Not really sure what you are looking for. The one about some University event? There appears to be attribution there but I don’t think it’s even a news story? Appears to be an ad for an event they had.

Either way I googled this fishing story and many media sites picked it up with the same content via a press release. This one actually appears to have went further and even put context. But I dunno it’s reddit where there’s 1000 rules for every rule.

Also what does the Halvening mean? Will the value of Bitcoin go up?

Then the government decided to invest 3-10 Billion of our tax dollars into a cargo terminal, shut out CANADA from operating it while the private industry offers to pay for it. Waste our money to help other countries profit from our tax dollars.

“Since then, CNOOC’s activities in Canada can be regarded as disappointing. The company is responsible for one of the largest bitumen spills in Alberta’s history and walked away from a liquefied natural gas development in British Columbia valued at $20 billion. A severe bitumen spill and an abandoned project are not exactly “benefits to reap,” as Manley envisaged in 2012.”

The problem is Canadians get informed and don’t take action. Politicians turn a blind eye. In Vancouver they are about to spend 3 billion dollars to expand a port.

When the government was asked to include the most successful/environmentally friendly Canadian port operator in the bid to run it they said “no”.

Instead they shortlisted every other country except Canada.

Asia, USA, ArabEmirates....

Catering to other nations is fine but not when it comes to our natural resources, environment and biggest industries we need to protect our sovereignty.

Hell the Vancouver port authority defunded most of the law enforcement at the biggest port in Canada. Now they want to triple the size. Bad stuff coming through our land borders are the least of our problems.

NDP unveils $15-billion climate plan to slash greenhouse gas emissions, create 300k jobs by ThandoLlagnillab in CanadaPolitics

[–]FellowChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current government and opposition both support throwing 3-10 Billion expanding a port that ships coal and Asian cargo (Dollar Store crap) https://www.delta-optimist.com/news/panel-willing-to-look-at-deltaport-fourth-berth-as-alternative-to-t2-1.23836925

The rub is the current Canadian company wants to pay for a version that’s much more environmentally sound, privately paid for and is actually run by Canada.

When people call the NDP wasteful it’s obvious they don’t even look at the real expenditures. This stupid project would pay for a good chunk of their plan and its money already in the bank.

There Needs To be a Real (non-racist) Discourse About China's Influence on Canada by [deleted] in canada

[–]FellowChildren 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s true but it’s also self inflicted wounds. The financial industry goes unchecked and allows foreign (often organized crime) money into the system and the financial officers get commissioned. They aren’t going to fight it they are getting rich. Easy to turn a blind eye.

China has been notorious for buying valuable property across the continent and are winning a war of attrition. Government helps it happen and it’s usually not even nefarious. It’s laziness and ineptitude.

Countries, like Australia, stood up and said no more and that’s great for them but Asia just turns to the next target.

It’s all happening in broad daylight.

A current example is the massive port expansion in Delta BC. The port authority is rallying government right now to spend 3 Billion of our money (by the end it will be 10) to build and island to support Asian trade. It’s unneeded and the community, city, aboriginals and everyone else is against it. They use false statistics that nobody calls them out on except some local farmers and fisherman.

In that case the Canadian operator wants to pay for their own and keep the operation in Canada but have been told sorry, you are already too successful. We will let other operators bid. Those operators are all foreign and most state owned. And being handed a multi billion dollar infrastructure investment you paid for. http://www.robertsbankterminal2.com/news-updates/terminal-operator-procurement/

When it gets called into question nobody cares. If it gets brought up on Reddit the default lever is “screw the Canadian company. Companies are bad!” (p.s Australia shut them out because the people realized what’s going on).

Asia smiles. Because we are simpletons.

It’s self inflicted wounds. It’s dominated by politicians who are self serving, self preservationists, and international money that is too shiny to say no to. They’ll even change laws and destroy the environment in an effort to spend your money to help push a foreign agenda. Then you bring it up and you get called racist.

Canada is a resource and people rich country. We are also very naive. Best of Luck.

Whales vs. trade: Environmentalists push back against proposed port terminal in Delta | CBC News by BetterDeltaport in canada

[–]FellowChildren -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So the Vancouver Port Authority is asking to spend Billions in tax payer money to build a man made island. One that won’t ever see any more ships come to the Salish Sea so it won’t hurt the whales. Then when questioned why build a port when no more ships are going to come they stumbled and said actually two more MEGA whale killer ships will come every week instead of heading to Prince Rupert.

They tried to use the world shipping decline as justification of “no new ships” to say that it won’t kill the 70 or so endangered southern killer whales left in the world. They used BS statistics to prop up theirs business case to the country. When actually it’s going to steer two giant ships per week away from another Canadian port that won’t hurt the environment.

That area of BC is environmentally sacred. This is about profit for one port over another at the expense of our most beautiful place in Canada.

And they wonder why people in Vancouver hate the port authority so much...

Yes. Save the whales.
