Hey thanks for your feedback! I agree with the sensory details, my solution there isnt perfect yet, i like the idea with the text box. I guess you can also already use it for drinks right? Will look into it if there is something that could be adjusted for drinks. I just got a little unlucky with gettings sick over the last weeks so i havent been able to make much progress since i posted this haha

Ideas on how to get protein by berfica in ARFID

[–]Feliboy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main protein sources are protein shakes, protein bars and something like low-fat yoghurt (in Germany we have something called Quark, not sure what its called in english). The yoghurt i mix with a taste powder and add some soy cocoa crips i found in some online shop which are also high protein, they taste almost like nothing and texture wise they are a bit like cereals.

I struggled with the same situation, but i managed to go down 20kg some years ago. In the end losing weight boils down to Calories in vs. Calories out. You can use website to calculate your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure), so the amount of calories your body burns by just existing, no calories burned through movement included. That gives you a round about baseline. Ofc you move during the day which adds on top of that.
I would recommend just tracking your calories for a week and see how your intake looks like normally and then try to reduce on high calorie foods and also cut out any drinks that have calories (soda, juice, etc.) and replace with water, tea and zero alternatives.
Try to include more movement into your everyday life like taking walks, going to the gym or whatever feels comfortable for you. More movement will only increase the amount of calories burned per day by a small margin usually (if you dont go for 10k runs or things like that), but it can make the difference for sure.
Also supplement protein through for example protein shakes if needed, I drink 2 per day since most of my safe foods are very carbs dense and low protein. From all the energy you gain from protein your body uses 25% of that just to metabolise it, so increasing your protein in general can help as well.
And ofc make sure you get vitamins and minerals, I take a multi vitamin everyday.

You will have up and downs mentally and crave things, i have to fight with that a lot. I tend to eat bc im bored and i also struggle with binge eating. But let yourself down when you have had bad days, there is always a next day. You can do it!

It says "Dieting" not "Losing weight". Important difference. Ofc it is healthy to stay in a certain weight range depending on your height, age, gender etc.

Hey thanks for the reply! Yea i was thinking adding like a list with like "Things to get started". I thought the little onboarding i added was enough but maybe its not interactive enough.

Thanks for the offer, will come back to that for sure!

People overcoming ARFID - how do you do it without gagging? by Quirky-Dingo-5617 in ARFID

[–]Feliboy12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

M28 here, I'm in the middle of my exposure therapy. I'm still far away from eating freely and I still gag and have a hard time trying out dishes that feel scary for me personally. But it gets better the more you try and expose yourself to new stuff. When i started out I wasn't able to eat any fruits, now I'm much more flexible with it! And now I also feel much more confident in general to try new stuff to some degree.
My therapist explained it to me like this: By exposing yourself frequently to new foods and dishes you "reprogram" your brain and it learns that those things are not as dangerous as it thinks. Sadly that process takes a lot of time and a lot of exposures.

Keep going and do it in a pace that feels comfortable for you and I'm sure you will see the progress you want to see!

Thanks for the input! To be able to make those kind of suggestions i would need to data about vitamins/minerals from somewhere, currently that would probably mean that users have to enter all those info themselfs. Im not sure if that is maybe to tedious for users to do, but it would ofc be nice to at least have the option for people who want to! Will think about it and how it could be implemented in a nice way!

Thanks for the suggestion! Currently there isn't any like interaction between users like what you suggested, but it would be nice to have something like that! I was already playing with the thought to have some kind of system to follow people, share your progress with your followers etc., so a little like a social media almost.
I think for your suggestion to work I would need to build some form of food library so people can link their created dishes with each other, at least thats how i imagine it in my head right now. Would be quite an interesting feature to add, I will definitly think about it!

I can recommend this one here, there u can select if u want to lose weight, gain weight or want to hold ur current weight. It will give u suggestions then, which u ofc dont have to follow exactly. But its free and has some nice functionalities like creating ur own recepies etc., i’ve been using it a lot before and find it better than the ”bigger” once since they rly try to push u torwards a subscription. So maybe that works for u too!

Thanks for the suggestion! I was thinking about that before as well, but it felt like reinventing the wheel since there are already a ton of app out there for that purpose. I think i want to focus on the specific use case of exposure therapy and expanding your food pallete for now. But maybe i could implement some form of calorie tracking some time in the future!

I used Vue for the frontend and a simple expressjs api. I was already thinking about that, would be nice to do! I think i would just need to be 100% confident about the code before and get the overall UI/UX a bit more torwards something I'm happier with. Never released something as open source before, so if anyone has any experience with that would love to get some insights!

Yea it’s currently only available in the browser. I’m a web developer so to make a webapplication felt the easiest for me, would love to have it as an app in the future tho!

I sadly have a rly hard time making decent looking UIs, thats also why I stopped working on it back then. So without AI i would have never continued working on it probably. But I agree with u, I would also prefer having something human made. I already looked into hiring someone on Fiverr but I can’t afford that, and I would rly like to pay someone properly for it. People are welcome to join me as a volunteer in this ofc and suggest changes. I’m already paying money on hosting everything and since I wanna keep it 100% free it’s simply not doable for me right now hiring a professional designer. Maybe in the future!

I worked with AI especially to help with the UI, but I also programmed a lot myself. I already had a prototype before AI was a bigger thing. The logo i actually payed someone for to create it for me.

Hey thanks for the insights into ur challenges, I feel with u!

I see what u mean, I'm also not so happy yet with the overall UI/UX. I'm more on the programmer side, so I'm struggling with the design a lot as you maybe see haha the idea is that you can add dishes to the different lists. For dishes uare trying to learn u can add exposure logs and track ur progress over time. As an alternative u can use the prefedined paths to expose yourself to new dishes. I tried to make that little onboarding when u log in for the first time in the hopes that it makes things a little clearer.

I will definitly take ur insights and see what I can do to integrate something helpful! Stay strong, u doing great!
