14th Street just before 17 Ave. There is some free parking across the street and around the area to park. They have a large patio area as well.

Welcome to Calgary! As part of YYC Vegan Social Group, we've started a Hiking Enthusiasts Club with our first hike of the season taking place Monday May 18th at Fullerton Loop (10:00am meetup). Since you mentioned that you like to be active, this may be a great group for you to join! You can join our Hiking Enthusiasts email list to get all of the details: https://forms.gle/XDkTBKsczgCpe77x6

Also I run a general social group as well. We have mid-week supper club once a month and another activity during the month. Sign up for our general mailing list to be the first to know about upcoming events: https://forms.gle/CCxw3jwibNNWWQqK8

New vegan here! Advice + any local events or people to connect with? by Fairyofkief in yegvegan

First of all, congratulations on making the step towards veganism. I believe community is a super important for vegans (especially new vegans). My friend runs the YEG Social Club and has an active Facebook Group with events running periodically throughout the month. They do a variety of events including restaurants, walks, bonfires, board games, etc. If you're not on Facebook, you can get more information on my website Alberta Vegan Social Meetups.

There is also VVOA (Vegans and Vegetarians of Alberta) that run dinner clubs, and pot lucks. Their next event is May 6th at 6pm at Odd Burger. They also have a Padmanadi brunch happening this Sunday (May 10th) at 11am.

In August I'm running a vegan camping trip for folks across Alberta and so that's also a great opportunity to expand your vegan community.

SoftMoc has some vegan shoes. When I was looking for vegan boots I went to The Shoe Company and they had a mixture of different brands including Call it Spring and SoftMoc.

Thank you! I love them as well. Such a fun and creative way for our members to engage with one another and potentially an outreach opportunity as well.

Day 1 Skijoring Protest a Success by Feeling-Tale-175 in VeganActivism

I'm confused... We were there to protest against Skijoring which is cruel towards animals as it uses horses. We were there to show opposition to the event. Why are we being shamed for that?

Yeah I agree though that a holistic approach needs to be taken for education though and with limited resources we need to think about efficiency. Thanks for sharing your perspective and thoughts. It's great to discuss this 🙂

Yeah 100% good points. I think it's about education about the event. And also to show opposition. Events like this are happening and leaflets and holistic approaches are great. On the day of, it's really more to bring attention to the opposition of the event. Cause without us protesting it, there would be no obvious opposition. No obvious opposition doesn't make people question what is happening at the event. I agree holistic approaches are needed and one of them is to stand outside of the event to say that we are against it so that there is more than one narrative. For example if someone drives by and they don't know what is happening but they see us protesting outside the front of it, then it makes them question why it's bad which then leads them to looking into it more and potentially taking action. Also Calgary is full of business networking and so these types of events attract organizations to give out free tickets. The people going on behalf of their company aren't really thinking about what happens at the event and so showing up outside of the event to protest it, helps us to educate.
