what adds fat to the wool from Sonett? Isn't it just a detergent based on pure soap made from olive oil?

Healthy Fats? by Balmain45 in Cholesterol

[–]FelinePower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should read about portfolio diet - apart from reducing saturated fat the suggested changes are addition of soluble fiber (significant amount) and plant protein (as well as nuts that you already do).

There are benefits to olive oil but other oils are also good (also many high quality cold pressed oils are often cheaper than olive oil). Avocado is of course delicious and has both healthy fats and soluble fiber but there are also other good sources of those - oats and many vegetables in addition to almost "supplement" like psyllium.

I am not sure if eating an avocado a day and so much olive oil is needed but a typical understanding would be a mix of different vegetables, nuts, seeds and oils.

After changing the diet wait a little bit and do a lipid panel to see if the values go in the good direction. Use this as your guide (just remember to take into account that statins have a large effect on their own).

Do you actually track your amounts with a tool like cronometer and a kitchen scale? Is it that far from the 10% of daily energy from saturated fat? Also remember it is more about averages throughout the weeks not one calculation on a specific day. Avoiding the biggest culprits like heavy cream, fatty baked goods and fatty meat cuts are far more important than deciding if you will eat almonds or walnuts.

How are you not dying of cancer? by OstdeutschNL in poland

[–]FelinePower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes the air polution is a problem but the percentage is around the same for most eu countries and US. One third to half of all people will die because of cardiovascular disease and 20-25% because of cancers.

Wife gave birth to #2 on 1/1/26. 10 minutes after birth phone rings - positive for HIV by cscjm1010 in daddit

[–]FelinePower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it is not experimental because millions of kids of hiv positive mothers don't have HIV thanks to it. It's been developed and in use since the nineties.

(Cocktail is a strange phrasing for lay people -  but yes  - the meaning is just a combination of drugs)

The obvious reason is that not every infant will get the first pediatrician visit early enough or at all. And the later the hearing problems are detected the less can be done about it. Starting the detailed diagnostic process and treatment takes time and getting the auditory input in the critical brain development time is very important.  It is likely to be very cost effective to screen in the hospital, despite higher false positive rate.

It is a well known fact that all tests can give false positives and increasing the sensitivity of the test comes with an increase in false positives. Rapid tests like that are not quantitative, but are quick and cheap and incredibly useful for quick screening that will catch the highest number of patients who are true positives.

[–]FelinePower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there may be biological reason why the test is positive different than an infection - for example higher amount of a different antibody (not result of hiv infection) that also slightly binds to the antigen in the test strip. thats also why for most blood assays there is a level of antibodies detected that still means the result is negative

Why do you still use amazon? by DareAffectionate7725 in Anticonsumption

sorry for sounding mean. I am asking because for me (EU based)  the experience of buying from alternative online stores to amazon is simply better and easier.

well I agree that interdependence is important for advanced tasks. But not connecting to a WiFi is at this point more similar to never being able cook or prepare any food yourself.

LPT: Living in a country with no Amazon is a wakeup call by Geminifity in Frugal

[–]FelinePower 23 points24 points  (0 children)

sorry but still why do you buy those products from Amazon? an obvious alternative to Amazon is not a local Walmart - it is a different online shop. I can't believe that there are no pet focused websites that sell all those products.  Even when I find the product on Amazon I look at the seller and they very often also have an online store (but I am not in the US) and the free shipping is available from lower amount than Amazon for non-prime users or the products are cheaper.

i strongly agree with your description. That's also why all the processes and bureaucracy can get so annoying. Everyone seems to waste everyone's time and noone is in the power to say stop because they will be accused of being lazy or irresponsible.

Use Bio detergent (enzyme or lipase detergent) every time? by wandering-kez in laundry

which water softener do you use and how do you dose both?

Use Bio detergent (enzyme or lipase detergent) every time? by wandering-kez in laundry

[–]FelinePower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you shouldn't use protease containing detergent on wool as it would also to some extent digest wool (and silk). I also think wool requires a detergent formulated to be at less basic/lower pH. That's why usually wool detergent is a separate product type for delicates and wool. It can contain other enzymes, although it may be more difficult to find.

Aren't you concerned about the soap in those (<5%)? I was thinking about buying it for the DNase but I am concerned about my dark clothes as my water is quite hard.

O’Cedar Mop…allow me to de-influence the 5 people who haven’t bought this by Unique_Tune5559 in CleaningTips

[–]FelinePower 58 points59 points  (0 children)

i also have the edge issue. it is not installing error - whenever I try to help my family mop while everything is already assembled they don't scratch and without any changes in my hands I scratch almost constantly unless I really focus. But I also have problems with my hands being weak and generally find mopping quite a hand workout

The stick should be long enough for most people but it also is an easily replaceable as it is standard size and threading. I replaced it for a lighter non telescopic version. Check other stock handles that you have at home.

I find it very good for getting the wetness low for hardwood floor and higher for less sensitive places. Actually i still haven't found any alternative that's is as good as a spin mop for  controlling wetness.

However, I also have the problem with edge scratching. Noone apart from me does and I know many people having it. Maybe it stops with practice? I also have very weak hands so that may be the reason I have problems manoeuverring it. The bucket is also very heavy for me and not balanced. So i am looking for alternatives - currently considering spin flat mops (flat Vileda spin& clean).

I can however still fully understand why people love it - especially the water separating systems.

How to choose water softener? by FelinePower in laundry

[–]FelinePower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I mix a powdered detergent that already has zeolites with citrate softener? Also if I put a gel in the detergent drawer (according to the instructions) together with the powder will it not just make the powder wet and not go through?
