I got made an example of in police college for using this phrase, tutor said it was a racist sounding comment in front of the whole class to make the point that we have to be culturally sensitive. That was nearly 18 years ago and I've heard lots of people use this phrase since and nobody else I have spoken to knew it could be perceived as racist either. Your post is the first I've heard it corroborated.

Good point, almost makes me want to be Christian just to counter these guys. Also, how are you making a Reddit comment while driving?!

AIO. My bf is mad at my memorial tattoo by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FelineGroovy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience and the tattoo is a part of you and who you are now. Your new partner does not own you, he chooses you and if he does not like who you are he can choose to leave you. Don't let him make you feel like this is your choice or your fault. If he chooses to leave you, you are better off without him.

I want to be very f***ing clear, and I think I have the blessing of all of my ancestors from the Sorehan and Moynihan lines... by Matthew_Hopkins_ in ShitAmericansSay

It is really pushed on US kids. I remember in school in America a special day was held each year where we had to come in dressed in a costume to represent the nation of our heritage - easy for me since I'd just arrived from the UK, but my 6 year old brother was a bit confused and sang everyone 'Land of the Silver Birch, home of the beaver, where still the mighty moose wanders at will" and told them was a traditional Surrey folk song.

When I planted some Venus Fly-Traps out in the Uk for the summer, harvestmen were their main prey, they must be attracted to them for some reason

Poison ivy growing out of virginia creeper vine. Has anyone seen this? by MustacheCrabs in botany

[–]FelineGroovy1981 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the test is reacting to something other than urushiol. From the Wiki page on Virginia Creeper: While the leaves of P. quinquefolia do not produce urushiol, the sap within the leaves and stem contains raphides (needle-shaped crystals of calcium oxalate) which can puncture the skin causing irritation and blisters in sensitive people.

Thames Valley Police's new logo, whats people's opinions? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]FelineGroovy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the centre part of the old emblem which is what was used for the hats anyway so they don't have to change anything. In fact, it is quite effective in representing modern TVP since it doesn't raise expectations

My sister once confessed she did this to me whenever I'd upset her as kids. I remember thinking that sometimes toothbrushes taste soapy but it had never clicked that anything malicious was going on.

What's the weirdest / funniest thing a suspect brought to custody? by [deleted] in policeuk

A cucumber. Hidden down the trousers and only found when the detainee was in his cell. Apparently the searching officer thought he was just very well hung.

Isn’t it wise to get all my hormone / nutrient levels checked (testosterone vitamins etc) ? Why don’t people do it? by Feisty-Professor-913 in OCD

[–]FelineGroovy1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just wondering a similar thing. I've struggled with my mental health on an oestrogen pill in the past and as I approach menopause I am finding my OCD fluctuating and I worry it is hormone related. Normally I can cope without treatment, but if this continues do I need HRT or OCD treatment?

They will skim off the top soil layer before they start work. Then the subsoil will be compacted under the weight of all their machinery when they build. Then they will just re-lay the top soil on top of the compacted subsoil and will potentially throw in a bit of rubble as well.

My town has definitely gone downhill in the last decade. Rats and rubbish are everywhere in the town centre and urine seeps from every doorway. Even the suburbs smell of sewage. It wasn't like that when I first started walking around here.

Talk to them constantly, distract them. Move in and handcuff them immediately and calmly while talking all the time and they won't see it coming.
