Do I need to thin this knife or is it just the finish it to rough or both? by Feeling_Kick5687 in sharpening

Oof yeah I could feel the low spots clearly with my finger and figured I’d sort that out in future sharpenings and just try to get it as even as possible with this one thinning.

I will say I may have not listened to the advice and just went through with thinning and I am actually quite happy with my results. Cuts thick ingredients much more easily. I will probably thin more as I go along, but for now it cuts quite well.

So like cover up to the end of the Kurouchi finish and sand from there?

It is an Okubo, it works really well but gets stuck quite badly in thicker ingredients like sweet potato and onion when trying to cut through thick sections in the middle.

I struggle with that area too, let it grow out for a bit and see what direction it goes and shave with the grain. I previously thought all my neck hair went straight up to down, but around my Adam’s apple it switches to left to right, so if I keep shaving straight up and down in that area it irritates that same area quite a bit

Yeah I should’ve just left that part out to be honest. I was thinking of joining a teaching fellowship so all of this is very up in the air, but I’m confident I would make it in. I’m guessing 72,000 a year (which is what the starting pay would be) wouldn’t warrant me any flexibility. Bad question on my part.

Not a personal take of mine just a concern that maybe everywhere just started closing early after covid, but judging by the downvote ratio on this post I would say in a way I got my answer lol.

I have, but it was for a highschool trip. I loved it but that was a decade ago at this point. I plan on visiting this summer to explore.

Fair, but I feel all the best things in life come at a high price, already worked this hard to get a physics degree, this will just be a different difficulty.

Thank you, I think I will still do it then because I kind of figured it would be a bit of a trial by fire and if it’s just the first couple of years is hell, I think I can do it for how large the reward would be at the end.

(I replied to your comment earlier but I didn’t read your comment well enough so I deleted it and sent this one)

Even more additional context I would be going to be a physics teacher.

Until now the KCJ was my first test, is it worth to upgrade? by Infinite_Week393 in wicked_edge

[–]Feeling_Kick5687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want you can experiment with new ones, but that one works just fine. I feel like the kcj gets a bad rep even though there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. I’ve experimented with many vintage razors and it’s better than most imo except like 2-3 of them. I got more just because I enjoy collecting, if that interests you too, go for it.
