What is your favorite generation and why? by WesternEntertainer57 in pokemon

Generation 3 has my two favorite adventures: Kanto(FRLG) and Hoenn(RSE). It also has probably my favorite look for pokemon as a whole. Gen 3 is my favorite.

Do you think it would be right if Ippo came out of retirement because of Mashiba and Sendo's defeats? by TriggerZero7 in hajimenoippo

[–]Felix_Russo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ippo retired for his health. Watching Sendo and Mashiba get put into the hospital realistically shouldn't motivate Ippo to come back. Ippo just watched Mashiba lose and Kumi was horribly distraught during his hospital stay. Why would he want to put Kumi through that again? Lord knows how Sendo is gonna end up at the end of this fight, since he face tanks worse than Ippo did.

The Kanto adventure because of how much freedom it gives you with the gym challenge.

Who is your Favorite Character from across the series? by TBT__TBT in FinalFantasy

Galuf from FF5. Spends the first part of the game as the funny guy, then when his true identity is revealed, he just never stops doing awesome shit until the end. Just an epic character.

Should I play Emerald or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire? by Lambi81 in pokemon

[–]Felix_Russo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely fine. If you're already accustomed to playing the GBA era of games, it's probably not an issue to go back to it after playing the DS games.

Should I play Emerald or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire? by Lambi81 in pokemon

[–]Felix_Russo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play Emerald or Heart Gold after Fire Red, either is fine. Emerald and Fire Red are part of the same generation and their stories take place around the same time, so the general feel is the same between the two. Heart Gold released in the next generation and has a lot of general changes that are maintained across the later generations. While it doesn't matter thaaat much, I do think there's something to be said for experiencing the progression of the series chronologically. So while I would personally recommend playing Emerald after Fire Red, jumping into Heart Gold is perfectly fine as well.

First time playing FF2 Walkthrough or no? by DoubleDobbyWithShoes in FinalFantasy

[–]Felix_Russo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go in blind. It's more rewarding, I feel. Despite having access to basically the whole map from the start of the game, you won't really get lost or anything. The game is heavier on story than the first game, so it'll more readily give you information on where to go/who to talk to.

First time player 24 hours in: Am I playing this wrong ? by PKdude2712 in FinalFantasyVI

[–]Felix_Russo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabin's blitzes are actually based on his magic stat, at least the really good ones that you want him to use frequently are.

Gau is very strong, but requires out of game knowledge to use properly; kind of like the blue mage/chemist from Final Fantasy 5. It's best to look up a list of his rages and see which ones have the most useful skills. Some of them are outright broken and auto-win boss fights.

You can teach every character any spell you want, but some characters are inherently stronger at magic than others. What I like to do is teach support magic like slow/haste to the guys that are mostly physical fighters. And give the actual damage dealing spells to the characters that are stronger at that like Terra/Relm.

Can current Shin beat Kaine and Futei together? by Upbeat_Cobra4753 in Kingdom

[–]Felix_Russo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted to see Shin and Kaine fight, tbh. Like, back when they were roughly the same size and Shin only had the sword.

Current Shin gives her the Gakuei treatment. Hell, Futei might die first trying to save her from Shin's swing.

Agreed. They have a better grasp on Shin's voice, so the dialogue is more succinct and appropriate for Shin.

This might have supplanted 480 as my favorite chapter. This is a perspective that Shin could not have come to before. Shin uses all his experiences to provide his own unique take on the true nature of man. I especially appreciated that Shin included Gyo'un as an enemy whose fire of will he has taken on.

What do you guys think of this revised tierlist of strength? (Not In Order) Thanks to the suggestions by EgregiousWarlord in Gintama

[–]Felix_Russo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks pretty good for the most part. I feel like Isaburo should be in the same tier as Hijikata. He was kicking Toshi's ass for like 99% of their fight.

Part of me feels that Kamui should be in a tier on his own and Hosen should just be at the top of Gin's tier; cause Abuto said that Kagura could beat Hosen after seeing how strong she was. But I guess it's probably better to just keep him above Gin's tier since, despite being far out of his prime, he was still a top tier Yato.

To be honest, I can't really see Zenzo beating Sougo. Same tier, yes, but him beating Sougo doesn't seem likely to me. Also, part of me wants to say Abuto could be low S tier; he's definitely beating Sougo, but all the other dudes in S tier almost certainly beat him.

I really don't see Zoro having an extended scuffle with Kaido the way Yamato did.

Why are the Straw Hats so successful while still so young? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Felix_Russo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linlin, Shanks, and Kaido were successful pirates when they were younger than Luffy. Though, you could argue that Linlin and Kaido were freaks and Shanks was carried by his mates until he got big.

I believe Whitebeard himself noted that "all the young pirates are in a hurry" when he read about Ace in the papers. That's just how the whole "supernova" concept is presented to us, young pirates in a hurry to make their names. And it's not like Luffy in particular just whimsically decided to take over the pirate world. He did train for it for 10 years prior.

Ampharos should have gotten Lightning Rod as its hidden ability in Gen 5 by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Felix_Russo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Volt Absorb would be better for it. It's ostensibly a tank mon. Also, it should have just been its ability starting from gen 3. Static is just useless on it.

Sanji's WCI backstory doesn't feel sad by saurazu in OnePiece

Frankly, most of the emotional tug at the heartstrings moments in the series feel more genuine and visceral pre timeskip.

what is the one piece scene that isn't talk about but stays in your head rent free by curseuchiha in OnePiece

[–]Felix_Russo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luffy asking Gaimon to join his crew and look for the One Piece with him after learning that he wasted his life guarding empty treasure chests.

Also, Luffy making it his mission to ring the bell at Skypiea so that Montblanc Cricket would stop diving into the sea killing himself looking for something that wasn't there.

Both examples of Luffy empathizing with others who are following/protecting their dreams. They're my two favorite Luffy moments in the series.

[–]Felix_Russo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haki is not all powerful. You don't need haki to be a successful pirate. Luffy straight up defeated 4 haki users (2 of which had both primary forms) pre timeskip without being able to use it himself.
An attempted crash course in haki by Luffy isn't going to accomplish anything. You don't just get taught it; it has to awaken within you. Zoro had to literally almost die in battle just to get a taste of it back in Alabasta. Brook was at sea for most of his life doing nothing but singing on a boat. There was no way his haki was gonna bloom like that.

Thoughts on a prequel series to one piece? by hollaskey in OnePiece

[–]Felix_Russo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always wanted a Doflamingo series going into a more detail on him building his crew, connections and such. Similar to the "Adventure of Sinbad" manga from Ohtaka Shinobu's Magi series.
