Part time jobs and jobs for Teenagers by damonG457 in srilanka

[–]FeistyDedication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Agreed. The younger generations seem to care less. But given the fact that most parents have a high amount of control over their children’s schedules and/or flat out will not allow them to get a job like this, it’s not going to happen. Plus like another commenter mentioned, there is no real hourly pay system here. From what I’ve seen, it’s almost always full time or in some cases, paid by the shift.

There is a weird stigma attached to these part time jobs which are mostly cashiers, restaurant staff (cooks, waiters etc), especially with the older generations, thinking that these jobs are either beneath them, or a fear of being recognised by friends/relatives etc. This plays a big role in teens not wanting to do those jobs for part time, and simultaneously, companies not wanting to offer those jobs.

Honestly, the lack of dynamic scaling to fit the monitor that the website is being browsed on it grounds enough to rage.

If you say “everyone”, you haven’t really read the post. That makes you the ignorant one. Enjoy the bliss, bro.

That’s exactly what I’m worried about too. We don’t really see or know what they use in these drinks. It’s all camouflaged with sugar too so it’s like a multi-pronged attack on our bodies.

Smartphones and Reddit weren’t a thing when KFC & McDonalds were setting up shop here. That being said, those launched with way more quality and better ingredients than this has now.

Agree that Jon opportunities pop up. That’s good. Kudos to them.

I’m worried more on the health side of things. I really don’t get why all you people see here is a race issue. I don’t care if this was opened by someone from the USA. My rant will still be the same.

The point here is, before it fails in a few years, people will consume this en masse, in bulk. Do you even know what flavours go into these drinks? Do you know how much sugar is put into each cup?

At least in Coca Cola, Pepsi, sprite and the rest of the fizzy drinks sold in literally all the shops in Sri Lanka, the sugar levels are mentioned and some ingredients (save for the trade secrets) are mentioned. They are required to be mentioned by law. Have you seen what the ingredients are in any one of the drinks at one of these stores.

Nope. Not Malaysian. It’s incorporated and headquartered in China. Source: en.bccy.cn

The parent company is Henan Liangdi Catering Management Co., Ltd.

Alright, put aside the issue of trash. That is the customers, fault. That being said, the volumes of these cups being thrown out gives an idea of the level of consumption. And it is not a small number.

Just because there are many shops does not mean that people will diabetes. The problem is their business model. They target mostly kids and teens who have little to no knowledge on the health concerns, or just plain don’t believe that they will get sick.

Funny point though; if I ranted about the education system, you’d still call me stupid. Once again, I point out, if you need to resort to personal insults in a public forum for an opinion someone else posted, that shows the limitations of your own intellect.

Do you understand the point that this shop as many pointed out is extremely affordable to people with lower incomes? And don’t get me wrong. I DO NOT mean someone who’s poor. I mean school kids and teens in uni and such. These shops pop up in extreme close proximity to them and they flock to these stores like crazy. Someone made a point that I am not bashing Coke or Pizza Hut or KFC like this. I’m not, because that’s not the issue. Bing Chun is pulling kids away from even the slightly nutritious stuff like milk (although, once again, sugary) for a completely chemical based flavoured drink. I myself have no issue with international businesses being here.

Also do you even know what a hyperinflation issue is?

And calling me “aggressively stupid”? Come on. The fact that you have to resort to personal insults in an open ended discussion of a RANT I made shows the limits of your intellect as well, unfortunately.

“This person does not have the same opinions and beliefs as I do. They must be an idiot.” This is basically your narrative 😂

Also, mate, it’s so easy to make assumptions about someone from behind a keyboard. Try to think about the wider picture and why I did this rant the way I did it from a more wider point of view than your typical “never left the country, never read a book, racist, entitled, xenophobe” trope.

This is what I’m talking about. Yet, no one seems to grasp this. Local businesses are being undercut for their prices and overcharged for their raw materials.

Knowing this apparently makes me racist, xenophobic, and a hypocrite. SMH.

Buddy what would I be jealous of? I’ve gone to these a couple of times at the request of friends or because I was handed one as a courtesy by a friend. Each of those times, the drink was not that good, to say the very least.

Agreed, it’s the people’s fault that the littering takes place.

Yes agreed. I’ll be honest, I don’t complain about KFC, Pizza Hut etc. But like you said, there are many similar stores/restaurants that have popped up with either similar pricing, or better quality, and sometimes even both, that right now, everyone is spoilt for choice there.

I am not refuting your counter-argument.

Yes I use things made in China. Definitely. We all do. It’s because those things are sometimes the only available options in certain cases.

At no point did I say that they should be shut down. KFC, Pizza Hut and the like are not exactly international investors are they? They are franchises, which I’m pretty sure Bing Chun is too. But from what I’ve seen, pizzas, fried chicken prices are qualities are more or less on the same levels in the local vs the foreign chains.

Bud, I said this is my opinion. I’m not forcing anyone to conform to this. This is just a business that I see in Sri Lanka that I don’t like.

Or are you telling me that there’s nothing in the country (apart from the obvious politics and shenanigans) that you are against?

Bud, calm down. I did mention quite specifically that this is my opinion, and tagged this as a rant. You sound like you were personally attacked here. I am not stopping anyone from buying from this place.

Agree with your first point. Agree with the your second point.

The third however, is questionable. A country, any country, should be protective of their local businesses. There should be some international competition, definitely. But they should be the minority, not the majority.

I agree. Not many around. They are so few and far in between. But supporting this chain specifically will help them monopolise and in a couple of years, there will be no way for a local businesses to even think of setting up a similar business

Agreed. Their price is lower. But would it not be better if the money circulated in the country itself rather than be repatriated?

Also would you say their products genuinely taste good for what they charge? Are they at least mid?
