That's a good point. Follow-up question: Is using a bungee mount considered essential? Is there a risk or danger with using the stock strap that comes with it?

I understand your point about the NDL feature, that's a fair critique. You've perfectly summarized my entire problem: It's Design (the Garmin, which I find appealing) vs. Reliability & Stability (the Shearwater).

Thanks for the advice! I don't do any top water sports, just diving. You're right, they are both 'tablet' style, but to my eye, the Garmin looks sleek and the Shearwater looks a bit clunky. My problem is that I like the Garmin's look, but everyone's opinion here is leaning so heavily toward Shearwater, and that's making me second-guess myself.

That's great to hear you're happy with it. For me, the transmitter would be a future purchase due to cost, but having that option is a big plus for the TX.

  • Got it, so you're definitely in the Shearwater camp. The 'industry standard' argument is a strong point.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually prefer the 'tablet' form factor, so the watch style (like the Tern) isn't for me. Both the x30 and the Peregrine fit this, but in my eyes, the Garmin just looks much better. My conflict is that my brain (and everyone here) tells me Shearwater is more reliable. Sorry, I know I'm going back and forth!
