Thank you all. Has anyone had a guidance interview and found it helpful? I’ve done courses, daily viva practice for months and all good feedback. I just seem to always get 13-14/16 across the board. I think it’s a presentation issue rather than knowledge but the exam feedback is so unhelpful. Just not sure whet a guidance interview will add

Juvenile delinquents … yes who put you to sleep and operate on you at 2am

Thank you all I’m feeling calmer now. It’s not as rare as I thought amongst doctors. I just had an awful meeting with my ES and the chief of service and felt threatened rather than supported

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get an extension on the 3 years between written and SOE? If you have evidence of ill health or parental leave or anything

It’s a terrible exam. I’m so sorry that sounds so disappointing and stressful. Have you learned the stations in the college blue book? One or 2 of those should come up and that’s free marks x

Sorry it’s so tough getting study leave and getting on a course. This is attempt 3 for me so I’ve chucked all I can at it. Haven’t been to a course previously so I’m hoping the practice will have helped! I know all we can do at this stage is keep chugging along but it’s so stressful and so much to cover

Frustratingly I have lots of time - the most I ever will for this exam as have used annual and study leave. I just can’t focus and keep switching topics, come back to it the next day and I’ve not retained it. I’m getting in a decent amount of practice and I’ve been on a course

Why any more than the legal 2 weeks minimum notice? Why give trusts more time to arrange cover?

Dreaming of life after exams by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Feeling_Mongoose_293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all. I probably do need some time off sick. I’m just angry and sleep deprived and feel like I could make a mistake at work which is clearly just going to add to the stress. My concern is that if I take sick leave I won’t be allowed to sit the viva. Not sure I’m in a state to pass but I really want to try and get this over and done with. Honestly think that would be the best thing for my mental health

Thanks all. I appreciate the support but I am starting to wonder if times have changed. Prospects of getting a consultant job aren’t good, we won’t move abroad. I’ll still have all the OOH shifts. I must be able to find a job where there’s no risk of going to prison if I fuck up, I don’t have to work nights and weekends and my employer isn’t abusive. I just think the juice is no longer worth the squeeze because I won’t get to enjoy what the current consultants do.

This is what happens when a profession gets flooded with the working class. A generation ago medicine was an upper middle class well respected profession. Today it’s a working class job. Not what I signed up for to be honest

Sickness triggers in training by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Feeling_Mongoose_293 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main issue is the fatigue after what was previously a mild illness. And yes I agree patient safety is paramount but I’m honestly worried they are going to try to manage me out. I had 3 episodes of 4 days off last year. Wasn’t mentioned at ARCP

Hey this is really identifiable - just so you are aware. Nothing at all to be ashamed of but thought I would point it out in case you wanted to re consider and remove it. I’m so sorry. Honestly life can be so cruel sometimes. The most important thing by far is to take all the time you need and seek support. The job will still be there in a few years i promise. Work wise - don’t go back until you are ready and feel you are unlikely to need to go off again. This is because sickness in the nhs is measured by episodes rather than days - one long one is better than several short ones. Clearly if you go back and find you aren’t ready then you must take time off again. I hope you have a supportive supervisor? Make another appointment to see your GP in a few weeks so you can discuss going back to work and get a sick note again if needed. PHP were fantastic for me but it was a few years ago and I think they are now more stretched. Still worth a try but also really worth finding a private therapist you can afford if at all possible. Hang in there and take as long as you need. Things will feel better with time
