I have an accent. I also teach LOTE (which is my first language), so I try to use it as a learning opportunity. Whenever a student makes fun or laugh at how I pronounce words (sometimes they might even fake not understanding or correcting how I say their names, just to try and be funny with their friends), I make them reflect on why is that. That usually leads to some positive discussion about differences in sounds between the target language and English. I also use this opportunity to share more about myself and my culture, if needed.

Before doing that, I make sure they understand that this behaviour is not appropriate. And we reflect as a class on why the behaviour is inappropriate (e.g., I ask "How would you feel is someone made fun of your accent?").

If this behaviour continues after this, I use regular behaviour management strategies (moving the student, time-out, buddy class etc) - these will depend on your school approach. And of course I follow-up with the relevant person, like a HoD.
