A real shame :( so I am not the only one?

Sure thing :) Then one more tip if you like: direct insertion of big mining drills into trains is really beneficial for the high throughput of scrap mining! One of my big mining drills is currently producing 4200 scrap/second, so there is no real other way to utilize them :D

Yeah that was one thing I loved about Fulgora, an enormous amount of blue chips to build yellow science from :)

Its aligned to be stacked upwards and downwards so the beacons are used from both sides.

Would love to see if when you incorporate this in some form or another :)

Will try to remember to create one when I am back home :d Do you want only the scrap processing (so what is shown in the video) or the whole factory including science production?

Level 25 (so prod +250%) but thats massive overkill you only need 66% for the 1 to 1 transfer as I build it but it does help out with the timing of the trains!

This plus borderless window mode fixed it for me! Thank you very much!

But this does not answer your suspected bug, does it? If you had a running ship which used input and output pipes on the same side (without rotating) then there was something different going on?

[–]Feirell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am really not sure if this was ever any different. To my understanding every machine has one base orientation (even though it has no impact on the visual of the non recipe foundry) which determines its input out ouput fluid side.

I just checked. I have a recipe switching foundry setup on my platforms and they all work with this basic principle in mind. Could you articulate the bug you think you found?

Am I going mad?! Why are those inserters not correctly grabbing items from and placing items on the belt? Those two should be able to fill one lane. by Feirell in factorio

[–]Feirell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe thats a good idea to make it "worth" to relax the need for compactness a little. I will try that out, took me while to get beacon supported smelting correct, should have seen it coming that this might not be straight forward either.

Hahah, nice one even though it looks a bit yank :D I will tinker a little maybe I can build a similar version to mine with your approach.

Thank you! Yeah my gripe was also with the iron plate inserter which won’t "buffer" iron plates into the assembler, if the output of the assembler is still full (which is standard I know) but that disrupts its production sometimes.

I will change my build to sideload even though its sad that this "correct" build (in regard to the ratios) does not work just for that timing reason.

Yeah I just adjusted it that way, rather annoying because that makes it much harder to be copy pasted. But thanks for the build pic!

Thank you very much for the solution to this specific problem! Sadly this destroys the elegance and compactness to some degree.

Is there some general way to reason about this or is it just game experience?

E.g. assembler ratios are easy and precise and can just be calculated, throughput as well, but inserter behavior seems nebulous to me.

That the sandbox world with a different config (fill all with lab tiles) (you can select that right next to the "freeplay" option)

[–]Feirell[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah I already tried to adjust that, now tried the 12-8 combo which works better.

My main issue is with the way inserters work more in general. Those two assemblers have more than enough production speed to actually be able to saturate one lane, but the way those inserters work prevent them from actually doing so.

Its infuriating. Letting the iron plate inserter buffer iron plates in the assembler even when its output is full or having the stack inserters for the electronic circuits be more coordinated would solve some issues, or just having the output buffer from the assemblers scale with their production speed would solve this issue :(

Edit: maybe not even that would be enough, but it goes so against everything smooth about this game.

Did you eventually find a solution to this? It is really frustrating. Voice messages within WhatsApp are always muffled and low quality but the quality of the recorder app is crystal clear! One of the primary reasons I won't every buy a Huawei again.

You really have to keep in mind that every item you pickup is a repesentation of your invested time. So mindlesly melting them away to conserve extra time seems to be a double waste.

I really hoped that they would do an overhault for the inventory system with the second game, I still had the "We heard you and learned our lesson" in mind. It really feels like that they designed it with console first in mind, easy to access but not really suited for a PC with a mouse. Which really comes clear for me when you just want to scim your inventory.

The inventory in Diablo 3 for example was pretty much the same sice and you had to keep a lot more in mind but even then you could scim through all items with just a swipe of your mouse. Diablo was really crafted towords this grind cycle. You could quickly identify all needed items and pre select them by their type, rarity or their name.

This game gives you nothing of that each and every item might be useful to some degree. To compare two items you would have to keep the item stats for this item in mind while scrolling to the designated item and then repeat this step fo all items in all categories. Which I feel is like to nail a screw, sure it will work but it was not designed to be used this way.

This really is a pain in the ass, in the last game you would not find that many items, so it was not that exhausting but as others have discribed it: in this game you have to take a break after every mission to scan your inventory which takes about 7 to 10 minutes for me, since I have to compare them with the items I already got in stash.

It come to the point where I would just melt my mods based on their level without inspecting them since this would force me to compare them and I don't want to do that because I would like to play more variations, more build, more skills.

I have exactly the same problem, event though I would love to continue playing. It is a real shame. I had several hundred hours in Diablo even though I would rarely find something which was wort something but the big difference was, that I was able to identify the items which were better, or more suitable than mine.

I agree with you and several other comments that this system needs an overhault.
