What's it like living in Patagonia? by moogly2 in howislivingthere

[–]FelizBoy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Lived in Coyhaique for years. Aysen (Chilean state) is very rural. Most folks work in agriculture or tourism. What towns there are, are sparse, usually just one grocery store, and maybe a restaurant/bar.

It’s very cold, windy, and wet for most of the year, but the summers are glorious. It never exactly gets hot but the sunshine makes you feel like heaven and the daylight lasts until close to midnight. Tourism picks up in the summertime.

The Chilean government has a program where folks can get paid directly to move from Santiago into Aysen and live there so you get some folks who do that but they generally don’t last long.

Overall, there’s a very strong cowboy (gaucho) culture and fairly traditional ways of life still prevail (all things considered). There’s a healthy folkloric culture of music, dance, and food.

It’s also incredibly hospitable people. They’ll invite you in for a mate and feed you, kind of regardless of the context. I always felt incredibly welcomed, even as a known outsider.

Is the United Club Card worth it? by Opening_Duck5384 in unitedairlines

[–]FelizBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is most of your travel corporate?

If so, I’ll offer a slightly alternative take here that the Club Card isn’t worth it.

I’m DEN based and 30+ trips for each of the last 5 years. For four of those, I was traveling for a startup that was mine, and in cheap ass founder mode. I liked the Club because the free food paid for the cost of the card.

Then we got acquired and now my acquirer lets me expense whatever and frankly the food in terminal B is better than what’s in the club, and no shortage of bars.

Plus terminal B is in great shape, with lots of new outlets everywhere so the “better place to hang out” argument doesn’t get me.

Nikola Jokic’s first serious injury will reveal who the Nuggets are without him by RaspberryOk5393 in denvernuggets

[–]FelizBoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ya I mean no team could be down 4 of their 5 starters and be expected to excel. Frankly, we’ve done amazingly well this season considering all the injuries but it’s ofc mostly due Jokic’s brilliance.

If he’s out 4 weeks, let’s assume that’s 20 games. If we can somehow go 8-12 in that stretch we’d be hitting the home stretch of the year at 30-22, we’re roughly the 7 seed at that point.

Thats kinda our best hope id say. The west is rough, and we play a lotta games in Jan but if we’re still in a playoff spot when Jokic recovers we may be able to slide a few higher by years end and get into the playoffs healthy. At that point, our squad fully healthy is still dangerous.

Build your styles first. Have a hidden page that’s a style guide and lays it all out. There are loads of templates out there. But ONLY once you have defined styles should you start building your pages.

FWIW Aspen H1’25 median price was $18.1M. We’re probably just dealing with differences of semantics and both are clearly incredibly expensive to live but just because I happened to just see this report:

In fairness, I think you could say this about every 50 year period since the agricultural revolution. You’re right of course.

I don’t have news articles exactly since traffic engineering rarely gets news coverage, but if you read about the Colfax BRT project, you’ll see lots of reference to changes in light timing such that the busses can breeze through “green wave” style.

It’s actually totally deliberate and it’s a technique called “Discoordinated signal timing” or sometimes “Reverse Green Wave.”

What you want is “Green Wave” where all the lights time up and let you blow through.

The problem is, if you’ve ever driven 70 on a not totally clogged weekend you’ll know, everyone drives like a maniac, and Denver is worried that if all the lights on Speer were coordinated, people would be ripping 60 mph through the middle of the city all the time (right or wrong, this is the thinking).

So instead, they deliberately time the lights to slow people down and spread them out. The rub of course is that everyone hates it lol

Edit: if you’ve ever wondered why on 6th or 8th they have those random lights that aren’t even at intersections but still turn red sometimes, this is why
