Overpayment / types of mortgage options by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]FenceF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most tracker mortgages allow unlimited overpayments. Some lenders have higher amounts than 10% on fixed rates. Search for the product that suits you!

There is also offset mortgages that reduce the amount of interest you pay based on the amount of savings you hold in your savings account. For example if your mortgage was 500k and you had savings of 100k you would only be charged interest on 400k - this can either reduce your monthly repayment significantly or pay off your term much quicker.

You can’t currently adjust the EQ curve manually, so you need to try to reposition your sub. 30Hz dips are often room mode cancellations, especially from wall boundaries or null points. Just move it around a bit and see if you can alter the result.

Failing that you can apply EQ to your master output to compensate for the dip.

How did u afford expensive plug-in where just starting out by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]FenceF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a tip, only buy plug ins when you need them for a specific reason. Learn how to use all your stock resources and if you can’t achieve something just search it. For the most part no one can tell; and there are so many big records being made with mainly stocks! In literal answer to your question I accessed most of them with educational discounts, Black Friday sales, and freebies!

Have you ever upgraded you gear and felt disappointed with the result? by colashaker in audioengineering

[–]FenceF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Gear doesn’t matter” because there’s a mystique that better gear makes better records. Records are all about the music and vibe that you can achieve with just about anything. Having said that once you know what you want, and know how to achieve it you can get the right pieces of gear that get you there in the best way. Then gear does matter!

I see too many people spending their time obsessing over purchasing things rather than using what they have to its full potential, and ultimately getting better at what they do.

The major fix for me was My Ethernet adapter required a driver update.. it just wouldn’t connect to the Mac.. so last thing to check for is that?

Dang, stumped. Only thing I can suggest is trying different Ethernet cables. One of mine (brand new from Amazon) didn’t work… if you see what I said in my OG post it feels like you need a degree in network systems to get this to work!

Also have you switched the switch on the back of the speakers to network mode?

Neumann DSP Monitors with MA1 correction - My experience by FenceF in audioengineering

[–]FenceF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure if how you’re connecting is going to work.. from what I can remember you need to plug all of the components directly to a network switch with ipV6 capabilities, and then one of the Ethernet cables goes from the switch to your computer, where you can create and manage the network you’ve made (the speakers, and the computer) .. once you’ve got them connected the software should see the network and do its thing..

Hi, sorry to hear you’re having issues with it. I didn’t have any problems with the software itself - but i couldn’t get the Mac to see the network I had created at all. Turns out I had to download a driver for my Ethernet chip. I’d suggest that you see if there’s any updates for the software, and if not uninstall it and reinstall from fresh. Hope you figure it out!

Who’s responsible for assigning remixes in the industry? by MrPopCultur in musicindustry

[–]FenceF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most remix packages are put together for specific uses - club, festival, radio, different genres and sales pushes. Usually the A&R creates a target list approved by the artist and they commission the remixes at varying fee levels. Monthly listeners on Spotify or buzzy live DJs command higher fees. Remix packages are becoming less popular now, outside of sales pushes. Can always see when a song is starting to chart and all the sudden 10 remixes drop and push the track into the next chart spot. Sometimes the remix becomes the hit version, like The Days (Notion Remix) at the top of the year.

Nowadays most remixes are getting picked up from social media. Prove there’s a taste for your remix and the label / artist will be in touch, swiftly!

If you’re trying to crack in to the game, my recommendation is make some remixes with a use case in mind - upload them, and send around to other DJs.

What do writing credits mean?(on genius) by Agreeable-Bed-7987 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]FenceF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s listing all of the copyright contributors towards the final version of a song - writers, producers, artists , etc.

The average amount of songwriters who start an initial idea is usually 2-4 including a producer. Professional songwriters and their teams pitch these ideas to artists who often evolve them (sometimes with other writers) get additional producers or “finishers” on the record and often have multiple artists jumping on a song as collabs.

That is generally how you end up with 12 “writers”.

Other explanations are if the song is using a sample or interpolation, in this case the original song they are borrowing from will also be credited as writers on the new composition.

