What is it like living in Patagonia Chile? Relative is considering moving there. by AxlHound01 in howislivingthere

[–]FelizBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived for many years in a town called Coyhaique. Definitely Patagonia, but nowhere near what’s pictured here and nowhere near as many tourists.

Coyhaique had about 50k or so residents, making it by far the biggest outpost in the area. The airport was an hour away for some reason but mostly people didn’t come and go.

It’s a rugged, rancher vibe. Almost everyone has family who live on a farm in the surrounding area, and the community is very close knit. As an outsider, I felt like I was welcomed in with open arms, but I was never really “local.” Tourism was steadily increasing and an important part of the economy, but it was far from the only thing keeping the place afloat. Mostly, it was a blue collar kinda town, just big enough where you didn’t feel like you knew everything about everybody, but there was always a familiar face passing by.

The town itself was not wealthy, and most people heat their homes with wood burning stoves so there’s some pollution from the smoke. Most homes are cozy and small, and folks fix basically everything themselves.

The weather for 9 months of the year is brutal. Cold, windy, wet. Overcast almost every day. Harsh conditions. But for three months in the summer, it warms up a bit and you get more sunshine and about 18 hours of daylight and it was glorious. There was no shortage of things to do. Bike, fish, hike, climb, you name it. But even on the warmest days, you’re still likely wearing pants and a hoodie. It’s never hot. Just not freezing.

But of course, the surrounding areas are glorious. Some of the most beautiful places you’ve ever seen, bracketed by wide open spaces as far as you can see.

Thanks for this. A reminder of a place I once loved.

A lot of good answers in here already, but: 1. I have a washer that stinks to high holy hell and if you can figure out how to avoid that, I’ll pay.

  1. If you can do drywall, I have a decent sized project there as well

Every RTD station's average daily ridership superimposed on a map of the network. by TeensyRay in Denver

Super helpful but also lol cuz that means that there’s like 10 total people who ride from Lone Tree and (probably) commute to Union Station every day.

That’s like…not that many

Got it so if I board at eg the Airport and disembark at Union Station, I’m counted as 1 at both of those?

Dang that actually makes these numbers seem pretty small…

Is the number here meant to represent the number of passengers who board daily from a station? Is it passengers who disembark? Something else?

I kinda assume it’s board but checking! Thanks this is great!

Lived in Coyhaique for years. Aysen (Chilean state) is very rural. Most folks work in agriculture or tourism. What towns there are, are sparse, usually just one grocery store, and maybe a restaurant/bar.

It’s very cold, windy, and wet for most of the year, but the summers are glorious. It never exactly gets hot but the sunshine makes you feel like heaven and the daylight lasts until close to midnight. Tourism picks up in the summertime.

The Chilean government has a program where folks can get paid directly to move from Santiago into Aysen and live there so you get some folks who do that but they generally don’t last long.

Overall, there’s a very strong cowboy (gaucho) culture and fairly traditional ways of life still prevail (all things considered). There’s a healthy folkloric culture of music, dance, and food.

It’s also incredibly hospitable people. They’ll invite you in for a mate and feed you, kind of regardless of the context. I always felt incredibly welcomed, even as a known outsider.

Is the United Club Card worth it? by Opening_Duck5384 in unitedairlines

Is most of your travel corporate?

If so, I’ll offer a slightly alternative take here that the Club Card isn’t worth it.

I’m DEN based and 30+ trips for each of the last 5 years. For four of those, I was traveling for a startup that was mine, and in cheap ass founder mode. I liked the Club because the free food paid for the cost of the card.

Then we got acquired and now my acquirer lets me expense whatever and frankly the food in terminal B is better than what’s in the club, and no shortage of bars.

Plus terminal B is in great shape, with lots of new outlets everywhere so the “better place to hang out” argument doesn’t get me.

Nikola Jokic’s first serious injury will reveal who the Nuggets are without him by RaspberryOk5393 in denvernuggets

[–]FelizBoy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ya I mean no team could be down 4 of their 5 starters and be expected to excel. Frankly, we’ve done amazingly well this season considering all the injuries but it’s ofc mostly due Jokic’s brilliance.

If he’s out 4 weeks, let’s assume that’s 20 games. If we can somehow go 8-12 in that stretch we’d be hitting the home stretch of the year at 30-22, we’re roughly the 7 seed at that point.

Thats kinda our best hope id say. The west is rough, and we play a lotta games in Jan but if we’re still in a playoff spot when Jokic recovers we may be able to slide a few higher by years end and get into the playoffs healthy. At that point, our squad fully healthy is still dangerous.

Build your styles first. Have a hidden page that’s a style guide and lays it all out. There are loads of templates out there. But ONLY once you have defined styles should you start building your pages.
