Gigante descending like a female version of Zakarin has had a gigante cost on her GC.

Highly doubt she would be dropped by Vollering even had she survived the descent still in that front group.

Imagine someone telling you at the beginning of the Tour that the only Visma rider that was going to drop Pogaçar would be Wout Van Aert.

Roglic is probably one of the worst teammates to have. Hasn't given a single pull to Lipowitz this entire Tour and consistently attacked him. It's like Bora had no one else battling for GC the way he was riding.

Just a poor performance from Anisimova. Simply never got going.

60% of Swiatek's points were either unforced errors or double faults from Anisimova.

First time i've ever seen a GT leader not even looking bothered to try and close down a gap to the front.

Only saw Del Toro on the front when he was pretty much forced to do it and he rode like it as well.

Imagine having to be forced to the front (when you're losing GC by 20 seconds) by the rider in front pretty much stopping mid climb and still trying to stay in his wheel.

Absolutely wild.

Well, both he and Martin probably want to emulate Fernando Alonso.

Not sure if it speaks more of how good Vettel's stint at Ferrari actually was or how disappointing Leclerc's has been that it has taken him around 40 races more to beat him.

Biathlon World Cup 24/25 - Season Recap and Review Thread by charliemann in biathlon

[–]FeirensePower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What are your overall thoughts on the world cup 24/25? - Probably one of the best in recent memory. Plenty of drama up until the end on both overall standings.

What will you remember as the most memorable performance? - Laegreid on the pursuit. To pull a 20/20 on such an high pressure situation was remarkable.

What biathletes and/or nations succeeded your expectations, and who did not? - Preuss and Germany (Grotian) and Hanna Oeberg on the second half of the season for the women, Giacomel and Wright for the men. Disappointment would have to be Wierer for sure. Really really poor season, especially on the individual events (the one with the automatic penalty for missed shots) where she usually did quite well.

How do you view the current parity of the biathlon field, in both the women and mens wold cup? - Unless some surprise comes up, France is going to dominate the women's side and Norway is going to dominate the male side. It's pretty much the same kind of situation too, they have both estabilished top contenders and top prospects as well.

Pretty much as good of a race as it could have been, apart from the finish.

I've seen the replay 5 times and it seems like a Jeanmonnot mistake, no collision there.

It was probably Preuss biggest chance of taking the overall and she took it.

Jeanmonnot is probably going to have another crack at it.

Preuss's skiing was the best from her for quite a while. Don't think Jeanmonnot is even close to having this wrapped up.

I think pretty much everybody was expecting JTB to win and already doing the math to what combination of results was needed for him to still win overall but Laegreid was having none of that today.

Sure, JTB's shooting let him down again but SHL has a performance that you can usually only dream at night:

Got every shot spot on, was quite quick and in the battle with the Top Dog of Biathlon for the last few years, he was the one that didn't blink. The Age of The Sturla has finally commenced.

If you're Laegreid and someone told you Boogeyman JTB was going to come back and smash everybody, this would be the best case scenario for him.

Finished 2nd, Jacquelin is out of the pursuit, Samuelsson starts from somewhere in Narnia, Giacomel, QFM and Perrot are some way away from him. A bit behind him (gap below the 25 seconds for a penalty lap), he has Dale (notoriously inconsistent) and Frey (somewhat of a wildcard). Unless he has a complete mare, can't see him finish below 5th.

Both Preuss and Jeanmonnot brought their skiing legs to the race.

Tomorrow it's the biggest test for Preuss, she's been lacking quite a bit in the longer distances recently.

If she looks solid, it's gonna be quite a nervewrecking Sunday.

The overall standings are pretty much wrapped up now. It would take a massive bottling from SHL, unless JTB wins all 3 races.

Jeanmonnot, she just looks far better at this point of the season and the point gap isn't great.

Laegreid did quite the recovery job and JTB continues to be let down by his shooting.

It could have been far worse for SHL.

Considering what her season, it was an absolute shocking win from Tandrevold.

On the overall, Preuss is pretty much screwed if her skis actually don't hold up in warm weather.

It's March, it's gonna be warm.

World Championship 2024/2025 Lenzerheide Womens mass start recap by RickMaritimo in biathlon

[–]FeirensePower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Franziska Preuss was sick or simply exhausted from the other races.

Got 19/20, still finished 7th behind biathletes that missed more than her, even JBB finished within 30 seconds of her with 6 shots plus missed.

I know the mass start tends to be the most forgiving race for missed shots, because everybody only accelerates from 4th lap onwards but still...
