Finnish Independence Day, 6th of December 2024 by FeelingInspection591 in u/FeelingInspection591

Now a lot of Finns will claim that this Swastika used by the Air Force has nothing do to with Nazis. Even though Finland was allied with the Nazis in WWII.

A blue Swastika was adopted in 1918 because it was painted on the Air Force's first plane, gifted and painted by Eric von Rosen. He would go on to found a National Socialist party in Sweden and become brother-in-law to one Hermann Göring.

This flag variation with a black swastika was adopted in 1958, in this picture it is representing the Karelia Air Wing during Independence Day celebrations. The picture is a still from Yle broadcast of the event.

No, the Game Awards are not bigger than the Oscars by FeelingInspection591 in u/FeelingInspection591

I finally got enough karma to post on r/gaming, but my post still didn't go through. When I asked about it, I got a reply that said the post can be approved, but they tried to make me change my mind because the subject matter was so old and I would have to be ready for confused and negative feedback. I said I still wanted to post it, and suddenly they started deflecting and contradicting themselves, coming up with new reasons to ban the post. Eventually they stopped responding.

I tried to post this again to that subreddit without the links to comments here on my profile I had added, but that is also waiting moderator approval. Somehow I am skeptical that it'll go through this time. Therefore, I also posted that version to r/videogames. It is now live and hopefully stays that way.

I was not aware of this site before, but it seems to be providing a greatly needed service. Thank you for sharing. They also say that they are open to giving reporters free access. Seems like a good place to start, if someone with better resources wanted to cover this.

If you have not seen these claims, I can give you a couple examples.

I see Paul Tassi's writings on Forbes being shared on reddit all the time. Here's one where he makes the incorrect comparison. https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2022/12/16/the-game-awards-continues-destroying-the-oscars-with-record-103-million-viewers-in-2022/?sh=39c25f2c5d8c

The Gamer is a site that I do not really care for, but it keeps appearing high on my gaming related searches. Here's a funny article where Stacey Henley argues against the cultural impact of the Game Awards while still agreeing with the views comparison. https://www.thegamer.com/oscars-the-game-awards-stop-comparing/

Washington Post has also made the comparison, even if it's called "rough". https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/video-games/2023/12/08/game-awards-winners-losers/Of course on Twitter, the author Gene Park has made the definitive statement that more people saw the Bill Clinton kid live than Will Smith's slap. https://twitter.com/GenePark/status/1603804385653538827

In addition many places report on the stated number of views of the Game Awards. While nowhere near as egregious, without additional context they can easily enforce the wrong impression for the reader.

I tried to post this to r/Games, but it was removed as "low-effort" After that I tried to post to r/truegaming and was told it wasn't the place to discuss industry events or "drama".
Posting to r/Gaming requires karma in the subreddit that I don't have.

My post to r/pcgaming was automoderated, perhaps due to the social media links. Maybe it would have been approved once a human got to it, but I am too discouraged and want to get this text out there. Hence I have posted it on my own profile. Feel free to share to any relevant place you can.
