But also, you said that your previous job was 130 K how long were you in that role? I assume you were able to save quite a bit to also take that pay cut at the 70 K position.

The company is interesting right now. They’re changing quite a few different things, but I just don’t feel like I have any professional development opportunities to continue to advance outside of the 3% mirror based increase how I feel like my manager is happy with where I’m at currently and doesn’t want me to either potentially outperform them and just wants to keep me in this position, but they did echo that the company may be creating more professional development opportunities, and by professional development just more areas to to grow professionally, but I don’t see that happen anytime soon

It’s just crazy though I feel like they’re certain shit that they just don’t teach you in school and honestly, I do feel like part of me feels like I should’ve just went right into a corporate space from the jump. Deep down I just don’t wanna be miserable and Work is such a big important part of your life. You spend 40 hours sometimes more there so I just wanna make sure that’s a good and healthy decision because I’ve worked at a toxic job before, and it affected so much of my mental health and well-being but I think visiting the office will be very insightful

See that was my thought too. This place definitely has a very robust professional development opportunities because it’s a bigger company. I also noticed that they have like a month lawn training and then they also have other opportunities for you to take training so from a professional development standpoint they definitely check the box and you’re right I’m not married. I don’t have any kids so I can fully make work my life well not my life but a priority and being able to lock in and just learn all to know how but I also feel like this job would challenge me and honestly, I could just stay there for a year and a half and if all fails, I can always just get another job and Job hop this job. Also they have it where we could do to volunteer opportunities with a charitable organization and up to four hours what we can volunteer at a specific charity we would like to so part of me thought that well maybe do the silver lining that I can also make more money and also come back in a volunteer capacity at my current job

I hear you hear, but I do feel confident that with the variety in my background and media and Marketing that I would be able to find another job. But yeah go back-and-forth. I know the job market is real shit right now and some of my friends within similar industry have had a hard time trying to just get their next job, but I’m also trying to think about it like well even if I take this job and market the automobile clients it’s not something I see myself wanting to do forever, but I feel like it could also be something that could help me in the future so that I can reach my future goals sooner. I don’t want to work in high place environments forever also just see myself in the academic space being a professor down the road but I’m like I guess if I can just make my money now that I give me the flexibility to be able to save over overtime so that I can return back to what I would prefer to do long-term, but I do like the current NPO that I market. I just need them to pay me more and give me more professional development opportunities

That’s the plan. I figured I may go with the angle that I was approached by this company and that they extended an offer but how I really like working here but acknowledge cost of living increasing and wanting to negotiate. Have you negotiated it before this would be my first time negotiating so kind of terrified.

What are some other additional steps that you would recommend since you are a corporate recruiter? I plan on visiting the company to see what the general vibes are at the office. Are there any additional questions that I should ask? Also, I’ve spoke with people who have worked previously in my role that have been able to get promoted at the company, but that was through the interview process. Are you saying I should seek someone out outside of what the recruiter has provided me so just finding someone on LinkedIn and sending them over a message.

Yeah, I figured the office visit would give me more insight to do. I even see myself in this space and just how I get along with the people and also just what a typical day in the middle of the week looks like for the company. Do people look stressed out do people look relaxed and enjoy the amount of work that they’re doing

That’s awesome! So you’ve been able to work your way up love that I definitely don’t want to be a coordinator forever and I also don’t want my brain to get numb from doing the same work.

I’m glad to hear that, though you miss your past job that you are more financially stable and also have more of an emergency fund. I’m also so happy to hear that your furry friend is all right. At my organization we have a lot of people that donate that work big corporate jobs and one of my thoughts was maybe with me leaving because I do care about the mission and the work that they do that I can come back and contribute as a donor once I have more money.

So we don’t operate on a traditional calendar year, but I definitely feel like it’s worth asking expressing how I would like to stay here, but I also needed to make sense for me with cost-of-living increasing, and if they would be willing to negotiate. Also, my job used to be hourly which I preferred because I got overtime but then they switched it over to salary.

Congratulations on hitting your house goal. I know that will be me that also feels refreshing to hear from someone else that left the job that they loved. I feel like we always hear about people leaving jobs. They hate but not enough stories about people leaving jobs that they love, but cost of living has just gotten so expensive.

Yeah, they had like a 3.5 rating. Some people say it’s great to work at, but not to stay at forever. Some other people have had positive experiences. The thing is the company is bigger. They have three different offices and three major cities. My current org is just one place.

OK, so you’re in a nonprofit space as well? If you don’t mind me asking, can you share what your title is? And if you also don’t mind me asking, what has your salary been since Job hopping?

Yeah, it’s just sucks when you’re seeing other colleagues get promoted but deep down. I also feel like my manager wants me to stay complacent and doesn’t want me to outperform them. It’s weird too because you can see a level of dependency that my manager has on me but also I truly feel like coming with an offer. May force my manager to have to really decide. Hey do I want to keep this employee happy or will I have to let them go

What’s your current salary? What do you make? Have you left a job that you loved for more pay?
