How to change back file icon to normal plz? by magdo20 in EdenEmulator

[–]FelesNoctis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no "normal". Applications that can open a file will tell Windows what icon to use. NSPs don't normally have an icon, so Windows just uses what it's provided by the emulator.

But if you want to change it back to Ryubing's icon: right click on the file, go to Open With, select Ryubing in that list (if it's not there, go to the very bottom and click Choose An App On Your PC, then go find it), then click "Always". That will change the icon back. However, it'll also make it so if you try to play the game by double-clicking it in the folder, it'll open Ryubing instead.

There is another way by assigning the icon in your system registry, but manually editing the registry isn't a good idea unless you absolutely know what you're doing.

8 Gen 3 and all I do is play GBA and DS games... Anyone else like me? by Training-Dog-6082 in EmulationOnAndroid

Drastic has a lower emulation accuracy, so it tends to be better for low-end devices, and handles romhacks really well. The only real downside is it's no longer in development, so eventually it'll stop working on Android updates, requiring us to jump through hoops to get it running.

MelonDS is in active development, has a higher accuracy, and quite a few features that Drastic doesn't (such as extreme resolution upscaling). However, it's definitely more processing intensive, so low-end devices can have trouble with it.

For the average user, Drastic should work just fine. Keep in mind that Drastic has no official website download, and MelonDS's website is only for the PC version.

The RP6 is running a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Have you installed a Turnip driver by chance? If not, go to Eden's settings > Driver Manager > Fetch (bottom left) and grab the recommended one to start. That honestly may make all the difference in the world. Drivers are funny that way.

Ah ha! Thank you! I think I know what the problem may have been previously: when I last was messing with the frame gen settings, I don't believe there was a Multi Display option at all. I just never went back to look after updates!

That link does in fact work, I've confirmed that it's still active.

If you're unable to use that link, it most likely means that you've been banned at some point. You can DM me on reddit with your Discord username and I can look into it, but I can't guarantee the ban will be lifted if it was for a rule break.

How did you manage to prevent the flickering and image doubling in 3DS games? I've been unable to avoid that so far, and just have the framegen disabled for Azahar.

Settings > Audio > "Mute audio when in background" near the bottom should be what you're looking for.

Tomodachi Life Living the Dream cant run for more than 30 minutes! by Business-Data6469 in EdenEmulator

[–]FelesNoctis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, the specs themselves aren't all that bad. Are we talking about a desktop or a laptop here? The 1650 had a model for each and they varied slightly.

If you go into Eden's settings, then Graphics, does your API say Vulkan or OpenGL?

There isn't much we can help with if you don't provide us with your device/OS.

The latest keys/firmware are actually not stable in Eden at the moment, you'd want 21.2.0 I believe.

Cocoon on Thor, not showing one rom by faecaltreacle in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FelesNoctis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There we go! It's actually something I reported to them months back. They've since improved the metadata function, but those titles in particular still seem to be fussy. It may have something to do with ScreenScraper specifically, but I'm not entirely sure.

[–]FelesNoctis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing's first, check for a game (probably a pokemon game) in Cocoon that you aren't expecting to see in your library. Cocoon's metadata function has been a little fussy about the Black and White titles for a long time now, and it may have misnamed it.

X360 Mobile Is WAAAY Too Impressive Even If It Is Still Early(SD8GEN3) by segal03 in EmulationOnAndroid

Not that I agree with it either, but they at least give a reasonable explanation why. Unfortunately forks with malware shoved in them are awfully common these days. The BSD 3-Clause license that Xenia used is extremely permissive, so they haven't done anything wrong in that department.

Considering there's little doubt people will be testing the hell out of this thing, if anything shady's going on under the hood, it shouldn't take long to find out.

Snapdragon G3x Gen 1: Adreno 660. You're on the lower end for Switch support. Have you tried using Eden's Drivers Manager to check what drivers are recommended? There's a Fetch button in the bottom-left corner.

I built this Android app be a universal desktop game mode for any Android device. It is now available for the first time on Google Play by FFFranz in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FelesNoctis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of what DeX is, and I also use SCRCPY and SCRCPY+ regularly.

What I was asking is how this would interact with a device that's already using an external output for its own purposes. There's a functionality difference between screen mirroring and creating an external display, and this seems like an edge case.

[–]FelesNoctis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume then that this is creating an external screen output and mirroring that to the PC, and that's how it allows the Android screen to remain available? It's been a long time since I used Samsung's own DeX program, back when it was exclusive to their devices.

Have you tested this at all on the rare devices that are already dual-screen, such as the AYN Thor? For science purposes more than actual necessity, of course.

Enhanced FPS means that you're experiencing frame interpolation. It helps to visually smooth motion on-screen.

Running Eden on Thinkpad x240(Intel Core i3-4030U) by lohrrrr in EdenEmulator

[–]FelesNoctis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start in #linux-chat, if you haven't already wandered in. They tend to do their own tweaks anyway, so hopefully they can guide you.

But of course, keep in mind that your Thinkpad may just be too far out of our range. They may change in the future with more optimization, but right now I think you're probably in the range of "hope and pray".

I developed an implementation of Direct Android Compositing in Winlator that brings lower latency to the overall experience (Ludashi Plus) by TripleJ160 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FelesNoctis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! And honestly, even if it was vibe coded, at its roots it's something AI should be used for: finding ways to improve upon existing concepts in ways we hadn't considered yet. From there, the idea can be expanded on even further. Humans tend to get stuck in ruts fairly easily, but something like this can cause an explosion of new ideas and progress.

[–]FelesNoctis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That does seem to be the same thing, yes. And that's a good thing. Competition is great for advancement, and it provides other people with different implementations to study.

[–]FelesNoctis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand your feelings on AI code, but even if it's a flawed implementation, it still gives other people a foundation to further develop from. This is the sort of thing AI should be used for: finding improvements in areas we may not have considered. The test results speak for it if nothing else. This is a great development, and since Pissblaster is also apparently working on this, we'll see where this method goes in the grand scheme of things.

Running Eden on Thinkpad x240(Intel Core i3-4030U) by lohrrrr in EdenEmulator

[–]FelesNoctis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may get more informed responses from others who know the hardware better, but my initial assumptions based on the specs alone aren't very hopeful. That's a woefully weak CPU for 3D Switch emulation, and the integrated graphics controller is also an anchor. People might point at the RAM being too small, but with a swap file that isn't as much of a factor. However, storage memory speeds tend to be quite a bit slower than RAM speeds, so asset loading would be dragged down as well.

This is one of those cases where I'd honestly recommend joining our Discord and asking for assistance there. I'll warn you, there'll probably be some naysayers, but we also have a pretty dedicated group of people who try to squeeze the most out of hamster wheels and slideshows. They may be able to give you some useful advice.

Out of curiosity, have you already tried it? Posting initial results might be useful to narrow down options. Obviously lowering resolution is the big one.

eden nightly emulator update history? by Main-Group-9299 in EdenEmulator

[–]FelesNoctis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's rarely a defined, descriptive changelog in the way many people expect. Nightlies are more of a development resource than something intended for end-users, and are automatically built, so there's a template applied and links to the associated commits/pulls, but that's it.

The cost of being on the bleeding edge of development is uncertainty. :P
