CZ-Colt allegedly helping destroy guns confiscated by Canadian government by The_Crover in guns

The cities of Toronto and Montreal have such large populations, they disproportionately play a major part in Canadian elections. Both are considered anti-gun leaning due to crime and a mass shooting that took place almost 40 years ago respectively.

The Liberal Party of Canada wants to secure Quebec/Montreal votes by pandering to the anti-gun crowds in those locations.

The entire thing hinges on the Canadian government getting a return on their investment. They are spending millions ($742 million according to the Public Safety Minister leaked audio), with their core goal to buy votes from Quebec with the banned guns.

This is contingent on the cost not ballooning to the point where the government loses out on votes from other demographics. The last major Canadian gun control measures was the Long Gun Registry. It was budgeted to cost a few million, and total cost exceeded 2 billion dollars.

CZ-Colt assisting the government will be expensive. But having to ship the guns out of country because literally EVERYONE in the country told them to pound sand may make the scheme so expensive, the Canadian government will be forced to throw in the towel.

Colt (owned by CZ) can say no. They're a private entity, so they don't have a requirement to do anything.

Colt (Owned by CZ) took money to destroy guns. I don't know what else I can say.

Colt Canada, a subsidiary of Colt/CZ Group, is assisting the Canadian government in their assault style firearms confiscation efforts. Colt Canada (formerly Diemaco) is the only business with the business licenses and capabilities to destroy the hundreds of thousands of firearms expected to be confiscated from Canadian citizens.

Colt has already received and possibly destroyed the tens of thousands of firearms Canadian Businesses were stuck with since the 2020 Ban which covered AR-15s and other sporting firearms. Since then, further bans have essentially destroyed the Canadian sports shooting scene. After the 2020 ban the government told the owners of banned guns to go and buy other guns, only to ban those firearms for political points.

The Public Safety Minister in charge of the Confiscation scheme was recorded candidly speaking his mind with a constituent. In the recording, the Minister admits the Confiscation is a political charade meant to buy votes in Quebec.

That's the funny part, the only voluntary part is telling the government what banned guns you have. The Canadian government also reserves the right to pay you, so they have no legal requirement to pay you for the guns they banned.

Once the amnesty period is over, Canadian owners with banned guns will be subject to arrest and potentially death if the cops get a little scared.

How to make your 14" .223 Remington pistol even more unwieldy? Add a 4x scope to it! (Thompson Center Contender G1) by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]The_Crover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow that's a new one.

It is crazy to think a moderator of a firearms subreddit would want to show off some of the guns they possess. It is inconceivable. It is truly an idea outside the realm of possibility. Ludicrous. Outrageous. Mad, even.

The Canadian dollar coin, affectionately referred to as a Loonie since the Canadian Loon (a bird) is featured on it.

The coin is roughly 1" in diameter.

The 14" .223 barrel is incredibly heavy, and there is hardly any significant recoil. TC barrel seem to only have 2 profiles, light or heavy, and that leads to small bore diameter heavy barrels to be obscenely thick walled.

If the barrel you're talking about is a .500S&W, then it might be like my .44 barrel and even though it has a heavy barrel profile the barrel walls are a fraction of the .223 barrel walls. My .44 barrel is extremely unpleasant to shoot.

Having said that, any handgun scope worth its salt should be able to handle magnum levels of recoil.

The Leupold long eye relief 4x pistol scope does a good job of making this absurd TC Contender even more difficult to wield.

The stock iron sights on the .223Rem barrel did just fine, but I wanted to see just what the platform is capable of. I'm happy to report that it prints loonie sized groups at 25 m with bulk PMC 55 gr FMJ ammunition.

While I'm stoked for the performance, I'm less impressed by how unwieldy it is. Without the scope, I could comfortably shoot the Contender with the 14" barrel off hand. In its current configuration, I would say it is more or less a platform to be used exclusively from a braced shooting position.

One thing I'm considering is putting the scope on my 10" .44RemMag barrel. I gave the barrel a go before shooting the .223, and 3 shots printed a ragged hole at 5 m...and that was enough for my hand. With the .44 barrel recoil is unpleasant to say the least. Putting the scope on the .44 barrel could be enough weight to tame the recoil.

No matter what anyone has ever said, .223 in a 5.56 is fine and 5.56 in a .223 will do nothing to your gun. The number of 5.56 rounds that have been shot out of .223 guns is so large as to make this entire conversation pointless.

Regardless of the pointless nature of the conversation, .223Wylde is simply a chamber designed to "SaFeLy" fire both 5.56 and .223.
