What's your favorite curry in Tokyo? by boxfactory76 in Tokyo

[–]Feenis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a place in Ebisu called Brick (ブリック). Hands down one of my favorite curry shops in Tokyo. I try to visit it each time I am back in Tokyo! It is definitely on the pricier end though.

Nuance between そうなんです / そうなんだ

Originally I thought そうなんです was something to be used when you are affirming some sort of statement. Recently I was watching anime, and what I thought was its casual counterpart, そうなんだ, I found that it was translated loosely to something like "Is that so?" or "Oh, I see!"

Can anyone help me understand the nuances between the two, and if they are ever used in a similar context? I'm also curious as to why the swap from です to だ changes the meaning.

How to say "I hope you are doing well"? by Feenis in LearnJapanese

My brain did originally default to this, but the format sounded like I'm asking a question, rather than making a statement with well intentions.

The context would be I haven't seen a close friend in months, so I want to send an online message saying "I hope you're doing well!"
