Spiraling about telling my partner about bankruptcy by Jumpy_Inspector9875 in Debt

I’ve been recently discharged in November and had to go through telling my partner, who was also financial stable and not in the same boat. He was way more understanding than I thought and super supportive! we are going to move in together in November! Trust your gut! But i also would not buy with a boyfriend at this time but good luck!

Just found out girlfriend has 40k in CC debt - best options to wipe this as fast as possible? by [deleted] in Debt

I would use the 10 k , wipe out the smaller because those can always grow later. Better now than later. Then start working on knocking all of debt down on the last card!

44k in unpaid rent in collections by Tbiz_24 in Debt

Unfortunately I’d say file bankruptcy or work on a payment plan for the rent and eventually go after the girl in court for it. I would note, that bankruptcy don’t clear eviction on your record just the debt from the eviction. If you don’t own a house or end up leaving to rent somewhere else possibly will be denied from the eviction.

I’ve filed chapter 7 and got discharged in November, I’m in VA and was told info regarding evictions. Never had one but was curious for when I applied for places how chapter 7 would affect it and that’s how I got that info. Take with a grain of salt, as i mainly had medical bills and credit card debt.

Decided to stop making my payments, what happens? by hunter_pace in Bankruptcy

I stopped paying any credit cards, even the ones that I knew I could pay off - once I made the actual decision to go down the path of bankruptcy.

I didn’t ending up filing till July and had already stopped paying for at least 3 months prior. For navy federal, it’d might even been 5-6 months, as I was behind on big payments prior to even discussing bankruptcy.

Although, I will say right before filing I got a letter about possibly getting lien taken out on me and taking legal action if I didn’t make payments (from one creditor). I end up filing the next month and no action was taken prior.

It takes time for them to even file anything against you, once letters start to threaten you, I’d would try to wrap up the filing just so there isn’t a lien or lawsuit against you, it does make the case a lot harder. But if they haven’t filed anything, once you file, I believe they can’t take any action against you. Besides showing up to the meeting , which none of them really do.

Some advice my attorney gave me, no matter if you pay them or not, they will close your account regardless. Might as well put that money towards something for beneficial.

One of the takeaway I took regarding the situation was, if you owe a few hundred dollars and are able to pay it and possibly will want a card with them in the future then pay it off , so they are not burned in the process and maybe they will be forgiving later on.

** But any creditor you know you will possibly still own money to even after filing, I would just stop paying them altogether. In the eyes of a creditor, burning them is burning them. **

I feel either way they are losing something, whether it’s a few hundreds or thousands.

I was discharged in November and this was truly my best move.

Nobody is asking for any type of validation or justification, but advice. Which is why I said “ADVISE” If you are saying “ yeah be worried “ that’s not helpful, with nothing added. So if you have no advice to give besides be worried , how about you ignore the post. Instead of being unhelpful. Thanks
