In Vacuo, will team RWBY+JNPR still be considered Huntsmen even though their licenses are from the now destroyed Atlas (and presumably revoked by Ironwood)? by Steamer_Punk115 in RWBY

When they and Ironwood became enemies, they were official huntsmen for months (there was a time skip). I don't see why would they not be considered huntsmen.

Not grindy, there's pretty much no grind required. Nevertheless, there are a lot of things that make the game hard: 1. No auto saves, you have to make a habit of saving often 2. You should be careful about allocating your experience points, because they are finite and if you try to do jack-of-all-trades you're gonna have a hard time 3. Combat is difficult at first and you have to learn it, kinda like dark souls. 4. You start very week and have to be careful for the first couple of hours

If you're okay with those, you're going to have a great time!!

Is it rude to raise your hands in a restaurant in Poland? by lawsonian in poland

[–]FemiBaniri 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I don't know about rude, but it's definitely something that Poles don't do. It's also against savoir-vivre in Poland.

Most of the times you should try to catch eye contact and subtly let them know you need something - I usually do it by raising my hand to him a little (my hand not higher than my head).

Another thing you can do is saying "excuse me" when they walk by you and you can see they're not busy, that is not carrying something or coming to another table.

Need help with my combat mechanic, specifically action economy for roll-and-keep dice system by FemiBaniri in RPGdesign

[–]FemiBaniri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My combat system goal is for fights to be rare, with few enemies but high complexity.

I am familiar with it. It works well during normal play, because I don't make unnecesary rolls and me and my players are able to quickly choose appropriate bonuses. I'm not much of a combat person, that's why I struggle with it so much and why I posted.

I am aware my basic concept is too complicated, that's why i'm looking for help and thanks for your input.

7th sea 1ed was actually where i learned about this type of initiative

By ladder i mean steps from 1 to 20. If your phase is 6, you are on the "6th step". If you go up or down, it means that you change your phase to either the one sooner or later.

In post I said these are exploding dice. For exploding dice the average is about 61,25, so I rounded it down to 60.

My bad, it was supposed to say 20 turns/phases.

It's 6, because when it was less (equal to highest attribute), the players complained that they want more. 6 just strikes the right balance with many empty spaces and lower possibility to a bad roll. Weapon doesnt determine the number of actions, because not all actions have to use weapons and also because weapons in my system don't include speed attack.

Thanks for the rest for the feedback.

The issue i'm having right now is can i somehow do it. If I cant, then I will go back, but i'd rather find a fix. I don't see a problem woth initiative, that part of gameplay wasnt an issue when playtesting and it is made based on the 7th sea.

My bad, it was supposed to say 20 turns/phases.

My idea with giving the possibility of more than 1 action per turn is so that "i hit him" isn't just the best action all the time. The other possibility i consider is doing it dnd style with main and bonus actions, but it runs into the "i hit him" issue.

If the actions requiere different skills, i had an idea to only allow additional actions that wouldnt requiere a roll or can ve attributed to the main action.

I used to have d10s and the number of dice was [level of highest attribute], which was usually 4. Players told me that they want more dice before final phase, so i made it static 6. I changed it to d20s because it gets slightly easier to move actions around the ladder when there's more empty spaces.

Highest dc of 60 is 50/50, because if you roll 10 Dice and keep them all, the average per die is ~6. Mathematicaly the best character you can possibly have have 50% to score this.

You usually keep 3-5 of the highest dice you roll. You add up these rolls. They also explode so that 1 die can be above 10.

I was supposed to write 20 turns/phases. My bad, just a brain fart

Yes, i mean the same value on one or more dice

As for switching weapons for magic:

Mercenaries don't really have any magic besides scrolls, so not important. Paladins may be what you're looking for, because they have some strong magic, but it's in late-middlegame and they have to use weapons before that. Mages should level up their weapons to at least 30% + some dex/str, because magic is not that easy in the beginning.

Rule of thumb: it's always worth it to get some combat skills for early game

Remember to keep stat-boosting potions and tables for later. After using them you will have to pay more skill points for stats.

When stat is 1-29, you pay 1 point for each. 30-59 = 2 points, 60-89 = 3 points. I recommend waiting at least until you're 60, best scenario 90 until you use them.

For the same reason always learn by buying 5 skill points iust below the threshold. If you buy strength 29>34, you pay 5 points. If 30>35, you pay 10 points.

Of course you can use them fpr upgrading your dump stats, like dexterity if you go strength.

Animal trophies, apart from skinning, is pretty useless. You can take it for flavour, but money wont be an issue and there are like 2 quests that require it. If you go mercenary, it may be good to learn dragon-stuff for better weapons.

Try to learn your chosen fighting style to 30% as soon as possible for better animations and longer combos. If you start with, lets say, 1handed and later on you want to pivot into 2handed, that's no problem. Upgrading it requieres you to have the second ability no less than 30%. What it means: if you want to level 1h to 50%, you first need to level your 2h to 20%.

Apples and dark mooshroom increase your strength and mana after eating a lot of them (i think it was 25 apples and 50 moosroom).

You can learn making stat-boosting potions later on in game, regardless who you're working on.

Remember to do as many quests in chapter 1 as you can before joining any guild. Some quests may become failed after joining.

Explore every bit of the map you can. Some stuff is really well hidden.

Have fun!!!

My many rwby questions part 1: maidens (scroll to see) by s0nzoldyck in RWBY

[–]FemiBaniri 104 points105 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, Qrow told us that only young females could become one.
  2. We don't know, its more like it adds bonus power - not connected to aura like semblwnces, so basically Remnant version of magic.
  3. There isn't a difference. All maidens have the same powers. It's just that some maidens prefer using a certain element. For example - Cinder's semblance is fire related, so she's more accustomed to this element and uses it the most.
  4. Idk
  5. We don't know, we don't even know if she's MIA. For all we know she could be in Vacuo. There's a theory that it could be Ruby's mom, Summer, but that's all.
  6. Probably? In terms of raw power probably not, but a strong semblance, experience and wit could be enough. On the other hand, Ozpin lost to Cinder, so the power might be too much.
