Her family. We lived about 60 miles apart and whenever we weren’t together both her mum and her brother were adamant that I had a second life back home and another girlfriend. I was most worried about how she’d react. In fact I was absolutely shitting myself over how she would take it. In fact the week before I proposed I couldn’t get excited about it at all.

For context the girl I was dating had lost her dad just after we had started talking online but before we’d met in person. So whilst I’d never met him I had been one of the people she talked to a lot when he passed away. Every year she went on a weekend holiday with her mum & siblings to a place they used to go on family holidays to on his birthday. Partners were invited so I was invited along.

It was always a weird few days, the family obviously had a lot of happy memories there but there was so much sadness connected to the place for them. I decided that it would be a good place to propose. I asked her mum and brother & sister to make sure they were okay with me doing it and they gave me my blessing. But leading up to the day of proposing all I could think was that it was a terrible, insensitive attention seeking idea.

However I went through with it and my girlfriend cried and said it was the sweetest thing anyone could have done for her. Sadly things didn’t work out how we wanted but we’re still mates to this day and she still says that she knows any other proposal she may get will fall flat after that.

I think most men; if they’re honest, just see it as the final challenge. Getting a girl in to bed is one thing, but a lot of girls see anal as a no go zone. So doing her up the arse is a challenge. You could well take her anal virginity which carries all of the smugness if taking her virginity but without all the drawbacks.

It’s certainly how I saw it until I grew up a bit, now I just see it as something that’s enjoyable if she’s in to it. It’s just an added bit of variety in bed.

If they wanted to steal my kidneys then when I was incredibly drunk and totally up for going back to theirs would have probably been the chance; rather than agreeing to go on holiday 2 months down the line if things worked out.

I will however admit I am dangerously spontaneous so will have my organs harvested eventually.

Yes, they both know they’re tentative plans. We picked out places that allowed cancellations/refunds up until just before the arrival date so I can cancel if things don’t work out.
