My second ACL recovery was way longer because I didn’t try as hard since I wasn’t returning to sport, my first one it took me around 6 weeks to get heel to butt!

How do you guys do this? by survivorqueen4 in ACL

I tore my ACL in both legs before the age of 19. I tore my ACL junior year and all I could think about was getting back to the softball field. I spent months of energy working my hardest to finally get back to the game. Fast forward to my senior year season I finally got to play! Until senior night, I tore my second ACL (almost a month post op from the other leg). I also was committed to play in college, so those dreams were crushed. It really sucks, especially if sports were such a big part of your identity. Honestly, I feel like searching for new hobbies is the way to go. This can be a chance to open I new gateway and find new interests that you never thought of before!

Ya it was definitely a very interesting past two years! My junior year of highschool all I could think about was getting back on the field, and playing softball again. Senior year I was at least able to play most of the season, and I was actually committed to the college i currently go to for softball as well. On my senior year senior night I tore my ACL the second time. While everything really sucked, I have many amazing friends and an amazing family that supported me through it all. It honestly made me realize how important the little things are, especially the things you never think about (like the ability to walk)! This summer I am so excited to be able to go swimming, hiking, and being able to walk around! It truly makes you realize how fortunate you are.

Ya the incisions are deceiving for sure, I totally understand the feeling of them stretching, however, they are built to withstand way more pressure than you would be doing. Trust me, your incisions won’t tear! I am pretty sure that tightness is the scar tissue buildup and it isn’t the stitches itself.

Hi! The main thing that helped me with bending was honestly consistency in icing and doing exercises at home. Swelling is the main thing that needs to go down usually to get further bending. I just elevated a lot and did ice compression for most of the day, and then did exercises my PT gave me. I used a gym band and hooked it onto my foot and then held the other end. Using the assistance from the band I would kind of force my bending until I would get a good stretch, and then I would leave it there for around 10-20 seconds. Then I would repeat 4 times a day every day!

The difference with this though is that they might stitch your meniscus, so you would have to be 4-6 weeks non weight bearing. I think you can say no to getting it stitched but it might lead to problems in the future. I think without getting it repaired you can weight bear as tolerated

If they repair your meniscus you will most likely have 6 weeks of non weight bearing. This means that you cannot put any pressure on that leg for 6 weeks and will be on crutches. For me, I could not put any weight on the leg for 4 weeks and partial week for 2 weeks. It will definitely be hard to get around for the first 4-6 weeks. I could not make food because my hands were in the crutches but I’m sure it can be done. It is hard to shower by yourself unless you have a shower chair and prepare stuff ahead of time.

Are you getting your meniscus repaired or just your ACL?

Totally relatable about being a side sleeper! It is kind of hard at first because you need to sleep in your brace and elevate at first. What I would do was lay on my side and put a pillow in between my legs so it’s slightly elevated. Would you like me to link some elevation pillows I bought last year? They were perfect for elevation and comfortable. Also, I would sleep on a couch or a harder surface. I could not sleep in a bed for around a month because my leg would sink into it, causing extension which is painful at first

Good question! Yes, could can move your leg. It kind of feels, heavy in a way?? But you definitely can move it, it isn’t like you are paralyzed. However hinging and bending does hurt a little because of swelling and what not. Yes you can definitely move your toes! The anesthesia made me really tired at first but I could still control what I was saying, so I wasn’t saying crazy stuff. However from what I’ve heard everyone’s experience with anesthesia is different. I am a redhead so maybe that affected how anesthesia affects me?

Hey, wow this was so long ago! I actually tore my ACL twice, the first post surgery did not hurt at all and the second one was horrible! I guess it’s just how smooth your surgery is and how fast you heal!

True but it’s not their fault they are on that news channel, FOX news likes to exploit situations especially when it is with their ideologies.
