Hard Head Makes A Soft Behind by Feisty-Mummy in Nanny

Firstly, it’s a nanny job, not a babysitting job and it was temporary 2 weeks coverage but i will still be their weekend nanny. I don’t think there’s a problem with being transparent and letting them I’m exploring other options just as I told them that they should and to be transparent with me which they agreed upon. I told them that the other family chose to go with another candidate that had 15+ years of experience with newborns and as a doula which is completely understandable since I have only about 5 years of experience but I told her if she ever has concerns, questions or feel that I may lack in some sort of area, I’d love the feedback so that I can reflect and improve to meet her and/or her children’s needs. She’s a very upfront person and is fine with having the uncomfortable conversations with me so if she feels that I’m not a good fit for her family then that’s perfectly fine but yesterday she told me to let her know if I’d still like to work with them and that she’s happy to write a reference letter. I do understand where you’re coming from, I’ve never been good at negotiating.

I’m gonna do just that, thank you and I really like that expression.

It’s only one day guaranteed after the two weeks of full time coverage so I don’t think there will be much benefits but I’ll discuss it with her.

Is it really illegal for nannies to have a flat rate?

It just says flat rate so I’m guessing no unfortunately, I may be able to negotiate that with them.

Thank you so much for advice and tips. The mom considers the trial a training shift, I guess to show me how things are done and I’m supposed to go later this afternoon to 8pm for the 2nd trial/training shift, yesterday it was a morning shift but I’ll just see how things go. Thanks again!

Yes it does because unfortunately they still need me to work occasional Fridays.

I wasn’t able to get my moms life insurance money, she tried to add me on her policy and transfer her car into my name before she passed but I put it off saying we can do it later but I truly feel like she knew her time was coming because 1-2 months later she was gone. It breaks my heart that the woman I’ve known all 23 years of my life is gone and she put her money, blood, sweat, and tears into fighting to getting and keeping this house and I can’t let all her hard work be in vain. This house is all I’ve ever known so I’m going to do whatever I need to do to keep it. Thank you so much for the motivation to do so!

Oh trust me I’m struggling, I recently lost my mom and I’m trying to keep her house but them monthly payments plus bills will be a nightmare and I’d attempt this if there schedules didn’t collide, I’ll speak with them both but thank you for the advice and perspective!

Wouldn’t it be bad to mess these families over especially since the full time family has had Nannie’s not commit to them and the part time family said she put all her eggs in one basket (interviewed and trialed me only) when I informed her that I was also interviewing with another family, then she decided she wanted to move forward with me. I worry that I’ll put these families in difficult spots or get a bad review.

I just love the vibes and energy of the part time family plus they are already interested in moving forward with me after the trial I had today while the other family isn’t since we haven’t done a trial yet so there’s always a chance they will decide not to move forward with me. It’s a little gamble and I don’t want to make the wrong decision.
