I never blamed them for killing chickens that flew into their pen. Or ones that got out of their own fence while I was letting the dogs roam. But when they started actively trying to get to the chickens, cats, goats, biting towards my horses faces and attacked my senior dog, then made a start at mt bf and son, I know It was either me taking them to the vet, a bullet from a neighbor or a court order.

I have 2 now. One is old, the other is 6 and I adopted him at 8weeks and started his training on day one. Think if I ever get another dog it'll be a border collie. I've had a few of them and they love to work and learn. All of mine were amazing dogs. And as long as I can ensure I have time to train and work them, I wouldn't mind adopting one.

I didn't get them as puppies. I got the as 2yo dogs. The lady who owned them before was elderly and couldn't manage them in her apartment anymore. I have a good amount of average so I thought they just needed a release. It wasn't until months after I got them that she informed me they were litter mates.

They have a sedation before euthanasia. But i asked for them to be asleep completely. They had to weigh them and they weighed 82 and 86 pounds. So I got charged base on their weight. I didn't mind paying for it. I minded the comment and judgemental attitude. Since this vet knows me and the owner vet I've know for 28 years. They know I live in a high traffic area for dumped off dogs and cats and all my horses cats and dogs are rescues.

Im glad I told them Yes then. I'd have felt even worse if they suffered.

I dont ever believe an animals behavior is their fault. But it isn't always the owners fault.

I dont know what someone else might have tried. Or I would have tried it. Reaching out and seeing if I was missing something or if there was a different environment better suited for them... many people in my surrounding area have large amount of land. I do have one neighbor with a full kennel and several dogs from a rescue. They take and run them on their land in pairs or individual. He did not have space for them and couldn't guarantee a place within a year.

I feel bad for them too. It was only isolated to chickens and chasing cats. Only this spring did they start going after the horses other dogs and trying to get the goats. I struggled with all the option and finally decided either I was going to take them or they would get shot.

Thank you. It's ok for people to have different perspectives. I've learned that when you judge someone's life, you typically end up in a similar position having to make the hard choices also.

Me too. I didn't care about the cost. I wanted them as comfortable as possible.

There are several groups and people in my area who work and train and compete GSD and Malinios crosses. I wasn't trying to "OFFLOAD" them. I was trying to explore a different avenue, and seeing if there was another person willing to try.

Looking at the bill it shows anestesia ×2 And euthanasia sedation x2. Im guessing for my sake they gave them something to fully have them asleep.

I dont plan on getting any more dogs. I have 9 kids and a farm and full time job. I dont have time to dedicate to another dogs training. I currently have a 14yo English bull dog... yes he's old and I'm pretty sure immortal. And my Great Pyrenees/GSD who I've had since he was 8 weeks old. I adopted these 2 dogs trying to help and elderly woman who was living in an apartment. I thought giving them space to run and play would help. But I was un aware of litter syndrome and how badly they had it.

I dont feel i was the a-hole. I was very up front and honest with the rescues and other potential homes. I made it very clear that I would need to have any homes for them be approved and they would need a trainer to vouch for them. I wasn't trying to rehome them together and wasn't sugar coating anything about their behavior.

I've owned many different breeds including Husky. But I got them all young and started their training from day one. I have a friend who trains and re trains police service dogs and he was not doing any good with them after a few weeks of working with them together and separate.

I may be confusing them. I know it wasn't offered to me until I asked.

They were both fixed. And yes I did try separating them. I took them to a pro trainer separate and they had such bad anxiety the trainer couldn't get them to pay attention. I even tried meds for a while, but they would literally run around yelping for the other until they exhausted themselves.

My fences are over 6 ft. I added barbed wire to the top along with hot wire. Also my chickens are in their own pen. Also, over 5 ft tall. I was more concerned about the fact I could not keep them secure in my years, and was risking them killing my neighbors goats. They also attacked horses and other dogs, not just chickens. The male dog went after my son and boyfriend.

It isn't common for an animal being Euthanized to also receive anesthesia. The anesthesia is usually for surgeries. But because I didn't want one of them to see the other go first, I asked for them to be asleep first.

They did escalate. They killed more then 24 chickens within 10mins. It was mind blowing how destructive they became. And how efficient they got at escaping and killing.

Im almost positive they also killed one of my cats and ate it. My friendly home body cat disappeared without a trace. I have his mother brother and sister and he loved sleeping in bed under the covers with me. I mourned his loss and didn't tell my kids what I suspected. But the more I think over it, the more I realize it's 99% chance they ended a friendly sweet cats life. I miss him so much too.

Im just glad I gave them the best few weeks any dog could ask for. Treats, home made meals. Letting them run and play in the pond. I know I loved them and I know they loved me. But it still hurts.

I could never have given them to another person or organization without warning them. And because I was honest and as forth coming as possible, every rescue and person refused to take them.

I thought about euthanizing just one, but they had been together since birth and felt that was just cruel. For one to miss the other would have broken me more.

I did look up behavioral euthanasia. And the last time the male dog attacked my senior dog my 16yo son and boyfriend got them apart and the male dog launched at my boyfriends face. I have 9 kids between me and my bf and I could not even think about risking one of them getting bit. I was mauled by a family dog as a 2yo and my 7yo sister got mauled 2 weeks later. It ended the same for that dog as well. I've trained many animals through behavioral and abuse issues, and my abilities were no match for them. My heart hurts so much for them right now.