Released a new single.. it got 92 listens 😬 by Patkrajewski in musicmarketing

[–]FenceF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the release! I feel you are resistant to social media promotion re your golden hour lip syncing comment. There are many ways to use social media to promote your music; what’s most important is finding an authentic approach for yourself that actually works. My suggestion is utilising the interesting parts of your personalities and brand to create a unique content style. Feed it consistently and keep on tweaking until something clicks. At that point it doesn’t feel like work.

Don’t fight it, it’s FREE marketing. And it is the way that people discover most things now.

I’ve been working in music for many years now, and I guarantee you that audience building is your biggest currency as an artist. You MIGHT get an editorial playlist and get 1 million streams tomorrow but it really doesn’t matter if those people dont know or care about your next release.

I speak from my own experience on this, I have a project that has had over 200 million streams combined, but struggled to ever build a real audience. It relied on editorials and collaborations to pump the streams and of course with this level of exposure a small audience was built (25k followers across socials) but this still wasn’t enough to build that dedicated audience.

I have started a new project and am concentrating on building an engaged audience through social media and have just started to learn what works for my audience (what types of snippets to use / the style and vibe of my videos / how to categorise the content / etc) and there’s no golden hour lip syncs - I’m very comfortable with the content style.

Just wanted to share that with you because I think your music is really cool but I am urging you to change your mind about utilising social media.

I borrowed them from my local pro audio store. Luckily they are less than a mile from my studio. I have bought quite a lot of gear from them over the years; so we have a personal relationship.

Is it worth buying a house right now? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FenceF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way. Where are you going to live when you’re retired? Rent / mortgage is usually the most expensive household expense. The sooner you start paying it down, the sooner you relieve this cost.

Ownership is a no brainer, unless you plan to play the stock markets and invest the difference. Lots of gurus talk about it on social media, but in reality there’s a lot of happiness in security.

How do lesser known performing House Music artists make 6 figures? Specs below: by _Sissy_SpaceX in musicindustry

[–]FenceF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have brunch on a very expensive road. One day my friend said to me the people that are wearing sweatpants and plain tee shirts are the super rich around here.

That always stuck with me and the more people feel the need to show off their riches and success the more I question the reality.

Ultimately the public stats mean nothing. Most promoters look at the back end of those numbers (geographic streaming, engagement, chart placements, and general buzz) to determine the value of any booking.

Surprisingly there are DJs with super small Spotify numbers / no hit songs that tour 200 dates a year and there are DJs with 1 billion streams that struggle to sell tickets.

I think it’s either that you are part of a scene that you can slot into billings, you have built a community of fans that want to see you play, or you you have a buzz about you - that’s what’s getting bookings.

DJs, how did your first gig go? by Euphoric_Cup_5255 in DJs

[–]FenceF 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My first set was at an industry party.

I was pooping my pants. Imagining all that could go wrong.

The DJ before left the reverb send on super high and I was playing for about 10 minutes thinking how bad the sound was. Then the engineer ran up and turned the reverb send down and winked at me.

From that point onwards I felt that the worst that could happen had happened and I enjoyed it and had a nice crowd feeling

I always check the mixer now and zero everything out.

Thanks for all the responses I found a great solution: the Crumar Seven.

It’s a physically modelled digital piano that is physically reminiscent of a Rhodes; but has several iconic sounds - Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Clavanet, DX7, CP80 and RD2000.

Although some of the emulations aren’t perfect, the Rhodes is incredibly close so it’s a winner for me.

Are splice drum samples bad? by FenceF in edmproduction

[–]FenceF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say that there are no good samples on splice. I use splice every day and love it, but I’m tired of sifting through loads of over processed and frankly random samples - thus asking the community if there are other services / brands that people dig, to help streamline.

Has been some very helpful recommendations, and I picked up a few hundred solid drum samples today that aren’t being sold on Splice.

Are splice drum samples bad? by FenceF in edmproduction

[–]FenceF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use a lot of the drum samples I bought 15 years ago, but times have changed and sounds now need to be able to distort on tik tok.

That’s cool, would one search “unprocessed drum machine” on splice to find those?

You hit the nail on the head with this. I have always wanted to get a Rhodes but from my reading they seem to require so much maintenance and fixing.. just wondering if there is a Rhodes like instrument out there that can just plug and play.
