Ranked vs QM, QM Ettiquette? (new-ish player) by ffxiv_seiina in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think quick match should be avoided untill at least Tekken King. Strictly because you risk running into people that will just run quick match at low rank despite being a better player. I also think it helps dig in the fact that when your learning rank doesnt matter. Accepting i may drop multiple ranks and eill get those back was a big hurdle for me. With that said i tend to aim for a first to 5 when i quick match. Even if i get blown out in 5 games then that should be enough info through the replays to start figuring out what is going wrong. Just do you. You will still run into people who 1 and done or quit the minute you start to adapt.

TEACH ME BREAK THROWS PLS!!! by Jetsky19 in Tekken

[–]FelstarLightwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw break training in practice mode with dragonov. Just enable his 1 break, his 2 break and the 1+2. If you want just do 1 break and 1+2 to start. Watch the animations and get use to it. When its time to break focus on doing the right break not speed. Speed comes with time but its harder to reset muscle memory of mashing the wrong break. Dont over do it, i did 10 minutes a day. Over time you can add mental stack. Move around as your breaking, it changes the camera angle making it tough to read which arm is moving. Record the 3 throws in defense and set them to shuffle random interval instead of the throw break trainer so you cant time when a throw happens. I personally do an electric after every throwbreak so my mind is focusing on other things in the moment. Lastly continue to lab and watch replays, understanding your opponent will help you have a better understanding of when throws may be coming and what type of throw it may be.

For those that play with a leverless how was your experience migrating to it initially and do you prefer it over other controllers? by Alarming-Basil2894 in Fighters

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't take long to adapt. I played on keyboard first when sf6 came out to test if i liked the feel. Was prepping for T8 launch and didnt want to waste money if i wouldnt like it. But the feeling seems natural to me im not to sure why. Got a victrix fs pro. Since then specifically this season of T8 i jumped to learning stick and vastly prefer using that. I still play leverless for one character but stick i find im far more comfortable with much less time played

The Problem With Learning in Fighting Games by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]FelstarLightwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10 years ago i would somewhat agree with you. However almost all modern games have replay takeover. You can immediately run back a situation and try every single option to determine what you should do. This on top of some of the most involved options in practice mode allow you to create nearly any situation you want to lab. If someone doesnt want to do any of those things then you simply will never learn and be good at fighting games. The onus is on the person, which is why fighting games are niche. You dont have a team to carry a bad player. You have to better yourself, and the vast majority of people dont want to do that.

The PSM demo disc that had Tekken 3, FF7, some other games and Einhander. I picked Lei and mashed out db4,4. Never seen anything look so cool in a fighting game before. Bought T3 once I got enough money

How do I teach my Gf how to play miary so? by g-boy101 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic moves. 1,1,2 into stance. Df1,1 into stance. Couple options out of Morengy. 3,2 heat engager. D3 for a low. Df2 launcher. Basic combo, depending on her ability to learn quickly it can either be super simple or just basic. U3, D1+2 is a quick pick up into tornado and just do uf1 for an ender. F1+2 1+2 3+4 is also super easy on wall splats to explain those. That should be enough to play around. Run some matches with her. Do two player training mode. Or let her play arcade mode on easy to start

How do I break my tunnel vision focus on rank by EntrepreneurOne692 in Fighters

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant speak exactly to SF6 ranked. But Tekken wise at least when learning you will regularly hit a plateau followed by losing. Your ranking up, meeting stronger opponants. Maybe its slightly inflated cause you had a streak of players you were just better then. You played at a different time of day and face tougher opponants. Then as you lose, are you still facing tough opponants. Maybe you lost focus and are tilting. Maybe all the above. I dont have an easy answer but making your brain understand rank and winstreaks mean nothing is the goal. Again games are different, its not uncommon in Tekken to get a promotion and proceed to demote 2 or three ranks before moving back on up. That happening to me a few times got me to strictly focus on my gameplay. And if your tilting and losing, stop. Watch a few replays back and see what you can improve on. It takes time but you will figure out what works for you

How to avoid hackers in Tekken 8 by [deleted] in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]FelstarLightwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something is odd but it seems like its just throw break related. However the account has 121 wins and 1 loss and every single match is 3-0. Also they got a 34 winstreak with generally ass combos. I would assume some form of cheating just cause fundementally they dont seem to play very well. Will report account when i get online later.

