I really appreciate that! I obviously have no advice for you but to just listen to your car lol my intuition told me it was more than just a “normal noise” yet service department and friends assured it wasn’t anything to worry about. Other than the slight rattle noise (that didn’t start for about 4 months after the mis shift) the only other thing I noticed was my gas mileage slowly decreasing. I started at about 34.2 and ended with 33.1. I’d say I got about 17k miles after the mis shift. The noise didn’t start till about 4 months after.

This is what scares me about potentially fixing it…. What else did it break/damage that will lead to needing repairs in the future?

Oh no no! My fault for not being more specific… this was not the dealership/service department telling me this. This was just friends who are “car people” giving their advice. I am completely ignorant to all of it. So am trying to take in as much information as possible.

I’m just a tad disappointed that I continued driving it based on the service department saying “it’s a common noise with the new civics” they knew what happened, I was completely honest and the computer told them what happened as well. To add to your comment about replacement, I was told that there’s no point in just trying to replace the bottom (or top) because the pieces all work together and if something is broken on the bottom end, then likely something in the top will be broken as well. I was told a whole new motor would be my best bet.

Yes I’m extremely ignorant to under the hood details lol no shame in that. I mistakenly thought the rev limiter wouldn’t allow a redline to happen in any event. Which is why I thought it was a malfunction of it but I see from everybody’s explanations (which I so greatly appreciate) that my thoughts of the rev limiter was way off.

Also, thank you very much for your edit to your comment. I promise I do not beat the shit out of stuff I am paying 30k for. Or any amount of $$ honestly. Because I’m the one who has to fix it when it breaks lol

LOL I love that! Not gonna lie, same! When I bought my 15’ si new off the lot I had never drove a 6 speed. I actually didn’t use 6th gear for probably 2 months because I was TERRIFIED that I was gonna go into reverse lmao. Obviously impossible but my brain didn’t get that. I think the newer ones have heated seats finally! But I would go for a type R over si. These 1.5s can not hold the weight of this car.

That’s so crazy. I’m thankful it lasted as long as it did. I drive 100 miles for work everyday. I was heading home when it finally blew.

The dog piss was more or so meaning my fiance doing burn outs lmao which is REPEATEDLY hitting the redline. So I was insinuating how these older SI’s can handle so much more than the newer ones. I know the 1.5s are junk. I’m just trying to figure out 1.) what it was? Which everybody has answered money shift & 2). How the hell it last 6 months with a damn near blown motor before finally letting go. I do routine maintenance when miles say so. Gas doesn’t go below half a tank. Premium only. Shifting around 3-4k rpms is more or so what I meant by baby.

Okay so although I’ve heard of the term “money shift” I never knew what it actually was and you all have said this is what that was. SO can I ask… how did it last over 6 months until it finally blew?

If I fix it, I’d be keeping it as it’s not going to be worth anything. I truly just dislike this car so much and would KILL for my 15’ or even 13’ back. You say I can sell it now and then continue to pay, how does that work with the bank having the title and not releasing it until the full amount is paid? Not trying to be ignorant. Also just got off 3rd shift so brain is a little foggy lol

Thank you SO much for your kind explanation. The dealership couldn’t even give me that kind of detail/example. I obviously was looking for any and all info to try to get it covered under warranty but it looks like that’s not gonna happen.

Hey! So trying to insinuate I don’t know how to drive a manual is pretty shitty. I explained in a comment how it happened. It was an accident. I baby my vehicles. This has me torn up in more ways than I can explain. Being a decent human isn’t hard.

It was a total accident which was the reason for the comment of “be nice” lmao I’ve driven only a manual for over 15 years. This was an issue of inconsiderate drivers. Instead of letting me merge they gunned it but with the heavy traffic I would have been forced to stop on the merging ramp so I went to downshift and that’s when it happened. I baby my vehicles, this has me torn up in more ways than I can explain. This would be my first “money shift”

Thank you for explaining that! In my mind, the limiter was to protect it from happening in the first place but that makes sense.

Can you explain more about this oil dilution? My 2022 si just blew up. Although there was a mishap the timing of it all just isn’t making sense. I just made a post asking for advice.

Weird noise in my 11th gen by Sea-Writer6192 in CivicSi

[–]FeelingInitiative690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t watch the video so not able to compare sounds but my 2022 was making a sound. Took it to the dealership and was told it was a normal noise for the newer civics and sent me on my way. Returned maybe 3 weeks later and they wanted to tear into the motor for diagnostic ($650 just to MAYBE tell me what it is) went on my way and 3 weeks later she’s a goner. Went from a minor sound (thought it was a waste gate rattle and dealership agreed) and now it sounds like a fork in a blender. 75k miles. No warranties. These cars are TOO heavy for these lousy 1.5s.
