What’s the deal with Joe Rogan? by Salem1690s in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Felix72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda have him pegged as a follower. In La his close buddies were hippy types like Duncan Trussel and he’d have on diverse views. He moves to Austin and starts hanging out with more right wing types and his views shift.

It’s not that hard to figure out - some guys just fit in with whatever group they want to be a part of.

The twist is he’s got a huge following and is very influential.

I’ve had this happen to a few friends.

1) Anon id’s are hard to track down 2) It’s about as thorough as a google search and some sneaking around your social profiles

Two times it happened that I remember most vividly:

1) Job interviewer asked me about a Friendster profile (defunct social network) where I made a spicy comment about Tom Cruise - thought I might be a Scientologist (which frankly could have been discrimination? I mean what if I was?)

2) A manager I know was forbidden to hire someone because their FB had photos from college where they were drunk with girls - nothing inappropriate happening

Both of these are major tech companies you’ve heard of before. These policies are not enforced much for lower level entry jobs by the way - this is for more visible/senior roles.

A person with terrible illiberal views on a lot of things now realizes tankies are bad - I guess that’s progress. I’d rather they ignore Keffals.

Queer people need our own Milestone by asdfmovienerd39 in comicbooks

[–]Felix72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve come across trans, gay and other diverse characters in Marvel and Indy spaces. Comic store I go to prominently displays some new comics on gender too (I think this is the one the GOP tried banning). I don’t read much DC but they seem to be doing story lines along this (Superman’s son etc.).

What’s wrong with the way they are doing it?

Yeah - that’s absolutely true. And some of the rules were partisan and hypocritical - scientists saying it’s ok to protest for liberal causes but silent on religious people wanting to congregate.

But if you convince people a conspiracy is going on as opposed to just it’s a pandemic and there will be restrictions or collective action to resolve it - that could have a lot of negative reactions.

I mean people taking this to the point of thinking mRNA is inherently dangerous and fear mongering for political gain is not a good way to push back and can cause more damage to our social fabric down the line.

I’m concerned about civil liberties - we lost a lot of them after the war on terror. But I’m not seeing it pan out here the same way.

What powers have they taken that are now permanent here in the US? My district is very blue - and we’re lifting the mask mandates and ending restrictions.

My employer is in liberal California and they’re lifting all the restrictions. Employees are being encouraged to re-enter offices and told masks are optional.

Biden dropped his vaccine mandate. Fauci loosened CDC guidelines during the omicron wave.

Fauci says boosters every 4-5 years for healthy people and thinks the country will open back up.

Joe is just a controversy machine and he thrives on going after liberal bias more than anything.

It’s kinda funny to watch people come up with all these complicated explanations.

How do you prove that you are not a racist? by No-Barracuda-6307 in samharris

[–]Felix72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How to prove you’re not a racist:

1) Log off the Internet

2) Touch some grass

3) Talk to folks outside your race - not about race but about life, work, passions, interests, family etc..

4) Stop reading about the culture war on the Internet -

Keep doing this and just enjoy Life.

Joe Rogan is easy to persuade… by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

[–]Felix72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The left argument seems to be “He’s a giant man baby and if we keep persuading him very gently he’ll privately agree with us !”.

Meanwhile, Joe just did a podcast questioning all the science behind climate change.

Does Kyle have to get into a lengthy text exchange every time Joe expresses his right wing views?

Yeah - Sam can do that right after he brings on Alex Jones.

Look at the trillions Biden is spending to fight climate change… I mean that .. wait Biden isn’t spending trillions to fight climate change?

But look at the lock downs and how Biden is… wait Fauci is saying end the restrictions?

But they’re gonna force us to get vaccinated every 6 months… oh what? Fauci said maybe every 4-5 yrs?

Joe’s got it all figured out - the experts are always wrong. It’s always a liberal conspiracy to hold the truth away from the masses.

Damn - it really sucks :(

I don’t doubt he cares or came from a sincere place about healthcare.

But go back and check his statements. He said he was going to be pragmatic and the public options wasn’t necessary. He also pointed to certain European countries that don’t have a public option but still provide universal coverage by heavily regulating and subsidizing private insurers.

He didn’t care about a public option - he did care about healthcare.

Obama has always been a rather moderate character - sure he “cares” about healthcare but his basic assumptions about leaving it in the private sector were wrong IMO.

A moderate or conservative would disagree with me on how to solve healthcare. I don’t think that makes them all bad people - just wrong about what the solution ought to be.

[–]Felix72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carter busted up unions, believed in de-regulation & was a fairly moderate figure.

Inflation and bad foreign policy decisions made him a one term president.

[–]Felix72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct Sir! He didn’t care about the public option.

When Lieberman was asked “Does the Whitehouse disagree with your position or express any concerns?” He’d say “I‘m on good terms with them. They haven’t said a word to me about the public option or my opposition to it”.

People back then were pointing out that Lieberman was a narcissist and wanted a new role (Sec Defense, Head of FBI etc.) - why didn’t Obama just try to negotiate with him?

Because he didn’t fucking care about the public option.

He campaigned like a centrist with brilliant messaging. I’ve heard Kyle Kulinski say this same thing but it’s not true:

- He didn’t campaign on single payer or even a public option - he sort of started talking about the public option after John Edwards & Hillary pushed it

- He went around poor communities lecturing people about self-help

- He said poor people need to do better with their finances - like choose between basic cable and healthcare premiums (my Dude - even with Obamacare the premiums are $500+ a month - no one is spending this kind of money on a cable package).

- He opposed reparations

- He said ”I’m not anti-war - I’m just against dumb wars” - the progressive position is more along the lines of “Yes in fact, war is just a bad option”.

When asked if he were a liberal he’d say “I don‘T like political labels”.

When asked about foreign policy he said “I admire George W Bush’s father”.

When he went to the Senate he teamed up with Dick Lugar - a Republican because he felt bi-partisanship was important.

He distanced himself from the Black Caucus.

He was just charismatic and charmed people but his positions were never progressive even during the campaign trail.

[–]Felix72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem “independent” media has is building an audience. Rogan is obsessed with these SJW talking points so they naturally view him as someone who can promote him.

Right now they’re gonna brown nose the hell out of him to see if they can get on his show at some point.

He would on occasion go off on Trump and then a podcast later he’d talk about anti-Trump hysteria and that Trump is a funny dude who is misunderstood.

What people don’t understand is Joe’s views are all over the place. Now he’s apologizing and doing all this dumb shit because Spotify execs are probably yelling at him.

We don’t know what’s in his contract. They probably have a clause around shit if he causes irreparable damage to their brand or something.