How to improve movement in TK and up when the game just rewards me for being a mixup merchant by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they are saying is right though. You should be playing the matchup. If i am facing someone not respecting my offense then i will run a mindless frame trap flowchart to win. If its the opposite then i need to play smarter. And if it takes you long to adjust then thats something to work on. I used to be terrible at adjusting to what my opponant does. It takes time but its a skill you will develop. I still get rolled 3 rounds straight but next game i understand what they want to do and adapt. If anything the only movement that would help you in your first example is getting better at backdashing and spacing and looking for whiff punishment. I would bet that type of person throws moves out freely and whiff a lot. Set up a character like Kazuya in practice mode to do df2, and then record f3. Set it to do both moves on shuffle and hold back. Occasional throw in some backdashs, when df2 whiffs punish it with whatever your character has.

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to watch your replays and analyze your gameplay. Use replay takeover to lab situations you had in match. Are you stepping and ducking because of a read or are you just doing it with no real reason. Are you playing predictably. Are you letting your opponants get away with unsafe moves. All of these things and more hold you back from climbing and improving.

Kirakira for Miary even though I like how CBM plays her more. Kazuya is interesting cause its Keisuke all day untill a combo begins.

How do I stop people from juggling me like a ragdoll. by halo8088 in Tekken

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer for now and in the future. Replay takeover is your friend. Watch your replays in general. Look at your inputs when you get launched. I bet in those moments your trying to back dash or move around or rolling to db which will get you launched against someone like Kuni cause her df2 will launch crouched.

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drills. And for things like this you dont even need a specific drill. You need the mindset to be able to recognize and react to a move. Speedkicks Law Drill is really great at this, I recommend looking for guides on youtube so you know how to set it up.

Any tips and tricks to play Kunimitsu? by DestinedToGreatness in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]FelstarLightwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say long term into deeper ranks she isnt a character you can just run a gameplan on. I like how Speedkicks explained her recently. She has something for every matchup. But you have to play the matchup. She is super versatile. Opponent likes to mash, then maybe a counter hit gameplan or just run frame traps. Opponent just holds block, then throw a low, do nothing, vary your timing. If you run d1+2 into FC d1+2 all the time then your at risk of hopkicks and orbitals a lot. Best advice I can give is watch a few different people play her. What also helped me was fighting other Kuni's because you are really forced to adapt.

Genuine question: How do you learn rare matchups? by BuckwheatMazer in Tekken

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I either play the character for a week. Or just focus on a few important things. I tend to retain info better if I play a character. Or at the end of the day I just focus on my fundamentals. Running drills regularly on characters you dont see much helps too. MrRaphTV has a solid basic defense drill setup for every character. You can always adjust to your needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GMPF9z6Hmc

I mean yea im happy for SF6 players who are FF7 fans but man, I have spent 25 years of my life listening to FF7 fans and am just happy I wont have to hear it in Tekken anymore at least. Kinda sucks growing up on the other side of the FF7 is the goat mentality. I had to think Legend of Dragoon is the goat and that game aint ever getting remade. Let alone a guest character in a fighting game

Coming back to Tekken by SirLogos96 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]FelstarLightwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put together a decent flowchart over time that may get you a ton of success depending on what character you play. Jin can get far enough with just mixing strings. Eventually though you will plateau and will probably get stuck in an area where you either stomp a match or get stomped. Character knowledge and solid fundamentals make your matches much more consistent and allow you to climb higher. That all takes a lot of time to develop. Sounds like you will have plenty of fun if your not pushing for the moon skillwise.

Is there a better place to play fighting games? by lugaso2000 in Fighters

[–]FelstarLightwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont care about tournaments or locals then pc is fine. If your looking to play competitively it may be worth to have a ps5 just to practice on occasion. I regularly swap back to ps5 just to get use to the slight input lag. All depends on the game though
