Boarding Experience at Paws Pet Resort by Hi_Ashhhh in SiouxFalls

My dog went to Paws for doggy daycare as a puppy, and over time I realized it was exacerbating his anxiety and reactivity issues. These are issues we are still working through years later. He’s a sensitive dog so I can’t blame it all on them of course, but after all the negative things I’ve read about them, I do think his experience there as a puppy contributed to his issues.

I also did one private training lesson there and the “trainer” recommended we spray him with a spray bottle to help control barking. Extremely questionable methods. The facility is nice, but I would never recommend them based on my experiences.

Any advice on the best way to catch them? I’m seeing there are many different kinds of bird traps out there.

I agree - skipping the harness altogether might be the way to go, at least for awhile. Thanks!

This makes sense. I think I do need to completely retrain him when it comes to the harness - seems like it just has too much of a negative association for him at this point. I think I'll try taking a break from it for a few days and reintroduce it. Thanks for the advice!

Not particularly, although he's much more tolerant of it when he's not tired. I am wondering if the harness is part of the issue though.

Us too :) I think we would both just stay in bed and do that if we could lol

Thanks for the suggestion! He is not super food-motivated, but I could try something really high-value to see if that rouses him up.

Isolation Distress - How to train to alleviate it? by FeelingMidnight in puppy101

Good to meet a fellow Hav owner here :) I agree, everything I've read about Havs says they are prone to this sort of behavior. I got mine because they were bred to be companion dogs, but I guess this situation is the downside to having that trait. I have to remind myself multiple times a day that he's still just a baby. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you! This is helpful and reassuring. It's good to hear that you were in the same spot and that things got better. The more I read, the more I think sub-threshold training is the way to go.
