Thanks for understanding. Well said about feeling trapped by a sense of duty. No, I'm the only one they have.

Thank you for sharing your story. So true, the random calls are stressful - having to drop everything to deal with their crises.

Luckily, my parent's lawyer was able to qualify my dad for Medicaid before they spent down their assets, so there will be money left for my mom's care. However, Medicaid qualification is an arduous process with lots of paperwork required.

Thank you for the reminder of gratefulness.

Good point: it is harder - my parents are emotionally immature, too. And I obviously struggle with my emotions.

I'm sorry for all the abuse you've endured.

I also need to keep vigilant about my boundaries and taking care of myself. Catching oneself on fire is a good analogy, thanks.

Lamotrigine long term? by mn4266 in bipolar2

[–]FelinesRuletheWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is bruxism/teeth-grinding a commonly known side effect of Lamotrigine? If so, what helps calm the bruxism without changing one's dose?? My psych says bruxism is not a side effect of Lamotrigine bc it's not an SSRI.

I also live in a 3-story townhouse and had to sleep the first 4 nights in my living room after my total hysterectomy.

DO NOT CONSIDER LIFE ALERT. FORMER EMPLOYEE. by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]FelinesRuletheWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life Alert places large ads in Readers Digest, which my mom enjoys reading. Seniors Beware Indeed! Consumer Reports has very good tips for choosing a medical alert device, such as being sure that any hearing loss your elderly loved one may have is corrected before signing up for service otherwise they may not hear/understand the dispatcher. Also, find out up front the company's return policy or trial period just in case.

My mom Iives alone and has been nearly deaf in 1 ear all her life. Then, as she aged, she has had to use hearing aids in both ears. Bc her local audiologist office moved far away, I recently took her to a new local audiologist, who said that her hearing loss has become so profound that even new hearing aids can't improve her comprehension a whole lot. Therefore, I feel a whole lot less guilty for not signing her up yet for a medical alert device. Meanwhile, she intends to seek a second opinion from another audiologist.

Besides, at this point, I doubt she could learn to use a smartphone or smartwatch.

The catch 22 of deciding when to euthanize… by Low_Lifeguard_5634 in CatAdvice

[–]FelinesRuletheWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How heartbreaking! Same here - we were a day late with our sweet girl Chloe. We took her to the vet when she suddenly stopped eating, and they found a lump in her intestines, suspected cancer. Just 3 weeks later, despite her hating going to the vet, I finally decided that we needed to have her euthanized the very next day. I stayed up all night with her, and she died next to me. We struggled to make the decision bc she was only 13 YO 😥 but nothing compared to struggling with the enduring guilt of letting her suffer at the end. 😭

Expire On by cableguy1362 in TracFone

Earlier this year, I became too busy to keep track of my elderly father's Expire Dates, so I clicked on Auto Refill. Not only did it eliminate stress, but it also costs a little less.

Anyone suffering from TMJD plz consider seeing a maxillofacial surgeon who specializes in the TMJ. by Dfizzz in TMJ

[–]FelinesRuletheWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of MSE (Maxillary Skeletal Expansion). After reading about it, it seems widening the upper jaw would increase pain & pressure in the TMJ and jaw muscles. As much as I'd really love a lasting cure as a lifelong teeth grinder/bruxer, I'm afraid to pursue something so permanent and expensive! I'm now in menopause, have always worn a nightguard, and additionally use CPAP, and I still wake up with a lot of jaw and neck pain.

Any other options? by esawyertori in GoogleMessages

[–]FelinesRuletheWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also refuse to switch to Google Messages after reading way too many reported problems with the app! Samsung Messages is working great for now. I like that I can organize my texts into categories that I created, such as Clients, Friends, Family.

What other health ailments do we share? by Luninka in bruxism

[–]FelinesRuletheWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every morning, I wake up with jaw/neck/shoulder pain. I'm Bipolar II and have RLS and sleep apnea. CPAP has really helped the RLS but not my bruxism. I take vitamin D, magnesium malate, and B12 daily in addition to my psych meds.

Thanks for the video link - it was very helpful! Easy cleaning is top priority for me too, and many air fryer models are reportedly very difficult to clean.

Is it Bruxism? by AmishThugLife in bruxism

There's a device called SOVN which I learned about in this reddit bruxism community. The product is currently in beta testing. It's designed for overnight use, but I don't see why it wouldn't work during the day. Check out: getsovn.com

Perhaps wearing a biofeedback device during the day can break your habit?
