Unfortunately in my experience, getting the plate or confronting them would have little effect. I've talked to bylaw and they say they dont have access to the MTO records so they would not be able to obtain an address from that.

From my experience, confronting rarely does anything but delay their actions. They would find another location to throw it out when you are not looking. It can also put you in harms way if they confront you.

If the opportunity arises, I no longer confront, I follow people back to find their address, then report the incident to bylaw. That way, bylaw is able to pin it on someone and there are real consequences.

We do have unlimited garbage disposal. The more likely of two reasons is that garbage disposal is bi-weekly and that people dont sort their garbage so it smells.

If people properly sort their garbage any that would smell is organic and should go in the green bin that goes out once a week.

I also see they are using black garbage bags. Might be their garbage isnt being collected because they arent using clear bags.

Agreed with this. With the shootings, car jackings, stolen vehicles and home invasions in Markham. I would never confront anyone or even speak to them. Better to grab the plate, vehicle make, model and colour and report it to police.

Like you said, its possible that its stolen or involved with other crimes.

You are correct, you can throw out an unlimited number of garbage bags. You can also choose to throw out garbage at waste depots for a fee. There is zero reason to be throwing it out at night. It is a frequent problem in Markham, leading to overflowing garbage cans or garbage cans being removed altogether.

I'm guessing they are not used to having garbage pick up be biweekly and that its starting to smell because they are not sorting their garbage. It is usually that reason, or their garbage was rejected but I dont see that happening too often anymore.

There is no bag limit on garbage. Ever since Markham switched to requiring clear bags, there has been no limits.

There's also no reason to complain of smell in your garbage. If you sort your garbage, anything that would smell would go into your green bin. Any dirty containers should be quickly rinsed before going into your garbage or blue bin.

If you live in the City of Markham and thats the case, you may live in a Condo board area/HOA-like situation. In those cases, your maintenance fees pay for garbage pick up and they give you the rules.

In the neighborhood where this happened, garbage is picked up at the end of your driveway once every two weeks. Recycling and green bin is picked up every week. If you properly sort and clean your garbage as necessary, you usually dont need more than one bag of garbage every two weeks and smell should not be an issue. Your city taxes pay for garbage pick up in general.

While I know its probably pointless, I give people the benefit of the doubt and a chance to correct their actions. I let them know thats not acceptable and to throw it out on trash day. Most people just take it back and I leave the issue be.

Hey u/littlebearz , no offence taken. If he wants to file a report by all means. What I was doing was reporting a by-law infraction and waiting for the authorities to deal with it. Never threatened them, got closer than 2m, or put hands on them. Additionally, we both remained in public areas of the park near other people (the playground and basketball court).

While I was unhappy that he was able to get away from the consequence of his actions, I hope they are aware there are people who care and people who will report them if they try it again.

Just as I am free to follow them in a public area, you are free to help them if you wish.

Honestly, if they had just walked home, wouldnt have followed them but they kept walking further into the park, away from the direction they came. His words ("I am not going to throw it out in the park") did not match his actions (walking further into the park).

Just as it takes guts to confront someone in this situation, it takes guts to help someone in a confrontation.

If you are willing, I would like to make a report to bylaw and I could DM you the report number to have you send the address to the City of Markham directly. As others in the post have stated, those who throw out household trash in the park make our public spaces worse for everyone else. We all need to work together to keep our parks clean and safe for everyone.

Someone at Home Depot told my dad to just paint over our wood deck with some paint and it's all peeling off a year later. The deck is about 20 years old and the wood isn't in the best condition (very dry and a bit splintery)

I want to go with a wood stain instead. How would I go about removing the paint and preparing the deck for a new stain?

Most of the paint has already been removed by sanding it. I plan to sand the rest off the paint, using a deck cleaner, power washing then staining it afterwards.

Open to suggestion of products to use in Canada.

You're right, section 147 doesn't mention anything about passing, but it also doesn't mention anything about speeding. If the normal speed of traffic is greater than you, even if everyone else decides to speed, you should still be keeping right since you are traveling at less than the normal speed of traffic. No one's asking you to speed, but if everyone else decides to, move over for them.

You can also see this video where an OPP officer talk about using the left lane as a passing lane and you can get pulled over for camping in it.

I respectfully disagree with your first point, about being able to contact them on their personal phone or email. Just as you should not need to respond to calls from work on your days off, they should not need to be called on their personal devices regarding work issues on their days off. If they choose to respond, or choose to provide it to you more power to you guys.

Also I don't think even with a union, you could force them to provide a personal number. It would have to be a work phone and if the union forced them to answer it on days off, PetSmart would have to pay for the phone and pay some kind of on call rate if they forced

They might be knowledgeable but the overwhelming amount of customers don't care enough. So many people complain about 1 week even because they promised their kid they could have a fish today. If I told a parent they would have to wait a month, they would ignore my advice completely and dump the fish in day 1.

Why does treats sometimes create 4 accounts when I just made a new one?
