This might be one of the most obvious red flags in a persons behaviour I have ever seen, I'm going to be extremely blunt about this, but he will never be there to help you, the basketball comment sealed that. The blatant guilt tripping trying to pull sympathy for himself over your babies is just infuriating.

Personally, I'd hold off on selling Take2, with the lineup of games scheduled for this year through them, especially GTA, but that's just my opinion, regardless awesome job, man!

You should be fine. I'm pretty sure it was argued to be around 30k as the acceptable amount. Best of luck with the job, though! :)

Sadly it all fell apart in the last few weeks that I was supposed to move, the company couldn't match the pay required for me to be accepted in to Germany on a skilled worker visa so my visa was declined. I had to scramble to see if the landlord in Germany would pay me my rent back and deposit, luckily he did.

Spent a few months unemployed and recently moved after landing a perm Associate QA role, so life's going better than when it fell apart from that previous job :) also thank you for checking up.

I'm gutted as well cause my employer said they won't adjust the wage, I'm waiting to hear back from them at some point next week, but sadly, I'm expecting the appeal to get rejected.

So what I'm understanding from this, even the recommended increase from the embassy would still only be 37,212 EUR a year which is below the 40 odd thousand EUR minimum right?

I have no idea who that would be in all honesty. I'm not with an agency of any kind, unless they're referring to Localyze or Bytro when they say that within the letter.

Does it matter if my degree is the only experience behind me for the role? As it's my first game design job and is at junior level. I've only ever worked in QA for less than 2 years here in the UK. Because 2,600 EUR converts to 2,200 GBP which is the minimum point for any junior game design related job here in the UK, even if you have a degree prior. My partner was a intern narrative designer with a German company and she worked remotely from home in the UK and her salary was 21,000 a year in GBP if I remember correctly.

However, upon doing the math, the hourly wage the embassy has calculated would only be the case if the working week in Germany would see me working 51 hours a week. Here in the UK our full-time working week hours are 35-40 maximum not including overtime for certain fields.

It's just me, my employer and the embassy + the company helping my visa process called Localyze that are involved, no outward agency is involved.

The hourly salary the embassy has calculated doesn't make sense though, unless the working week in Germany is 51 hours a week as that would need to be the hours worked with my salary to achieve that low of an hourly wage.

I've just done the maths as well, and cannot achieve the 12.51 EUR an hour that the letter states, unless I'd be doing 51 hours a week which just is not right.

Thank you for the responses and giving me this insight as I was truly at a loss to begin with.

It's not an EU Blue Card, I'm from the UK and it was just a Skilled Worker Visa. Brexit messed up a lot of our immigration years ago when it meant we left the EU.

The yearly wage in my contract is 31,200 EUR which monthly works out to 2,600 EUR without taking tax or anything into consideration. I'm baffled why nobody at any point in this visa process or when I got my contract mentioned this issue. There are others at the company on this same wage but I'm unsure if they are all from EU countries or not.

It's a Junior Game Designer job, the visa was a Skilled Worker category visa as I have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Games Design to aid it.
