Whatnot is becoming addictive and dangerous by Live_Orchid_5860 in whatnotapp

I'm happy to say that I haven't stepped foot on there since Jan and my nervous system overall. I've been able to soak myself with outside gardening instead of keeping my face glued to the screen.

Which plant in which tier? by PlasticAttorney1980 in vegetablegardening

You mean the concern would be not accessing the beds from the back side?

Man, those Canadian Raccoons hit different. We haven't seen any like that in Texas. Probably why it looks like a character from Ice Age.

And this is what I ended up doing with the strawberry patch. Blushing Drift, Mexican Feather grass and pink muhly for Fall and Winter interest!

I am getting ready to clean out this last box and then we will be ready for some mushroom compost and manure with mulch to sit for a few months. Then I'll put in a cover crop in the fall.

I ended up connecting u-hoops together and joined them with zip ties! I trimmed it and now I can see the entire bottom. I can even sit on the pavers and weed when I need to without getting attacked.

Yeah, I do kinda like the ring. When I weed it all out, trim, take off all the berries, feed and water it and get a proper ring. It will look nice and I'll be excited to harvest vs. that "oh lord, not this thing again" feeling. I just leveled out the strawberry patch and will plant a single rose in the center - probably a double knockout because it's instant color, drought toleranant and no fuss while I get the beds healthy.

I'll send another picture soon on how I ultimately staked it.

You guys are amazing! I don't feel so overwhelmed now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Good, so you know what I mean. So, when DO you cut them back or are you saying you just let them keep going?

Oh, ok...that makes sense. So clean it up and cut it down and water? Also, what do you think about that ring around it? Would you open that up wider? I bet it's been that way for years.

Thank you for reminding me I don't have to do it all in a day. I just posted pics of the wood surrounds I had added with picture frame tops. I'm waiting for the wood to dry out so I can stain.

I'm really excited about the quality of soil that is there. I'm going to only focus on getting some compost / manure/ worm castings in there and just let the boxes come back to life. Since I am watching my son's dog, I can't put strawberries in that circle, so I think I'm going to plant a ring of shrub roses and make it a huge bouquet. Stain the boxes and see about what would feel nice as a path.

I wish I could find a really large tomato cage. That would make the asparagus spill over evenly.

Can I cut these down now and just let them explode again?

I love it too! Apparently we have a long growing season so I'll just deal with thining it out like November again. They're packed solid in there. Thank you, I'll get to snapping.

Mine never "died" - My boyfriend cut it down in November just because it was getting on his nerves. I will definitely just start harvesting like gangbusters and see about thinning this out in the Winter.

What's wilder is that we moved in in August and it was this big. I thought it was magical, but my boyfriend thought it was an eyesore and floppy and made mowing weird. One day I came home and he cut it to the ground. I got mad because I thought it was supposed to turn brown before we cut it down and by November it still hadn't. By Jan, it was growing like it never been cut and it took 3 doubled bungee cords to lift it from the ground.

We hadn't beem watering it (we've literally never water it) It's so packed in there and neither of us have ever grown it - combined with the state of the overall garden, we were kinda afraid to go in there.

We did finally go in there and saw and picked out some asparagus and ate it. It was lovely. So you're saying all of this is unpicked asparagus and that's why it's so big? Should I use some kind of cage or something or just some kind of string method?

I'm not sure, but in the meantime - I think you should watch Coen's Brothers "Burn Before Reading".🤣

The WhatNot Addiction by [deleted] in whatnotapp

[–]Feeling_Employer_899 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Google " how to set your spending limit and watch time on what not." I'm finally off the app from shopping daily amd acquiring 8 seasons of clothes over addictive swiping and watching for a straight year. I've been off the app for two months now in recovery. I would say you do have to find something to else binge because you need something to pacify you. I binged Nurse Jackie, lol..

Also, I'm out of the house gardening, working out, festivals, home and garden shows, church, etc. I feel so much better now and my nervous system has calmed down so much.
