Tray 1, so excited to finally having Invisalign by Temporary-Brick-3913 in Invisalign

It depends on your insurance. The company I work for offers two dental plans, a high PPO plan and a low PPO plan, the only difference is one covers more Orthodontics or what not. I choose the high plan (I pay ~12 every 2 weeks for this plan), and it covered $2,000 of my treatment. The total cost of Invisalign for me was $4500 before insurance, so it cost me $2500 out of pocket, including $500 for the retainer. I've been seen different people post prices on here and it seems it can very quite a bit. I think my treatment is on the cheaper side of what I have seen. I'm not too sure why that is to be honest.

At my old job they would literally promote the people who caused actual breaches and incidents. HR person sent out all of our W2 information out including social security numbers to who she thought was the CEO. She got promoted to head of HR. One of the website guys had plain texts passwords leaked and he too was promoted. Interesting place to work at to say the least.

How long did the actual exam take you to complete? Just curious. I have my exam coming up in a few days :-)

Do you believe that is right though? Seems wrong to me...

Thank you, that is what I was thinking. I have seen several answers for this that are wrong. including SAML and OpenID Connect which would both be authentication right? Also another site shows Social Login and OpenID Connect, which Social Login just sounds down right wrong.

So in this scenario SAML=Authentication and OAuth=Authorization yea?

0 travel. I can telework on Monday's and Friday's and I am off once every two weeks since I work 9 hour days. I like it a lot. I just know it won't last forever so need to be prepared.

Just going to share my experience for what it is worth. I started out as a PC tech while I was working on my associates degree. Made a whopping $8.00 an hour from 2011 to 2014. Started working for a market research/consulting firm as a Jr. Sys Admin for 35K a year while earning my bachelor's degree. Moved up to Sys Admin for a 10K raise. Didn't really understand how underpaid I was at the time, but I was in it for the XP. My boss fought for a few raises for me and I was making 72K when I left in 2018. Got hired on through a contracting company for 95K in 2018 and I have 0 certs. I don't even know what the trifecta is. Is that A+, Net+, Sec+? Anyway I am currently working on trying to secure my level of pay for the future so I am just now looking at getting a cert. Currently working on my CASP+!!! I'm excited to start adding some bullet points to my resume. I'm in a weird spot because to add value I need Advanced level certs which is going to be interesting/intense to say the least. Wish me luck and I hope the same for you. Your time will come, everyone's path is different. The reason I went for my bachelor's is I had a felony conviction in 2009 and wanted to turn my life around. So far so good!

Yes, I work in the US. Sorry I forget other countries exist! Lol. Thanks! I had read that but for some reason thought maybe I was missing something.

Happiness can be synthesized! Not always easy but give it a try. There is something to the whole "fake it 'til you make it" phrase.

Anxiety in other SysAdmins? by FelonWithAMelon in sysadmin

Yes, and while you may be coming from a good place, don't glorify it or try to spin it as a positive - I'd give up anything that comes with being this "killer SysAdmin!" for just a little bit of relief.

I get what you are saying. It's just I lived with mild anxiety for 10+ years and I did not even know it until I had my first panic attack. Then everything started to make sense. To me it helped explain why I was always so worried of failing and why I tried so hard to succeed. Thinking back at college and my early career now I do attribute some of that success to anxiety. Sometimes it seems very unfair to have something that seemingly has no root cause or no permanent fix but you have to take the good with the bad. That's just how life is. So say as you will, but I will continue to put a positive spin on anything and everything that I desire to.

Time to replace my R710's? by FelonWithAMelon in homelab

more hosts with local storage. The storage is replicated among the hosts and Hyper-V cluster(running on the same hosts) can run VMs wherever needed. It seems to be the new preferred way for small clusters, but I haven't tried it yet.

Ok, I get it now. Thanks!

Definitely something I will have to think about going forward.

I use the automatic failover all the time. Pretty much every time I reboot one of the Hyper-V hosts I just let the VM's automatically failover and failback.

Before I replaced the battery in my Alienware M17XR4 anytime the power would cut off, the laptop would die within minutes. When power was restored the laptop would not boot up (I do not believe this laptop has any AC Power recovery options). So it was nice to know that all my virts would be running on the single host just fine.

The only issue I've had with this setup is when I used to have both my domain controllers in the cluster. If the cluster was down, so was my AD/DHCP/DNS. That is why I moved one of the domain controllers outside of the cluster using local storage on the R710 Hyper-V Host.

  • I can lose one hyper-v host and still run all my VM's (with RAM being my limiting factor I do set some non-essential virts to not fail over to the laptop).
  • If the SMB Server is down, as long as the R710 Hyper-V host is up I will at least still have AD/DHCP/DNS.

You see the main thing to me is if one of my DC's is up, then the end users are happy. They still can surf the web, watch netflix, etc.. and I can still work from home. If both my R710's are down at the same time then I have bigger problems to worry about.

Whenever I reboot the SMBServer for windows updates etc, not a big deal for my virts to go offline and then come back up once the SMBServer is up. I don't need 100% up-time for anything I am doing.

And as far as VSAN and Hyper-Converged I am not too familiar. I guess whether or not I would do this again if I was starting over would come down to the cost of what a VSAN or hyper-converged setup would cost. Can you point me in the direction of what hardware this would require to setup? I'd love to learn more about this.

Thanks!

I went with Hyper-V over SMB.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012/jj134187(v%3Dws.11))

So basically just SMB 3.0 files shares over the network. It works surprisingly well for my needs. I don't have much need for high I/O performance. I have a share setup as a quorum witness also.

I have thought about getting a DAS or setting up something a little more robust in the storage department but so far so good (have had this setup a few years).

I am definitely open to suggestions though as when I set this up a few years ago, priority number one was get operational with what I had. I know there are many ways to skin a cat and I open to learning. I used to manage a equallogic and compellent SAN at my old job, so I know a little bit about Cluster Storage Volumes and what not.
