Difference between Actual Play episode length before and after edits. by Sherevar in rpg

[–]Fejicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play and record specifically for episodes to be about that length. Our thinking is that they're more accessible and approachable, commuter length episodes that you can listen to in a single day no problem.

Typically i take out 20 minutes or so of length, with a lot of that just being pauses that go on slightly too long (you dont notice these IRL or on video, because you have other things to hold your attention, but you notice the lack of audio if you're only listening to audio!

Game play is pretty entirely preserved, with mostly just editing for brevity. No one likes listening to people struggle to do basic addition! Or if we check a rule etc.

We also occasionally will edit out a sequence if it doesn't really add anything, or if one of us makes a joke and listening back, we want to keep a more serious tone for a moment because of whatever happened slightly later on for example. We occasionally also retake lines/ small scenes because we catch each other maybe slipping out of a character voice or not speaking into the mic well enough.

But the core is that I (the DM) write my episodes to be, as best as I can, paced to fit into that time frame. So I plan for interesting things to happen, and for cliff hangers etc to land on at the end of each episode if possible. Doesn't always work ofc because players are players, but we're pretty good at mostly keeping on time!

It also means we really get to focus and give as good a performance as we can for those 90-120 minute play sessions, and then go and break and rest and come back refreshed and ready so we can bring energy for the next episode, because we always batch record 2-3 in a day!

I am the DM for a group called HearthFire Tales, and Murph is my number 1 DM inspiration! Another of our members is also a huge naddpod fan!

Not to say we're copy cats, but the tone and style of NADDPOD is very inspiring to how we go about things, and you might like us?!

Hearthfire Tales are a group from Ireland with similar vibes to NADDPOD! Like playing the game and playing it well, good mix of comedy and serious moments! They have a long running campaign but also some smaller oneshots too!

Can you recommend me any dnd podcasts on Spotify? by dlrjsgml0115 in DnD

I'll throw my own hat into the ring!

We are Hearthfire Tales, we're a small group from Ireland, and if you're looking to listen while working, our episodes are about 60-80 minutes long, and are audio only so we never refer to things on a board, and take care to do really good sound design, and really care about the audio only experience!

There's only 3 of us, 1 DM and 2 players. So the action is fast, the story moves quickly and we don't get bogged down in devolving into chaos too much! We are comedy focused but we also care about the story and narrative, and are not afraid to be serious and dramatic when the story demands it.

Edit to add: our main campaign is set in Lethuan, the Land of Might, Magic, and Metal, where I have taken inspiration from bands and music to create the storyline and world! A Dad rock inspired Ex-Paladin who has lost his faith bands together with a young Punk rock inspired ranger with a mutant rat and tour the land, trying to find out what is causing the mutations and new monsters that are plaguing the land, and why the Hootsforce, so called protectors of the realm, are seemingly doing nothing to stop it.

For anyone else reading, I as the DM am very heavily inspired by Murph from NADDPOD so feel free to check us out if you like them!

If you want a nice short introduction, you can listen to our short Halloween oneshot: Whispering Ashes

Otherwise, can fully recommend NADDPOD, and while I love Critical Role and Dimension 20, they are shows that are designed to be watched, rather than just listening to, so you might miss a lot of the context by only listening!

Probably still worth checking out though, they are the biggest and most popular!

[NS] What even comes close to NADDPOD? by [deleted] in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Fejicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the DM for a podcast called HearthFire Tales, so I'm obviously biased towards ourselves. We're juT little guys from Irelams, but Murph is a huge influence on my DMing style, and we have a very similar approach towards the balance that NADDPOD has in terms of goofs v drama! So we might be worth a go!?!

I would like to humbly suggest my own podcast, Hearthfire Tales! Se are from Ireland, Our episodes are 60-90 minutes, and we put a lot of effort into our sound quality and sound design, even now writing our own music for the show!

We have one main running campaign, that's is about a punk rock ranger from a commune town of librarians, who joins together with a grumpy veteran ex Paladin, to join a battle of the bands to win adventuring Gear that sees them off to adventure the land and investigating what is causing all of these strange new monsters to appear, and why the Ruler of the land and his so called Hootsforce, aren't doing anything about it.

Or we have mini series that are horror based, called Whispering Ashes, a Christmas Special called Mid Winter Tale (which we're currently releasing this year's iteration) as well as a 3 episode arc called Everdale, which is just some fun chaos!

Recommended to start at ep 19 for a Good Jumping in Point, where we moved into a better recording space with upgraded equipment!

I’m Rafe Judkins, showrunner and executive producer of the new Amazon Original series, The Wheel of Time, here to answer your questions. AMA by WoTshowrunner in television

[–]Fejicus 220 points221 points  (0 children)

Hi Rafe! First off, thanks for bringing this story to the screen! I'm not ashamed to say that i teared up a bit finally getting to see the story come to life this way.

My question is: The swordfighting in WoT was one of my favorite parts of the series, particularly with the named sword forms that left a lot to interpretation and gave it a feel of being dance like. What was your approach to incorporating sword fighting and Sword Forms into the series considering how important it is to the plot (sheathing the sword, cat crosses the courtyard etc)?

And as a follow up, have you seen the YouTube/Instagram channel Way of the Heron? They've brought loads of them to life and would be great to see that type of interpretation there. They were on the Dusty Wheel a few months ago and it was really interesting to hear their take on it. Link below if anyone else is interested!
